Disappointed

By darel madrid

from NM

Comments about Simmons SD9K Kick Pad:

This is the 2nd kick pad and I don't expect it to last 12 months. The first one only lasted a year. Took the old one apart and saw how cheaply made it is. I only use it for studio work and practice as I don't trust it for live use. Totally disappointed. When you call or write Simmons, they just blow you off. The don't care. They already have your money. The service AFTER the sale totally sucks. I gave it 2 stars only because when it does work, it works good, BUT.....

Basic Kick Drum Trigger

By Eric Schmidlin

from Freehold, NJ

Comments about Simmons SD9K Kick Pad:

This is the second SD9K trigger I have owned. It does what it is supposed to do and the frame is well made. However, I have found that Simmons uses a fairly cheap piezo pickup for this model and it does not last long. The last one I had died within a year. It is a basic trigger and in my opinion, should not be used on a stage. If you do, you should have a back-up trigger with you. I use mine as a part of my practice set, so I don't have any fears about having it die in the middle of a performance. I have used it with an Alesis, Simmons, Roland and Yamaha control module with no problems. Be cautious about this trigger if you are using a double bass pedal! It doesn't always pick up the multiple strikes, especially if you are doing quick rolls. I guess it is worth the $39, but should this one die, I will be switching to a Roland or Alesis trigger.
