I recently received this set as a gift. After being told by many that electronic drums "suck", these are the exact opposite. The produced sound is incredibly realistic. They bounce the stick back nicely, and my pads show no signs of wear after 9 months of hard playing. The snare can handle a nice hard roll, the hat control is very effective and realistic. The only flaw, as with all electronic drums, are the cymbals. The cymbals have dynamic sound(depending on how hard you hit them) but they can't be muted and they stop to early. These pads absorb the noise so they make a really quiet click(less than that of a guitar hero drum set) which means i can play at night. This set is good for apartments because you wont be annoying your fellow residents. The brain on this set is amazing! there are so many features it is crazy. Playing them in the store is not even comparable to having a set at your house that you can mess with all of the features. my opinion? These pads rock. i would give them a six out of five if they would let me.

Started off as a nice affordable kit for my son to begin to learn with, however, one of the pads had to be replaced within a year where it had begun to fall apart with only light use. 2 months outside of the warranty 2 other pads failed - Simmons customer service admitted there was a fault with the pads and they were eligible to be replaced for free - 9 months on and several e-mails later (most of them ignored) we're still yet to see the replacements and have long since given up on Simmons customer service actually living up to their agreement to replace them. Bought a Roland kit instead which is infinitely better quality; played far harder and not a speck of damage. I would personally never buy a product from Simmons again since their products are clearly defective and their customer service is so poor.

Great set even after a year

By Taylor

Comments about Simmons SD7PK Electronic Drum Set:

I got this set for xmas 2009 and it's held up fantastic. Just up until about an hour ago, my kick drum pad stopped working...but it may be because i play the **** out of it with a double-pedal. Other than that everything still works just as well as it did 1 year ago. The pads have stayed in great condition with no ripping or fraying and the cymbal pads have stayed intact and havn't cracked or come apart. Hope this helps!

Happier now that I swapped a DTXplorer for a SD7PK

By Dave

from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about Simmons SD7PK Electronic Drum Set:

If you are on the fence between a Yamaha DTXplorer and the SD7PK get this one. I initially ordered the Yamaha because it appeared to have better reviews. I traded it for the Simmons. Comparison: Yamaha - High hat pedal sucks Simmons - High hat pedal is very responsive Yamaha - Single zone snare (no rim shots) Simmons - Dual zone snare (can play rim shots) Yamaha - Maps MIDI on kick and snare to weird non-standard notes which makes it useless as a MIDI controller Simmons - Not only maps to the correct notes, but has a USB out so you don't even need a MIDI adaptor. Plug and play. And overall Simmons feels a lot sturdier and better. I just wish I would have bought it first when there was a $100 off holiday sale instead of the Yamaha.

A great value!

By Dana Pagliarulo

Comments about Simmons SD7PK Electronic Drum Set:

Let me start by saying that I am very pleased with this set. For the money, you really can't go wrong. I bought this for my kids for Christmas last year, and they have been playing them all year. Although I would be remiss if I didn't share with you my experiences. First of all, on Christmas day, we put the kit together and we found out that the drum head was fail. Within a week or so I had a replacement. Then within that first month, the snare went out on me. Again, took about a week to replace. Both were covered under warranty and I have yet to have any more problems with the pads. Some things to note. *The snare is the only pad that has a rimshot and the primary sound. *The ride cymbal has 2 sounds depending on how hard you hit it. *The crash has only 1 sound. *The module has a great wide selection of quality sounds. *You can pump your MP3 player into it and play along with it with headphones on - This is like playing rock band for real almost. *The set is pretty solid. I rarely have to reposition any of the heads or cymbals. *The pads feel great and have great sensitivity. Especially for beginning drummers and those who live with other people, this set is a great buy.

Simmons SD7PK Is A Great Kit.

By Sam

from cincinnati ohio

Comments about Simmons SD7PK Electronic Drum Set:

So i got this for christmas 2010, and i love it. it has nice pads that wont go out on you, the pads can really take a good drum roll, and over all just a great kit and it doesn't take up much space. Now if you live in a small house with a few people in it like i do, you'll probably be worried about the tapping noises that come from the pads, but living in a house with as much people as i do, No one can even tell im playing them. They have a highly realistic sound, over 50 kits, you can do rim shots on the snare, you can make your own custom kit with thousands of sound, how ever there is no cymbal choke but at this price, its just great. 11 Out of 10 Stars. I Reccomend Vic Firth Isolation Headphones To Go With These for The Most Realistic Sound.

Simmons SD7PK Drum Kit

By Will Courson

from Pittsburgh, Pa

Comments about Simmons SD7PK Electronic Drum Set:

I bought this kit because I am in college and live in an apartment. I just needed something to to beat around on that wasn't too loud. For the price, this kit is great. Like I said, for the price, it's not a high end Roland or anything, but it has really good response and a nice sized kick pad. The only reason I got this one over the SD5Pk is that it has a dual zone snare. The dual zone snare is pretty cool because you can add all kinds of sounds to the rim for when you do rim shots and such. The toms are not too bad either, I like the feel of them, a soft, yet responsive rubber with pretty good reaction. Now the cymbals, there sufficient. They are good for hitting, but not good for swells. They are velocity set, that means that you get the same sound when you hit them hard or soft, the loudness is just changed. Thats the same for everything else, but its not bad for the toms and kick. As far as the module, its pretty cool, there are like 300 sounds, a metronome, play along songs and so on. The only down side to the kit in my opinion is the hi-hat control pedal. I say this because I like to play on the ride while playing the hi-hat with my foot and you can't really do that with this pedal. Well you can, but it's not responsive. The last thing is the ambient noise of the pads and cymbals. The ambient noise isn't too loud, but there it defiantly enough noise to annoy a roommate (Haha). All in all, this is a good set for a beginner or for anyone who wants an inexpensive electric kit for the house. You could use it for small gigs or something like that, it would get the job done. Like I said earlier, it's not a Roland or anything, but for the price I would recommend it for sure.

Awesome Set!

By David

Comments about Simmons SD7PK Electronic Drum Set:

I wasn't sure about this set at first. I bought it based on the reviews that I read and I have to say I am far from disappointed. This set is so easy to set up and move around. I have beat on it pretty hard and it holds up great. Well worth the money.

Mest up servise

By Nator

from plano, tx

Comments about Simmons SD7PK Electronic Drum Set:

i got Simmon from guitar center in Plano. i heard that the set is good for the price but the costumer service was awful. first it took 2 and half straight hours to finally get out of the store with it. second, it had no box, no base, there was one leg missing, no free chair that they were suppose to give, and in top of all that the set adapter was missing. they told me they had one in stuck and after getting the money and tax and many other things they started to take one off the wall and gave it to me, i mean come on what is wrong with them. i returned it right a way and i'll never purchasing anything from there any more. so if you are reading this, please be careful of what you are buying and the price you are paying, or you will get very very disappointed.
