Comments about Simmons SD500 5-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

Disclaimer: I am not an experienced drummer.

I saw this product at a local guitarcenter store the day after thanks giving day and bought it with $100 discount. The only regret is that if this sounds this great at this price level what if I had bought the one from Simmons with more functionalities (would it have been more fun?)?

It seems that the only thing that I notice is missing is that the right cymbal (the one on the right side) produces only one type of sound, while it could potentially have two, a clash sound that you would get by hitting the side of the symbol and a crisp/choppy sound that would come from the center of the cymbal of the sound (Again I am not an experienced drummer). Other than that, this drumset has the following rich sound options per each drum:

    a) The snare drum: the regular snare sound and the rim shot
    b) The hi-hat: open and closed (as expected)
    c) The crash cymbal: the regular sound and the mute (by touching the rim of the cymbal, you can shorten the sound duration).
As noted other reviewers, this drumset is very sensitive to the strength of strokes, which makes the drum sound very real and authentic.

Comments about Simmons SD500 5-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

The product is good and i like how it's sensitive towards how hard/soft you hit.
I was a little disappointed though that i got what looks to be a return. Not sure if that was why it was $200 off from the original price but when i opened it, all the items were already out of their boxes and plastic bags. Seems like someone already used it. There weren't instructions to put it together, so i went off of looking at the box, but i figured it out. Product still works fine, but again, i'm just disappointed in the service.

I bought this set for my granddaughter - a set she can learn on without the noise so her mom won't kill me-it's well made and easy to set up- should last her awhile

Comments about Simmons SD500 5-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

I purchased this kit for use in a home studio and use it along with virtual drum software. The drums are responsive and produce a great variety of voices, although I recommend upgrading the bass drum pedal to an actual pad and pedal system (the bass drum pedal is not very responsive for quick hits). This kit is almost perfect for a professional studio setting, but certainly meets all of my needs in the Home studio setting.

The Rack is a bit cheap, specifically the joints. I've already stripped two of the plastic keys while tightening them. They are tight, but I'll have to loosen those joints with pliers if I every want to transport it. Having said that, NOT recommended for touring or constant tear down and set up.

Comments about Simmons SD500 5-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

Spectacular kit for the money. Lots of value. The fit finish is perfectly fine for anything outside of strictly professional use and abuse. It's sturdy, I have younger kids that have beat on it, the module works well with plenty of tweaking ability. Love this set over traditional acoustic set for practicing as well....late night, kids nap/bedtime, no worries hook up headphones and go to town. Also great to learn on. Again, hook up a laptop, tab, whatever and do some online lessons and practice without disturbing everyone else in the house. I have no complaints about this set given its price point and market. Would recommend to others with similar use case. Including cable management, Velcro etc is also a nice touch to keep things clean and in place.

                Good Set For The Price

Comments about Simmons SD500 5-Piece Electronic Drum Set:

I bought this set a few months ago, and have held off on a review until I got to see how they performed. Over all, I'm pretty happy with the set. The 500 sound module puts out a good quality sound, better than comparably priced acoustic drums (already had a set of them) by a good bit. I'm not a drummer, but play several instruments well enough to get by recording on my own. The built in drum 'kits' had more 'electronic' sounding drums than I wanted, but I found three kits I liked that had the old drum sound, without sounding out of tune or post strike ringing (from tom tom to tom tom). And you can build your own 'kit' based on the 'voices' or sounds each drum and cymbal have available to them. One down side to the sound module was when striking the high hat, if I hit the snare at just the right time, the end of the high hat sound was clipped off. This would not have stopped me from buying it though as it would have not been noticeable with other instruments in the mix. I upgraded the sound module to the 1000 model. The clipping stopped, and the sound quality was better than before. There are many kits built in, and about 50 'user' kits where you can customize your own sound. When fed into my recorder, I get a good sounding quality drum track. The 1000 also has a 4th tom tom and a third symbol, so if I want to expand my drum set, the brain already has it built in. For the money I invested, I've got lots of different sounding drums for the price of one acoustic set....hard not to like that.
