Overview

The Simmons DA200S houses a 100-watt low-frequency amp with two 50-watt mid- and high-frequency amps. The low-frequency amp powers a heavy-duty 12" down-firing sub-woofer speaker and a specially designed slot port for bottom-end projection. Left and right mid- and high-frequency amps drive 2-6-1/2" mid-range speakers and 2-1/2" high-frequency tweeters.

The DA200S maintains the integrity of the stereo drum signal from input to speakers (including line outs and extension speaker jacks). This provides a broad stereo field that positions your drums at their correct sonic locations, providing a realistic audio experience for you and your audience, whether you're in the studio or playing live.

I bought this amp to go with my Roland TD-3KW, and it is an extremely good product. This speaker is significantly louder than the smaller 50 watt version, and it also contains a 12" subwoofer, which makes the amp sound far superior even at low volumes. It is also quite a bit larger than the 50 watt so do not be fooled by the pictures. Very good product.

Hi!! I bought this drum amp (Simmons DA200S) brand new from G.C. a few months ago. My set is an Alesis DM10x. I never crank the volume up very loud and never have. At times when I hit the bass drum, I get a popping sound from the speaker. What the heck?!!? I never have changed my bass drum setting on the drum module, so I am not sure why I am getting this popping noise. Besides the popping, the amp does sound pretty good. I was hoping it would produce an even lower sound because I would like to "feel" the kick more. Today I added a 12" non-powered speaker to it hoping that I could get more of a kick.....so that I could hopefully "feel" it. Nope, didn't do the trick. This amp gets a 3 from me due to the popping sound, and the low end just doesn't quite cut it for me. Don't get me wrong, it is a good amp...the sounds are great....but if it could go even lower then it does, that would be awesome. Maybe a 15 inch subwoofer would do the trick. Oh well.... Time to call G.C. to see what I can do in regards to get the popping fixed. Thanks for reading this! -M

Comments about Simmons DA200S Electronic Drum Set Monitor:

Bought the Simmons 200S in April with a Roland electronic drum set for my wife. We are novice drum players and I have a much deeper respect for all you experienced drummers out there. As a so-so guitarist I had respect already. Here we are in November and the amp died. I'm betting the power supply gave it up.
Hey stuff happens and Simmons and Guitar Center were great. Since it was in year of purchase, Guitar Center took care of this by providing me with a new amp. Painless and very courteous as always.

As for the amp, I am not an expert, but it sounds great. We plug our music directly in to it and it puts out great drum sounds. While my wife and I are both drum hacks we really have a great time using the DA200S. Easy to use. Sounds great and they stand behind their product. What else can you ask for?

Comments about Simmons DA200S Electronic Drum Set Monitor:

To date, we've only been using this amp for practice. We were using a small PA speaker. But switching to this amp, the lows and highs are much more pronounced and the overall sound is much richer. The quality of various drum sounds is greatly improved, over the PA speaker, to sound more like what it's supposed to. We sometimes plug a bass or guitar into the amp for practice sessions. Works ok for clean guitar sounds - would not recommend as a bass or guitar amp. But what it's built for it does well. Should work in small venues. Not sure if it would be loud enough for large venues but you can plug into a PA, so that seems like a no-brainer.

Comments about Simmons DA200S Electronic Drum Set Monitor:

I purchased the DA200S for the purpose of amplifying the samples and drum sounds from my Roland SPD-SX when we play at venues with sub-par or no PA systems (we play a lot of house/warehouse/basement shows in Chicago).

At first, I was very impressed with the Simmons-- the sound quality was amazing; however, I was a bit concerned with its small size (also, it is surprisingly heavy for it's size, and with only a handle on top it can be a bit awkward to lug around). It reproduced our sounds, samples and sequences with clarity I had not heard before-- we even ran our Prophet 6 synth through it, and it sounded incredible. However, my fears about its small size were realized almost immediately at our first show with it... It was just barely loud enough, struggling to cut over our 5x10 bass cab and other instruments. After two shows with the input and output cranked, the right channel failed.

I would say this is a fantastic amp for practice, and for small (club/living room/basement) venues if you are not a loud band. Do not write it off as a keyboard amp-- I thought it sounded better with a synth running through it than anything else. I think its separate internal amplifiers for the different frequency ranges does an impressive job at keeping the sound from getting muddy, even with a lot of sounds being pushed through it. But again, at 200 combined Watts, it's pretty loud, but not loud enough.

Another con: the inputs are limited. You get one drum input that is split into left and right channel (left for mono) and a stereo AUX input. Unfortunately, the AUX input is a stereo-only jack, so if you want to run a mono signal into the aux, you need to use a mono-stereo adapter, or you'll only get sound out of one channel... I don't know why they didn't just do R/L input like they used on the drum input.

I'm giving it a four star review because it did sound great-- It just wasn't the right amp for us.

Comments about Simmons DA200S Electronic Drum Set Monitor:

This drum monitor is very versatile. I can use it at lower volume practicing or turned up on stage. The overall sound is very balanced after spending some time working the EQ, sub levels, etc... I am also utilizing the balanced outputs to feed a PA system. This is a very nice option since the output has a separate volume control. I compared similar Roland systems at $500+ and highly recommend the Simmons to any electronic drummers.

My husband has an electronic Drum Set that I got him around Christmas time and he needed an amp to go with it so that I could still hear him play on the Drums. He has played only on Acoustic Drums all his life. I like that the Drum set is smaller and has more that he can do with it without having to buy so many cymbals to have different sounds.
