The Virtual Mix Rack (VMR) is a one mix plug-in solution that gives you a rack of virtual effects in a single instance. With VMR you can customize your own dream channel for any source in your mix. Based on the widely popular 500-series hardware design, VMR is filled with authentic recreations of popular analog gear. VMR comes bundled with two EQs, the FG-N that is a recreation of the classic British discrete EQ with a doubled mid band, and the FG-S, which is a digital recreation of the workhorse British console EQs of the 80's. There are also two unique compressors including the FG-116 that is a stat-of-the-art VCA compressor with extreme flexibility and modern tone, and the FG-401 which takes it's design from a classic American FET compressor/limiter. The VMR starts with four slots, but a total of eight slots can be used. Just drag and drop additional modules into the VMR, or swap the order of the modules for a completely customized rack. There's 4 modules included, but future modules will be available for purchase.
FG-N 'Brit-N' EQ
The FG-N is a digital recreation of one of the most classic discrete Class A British equalizers from the 70's. All aspects of the circuit are modeled, including the rich harmonics and saturations that naturally occur when the equalizer is in use. The original model only contained one mid band, so Slate Digital decided to double it so that it has two instead. This equalizer is lush, fat, and bold. It sounds great on everything from drums to vocals, and can even add the perfect saturation to synth and electronic tracks.
FG-S 'Brit 4k' EQ
The FG-N is a digital recreation of one of the most classic discrete Class A British equalizers from the 80's. This equalizer also has rich harmonics and interactive mid bands with a fat musical tone. The FG-S is the ultimate workhorse mix EQ that can be used on any track. It is great for surgical cutting, or wide bell and shelf strokes for making drums and guitars pop out of your mix.
FG-116 'Modern Compressor'
The FG-116 is a model of several VCA-based compression circuits giving it a modern, punchy, and clean tone that is suitable on vocals, drums, guitars, bass, pianos and synths. It can sound subtle on low ratio and slower settings, or aggressive and pumpy on faster settings. Ultimately, the FG-116 is an extremely versatile channel compressor that will enhance your tracks with added character and analog depth.
FG-401 'Vintage Compressor'
The FG-401 begins with a model of the classic FET-based American limiter, and then adds a few Slate/Gabriel twists. The output transformer has been modified to model characteristics of the classic St. Ives transformer used in classic British processors. This type of modification is similar to the Slate Pro Audio DRAGON hardware compressor. This compressor is colorful, warm, deep, and adds an amazing sheen. It is the ultimate vocal compressor, but sounds amazing on bass, guitars, and drum mics.
