  • I Love This Thing

As reviewed by DAVID CHAPMAN on 1/22/2014

I'm not a drummer by any means but I love to let the agression out and have some fun. I've owned sets in the past but I really dig this one to mess around with. As others said, the volume out is very light, but I use headphones so it's no big deal. Just crank up the volume. Overall, for the price, I love it. I would love a set of Roland V Drums but just can't justify that expense. At $179 shipped this was a no brainer. If you want a cool little practice kit that has a tiny footprint, pick this sucker up. You can't beat it. Thanx David

  • Simmons SD Xpress

As reviewed by Tom Vahle on 1/12/2013

First of all, I had to order 2 of these sets, and exchange the 1st one because the High hat pedal/double bass pedal, would constantly stop triggering the 1st day i got it. What I liked about this set.: 1. It had a wider variety of sounds than i expected the set to have, was impressed. 2. Very easy to set up. Cables were even noted to what cymbals they ran to. 3. The USB port on the set is extremely useful for expanding your play. 4. The tempo feature is nice, easy, and comfortable to use. 5. All the toms, cymbals, snare and bass drum, is all customizable, including sound and very easy to do so. 6. Has a recording feature 7. Price, It's what sold me, and really good practice tool for any drumming. What I didn't like about the kit.: 1. The User channel is completely customizable to anything you want which is great, but there's only one channel. You play more than one song with more than 1 type of drums, you can forget it. Or write them down. 2. The preset songs are okay, definitely nothing to get excited over. I wouldn't pay extra money for it. 3. The design of the toms are very awkward, they are facing up and a lot smaller than I intended. 4. The second bass drum/HH pedal, isn't as smooth and quiet as the primary bass pedal. 5. The ride cymbal hangs just over the 2nd tom. The closeness of the two is quite frustrating. 6. Using Double bass, it would frequently stop the cymbals from triggering if played at the same time. 7. One of the toms will rarely and randomly trigger the ride cymbal, not a problem until you start recording. 8. The toms will sometimes trigger other toms, For example, i tried changing the sound of the 1st tom and it kept triggering the 2nd and 3rd tom. ect. 9. The dynamics of the whole kit aren't always even, for example, it would have a loud sound followed after a quiet sound. 10. The snare doesn't always have an even tone. Snare is really quiet, or too loud. Must have excessive pressure to get the sound you want. Overall, It's a pretty decent drum set. But definitely for beginners. Has it's minor flaws, but it does its job.

  • Do not buy it

As reviewed by Claudio de Carvalho Aguiar on 11/23/2012

Before you buy, note the following 1. It does not have a line out, only phone output. The phone output signal is very weak (low volume) even at maximum volume. I tried different headphones. It does not deliver enough output signal power to be connected to the input of an amplifier. Therefore you must keep your drum music to yourself... think about it. 2. You only get the full response out of each pad if you hit the pad exactly in the center. This is worse at the snare drums. 3. The ride cymbal does not sound when played together with the kick drum. This happens when you hit both at the exact same time. 4. It is difficult to get full response from the hi-hat closed and ride cymbal, even after adjusting the individual pad volume to max (12.7). Crash and hi-hat open are ok. You need to hit an exact region of the cymbals in order to get a good sound out of it. It really sucks! 5. I have not yet tried the MIDI USB interface.I will update the review as soon as I have it tested. 6. Please note the pads are rubber and they get outworn if you hit them strong (which you will naturally do due to the lack of response from the pads).
