The idea of using a felt strip isn't new. It is actually one of the oldest (and yet most effective) methods of muffling a bass drum. Yet many of todays players do not use it. If you are looking for a round, musical and powerful BOOM, the Slug MFT-29 is THE product to use. Put this high quality, durable strip just off center and it will flex and breath with each stroke yet will quickly rebound to eliminate the unwanted ring while producing a full and focused tone. Does John Bonham ring a bell? He used the old felt strips on both the front and batter head. I use a Powerstroke 4 batter and a medium weight solid front head. I use the Slug MFT-29 on the front head and leave the drum wide open. It allows amazing projection and power yet is full in tone and control. It also allows me to play with a very wide range of dynamics. Pillows, pads, and open front heads limit dynamics and will usually produce only one sound when played. The Slug Strip is a heavier weight and is more durable and won't stretch out of shape like the old strips that we used to use. So, if you love your drums open and full but controled and powerful, this the is product to use. Not too many products cost this little yet make such a huge improvement to your sound!
