  • Good Metronome, a little pricey

As reviewed by Doug on 5/9/2011

I bought this metronome for a practice tool and also to use during live performances to keep myself in time with sequenced loops. It handles both of these jobs perfectly. The reason I picked the Simmons over the Tama was the addition of the 1/4" LINE OUT jack on the Simmons. The Tama has only a headphone out. The beats are very easily adjusted and there is plenty of variety for any drummer to practice with. This metronome is also very loud. I'm sure you could use it with acoustic drums but I would probably opt to use and ear bud with the headphone jack so you can hear it better. You also have the option of waching an LED light on each side of the screen that go back and forth with the beat. There is also a nice blue backlight for the large, easy to read, display. The reason I gave this three stars is the lack of an AC adapter. For the price, one should be included. I happened to have and old Boss adapter that was the right voltage (9V) and plug so I was in luck. It would also be nice if you could switch the sounds between say a cowbell and a clave versus just the click sounds and the included voice timbre. There is also a mount on the top part of the unit that looks to be for a cymbal holder or some type of threaded mount. I've yet to find something that will fit it and there is no information in the instructions or on the Simmons website about it. Overall it a good unit but it could be a lot better.
