easy setup
Just purchase 12/07, and was extremely easy to setup as the cage was already assembled and wires are pre-labled. Awesome feel and set can take a beating. Pads are very responsive with no lag. Have double bass setup and works flawlessly.Just got to fight the kids for seat time

A must have!
The sd9k is eveything it says it is. This has opened up a new passion for my drumming. Easy set up, I spend hours playing along so much to do!, sound is fantastic, I will be buying the amp soon.I focus on playing rather than thinking are my drum heads in tune! I have a new respect for electronic drums, and look forward to buying SIMMONS products in 2009!!

Need to re-think some hardware
Okay here it goes. I got this set so I didn’t have to keep taking down my acoustic down, putting it in cases, hauling to practice or gig and then set it back up at home to practice or work on drum parts…blah, blah, blah. Here are my pros and cons:
Pros: Love that it comes with 4 toms, the cymbals are all dual zone with choke, great number of sounds and you can build a huge number of personalized sets. All pads are tunable and you can EQ the entire set or each pad. 2 AUX so you can expand the set. I have added one more tom to match my acoustic set which is great. The wheel on the brain makes scrolling through the 700+ sound quick and easy and with some EQing, the set sound really good recorded. You can play along to music via the AUX in jack from either a computer or MP3 player. Very easy to record with and lay into a multi track editor for adding drum tracks to your bands guitar and vocal tracks. Easily transportable and set up is about 5 to minutes. Great for practicing with the band if we have to watch our volume.
Cons: The hardware is anything but. Very poorly made. The tension rods that tighten to secure the drum pads to the “L” rods break way too easily. 2 have broken already and since they are part of the pad itself, you can’t fix it or get a new tension rod so now the drums just rest on the “L” rod. While the cymbals have nice dual zone and choke features, I have had 3 break and I have had to replace them. The plastic under the rubber cracked causing the cymbal to miss-trigger. I don’t feel that I was hitting them too hard but I’ll be looking for more sturdy cymbals in the future. The crash cymbal arms don’t tighten all the way or at least mine don’t. And I must echo what others have said about the kick pad. WAY too loud. Sounds like a block of wood and the problem is if you are going to play with an amp. You have to turn up the volume very loud if you don’t want to hear the sound of kick pedal on wood.
There you have it. I hope it helps.

Best value in electronic drums
Pro's:
Can customize the sound of every pad
All cymbals are dual zone giving you 6 cymbal sounds from 3 pads!
Snare is dual zone
Stick rebound from pads is very quick
Always in tune
Can create numerous custom kits from a huge library of pre-programmed voices
Withstands my death metal blast beats!
And my favorite feature - connect your mp3 player and play along with your favorite tunes - you can even control the mp3 player/drums volumes independently for the perfect mix
Con's:
Rack is a bit flimsy - entire kit vibrates when I'm blasting
Hardware tends to loosen up on it's own - gotta give some toms a daily tweak
And the sole reason I can not give this kit 5 stars - the kick pad!!! OMG! That thing is loud! Even using felt beaters, the sound of the beater striking that pad is insane. Seriously, Simmons, fix it.

This kit is worth EVERY cent!
I used to own an old-school Roland DDR-30 kit with the triangular pads which required an Alesis micro-cue amp to play through headphones. Simmons has come a LONG way since then and the SD9K satisfies every requirement you may be seeking in electronic percussion. Easy set-up, programming my own kits pad-by-pad, stick responsiveness, and durability were features I was looking for. You will get all that and more. Recording, sequencing, metronome, choke on cymbals, and bass pad takes a double-pedal. You can also adjust the pads to avoid "cross-talk"..AWESOME kit Simmons!

NEW REVIEW - Great Set Great Value
I Bought my SD9K set and the DA200S Amp. 12/29/08. I play them two or more times a week and really enjoy the different things you can do with them.I have played Yamaha and Roland sets that cost two or three times more and I am very impressed with the Simmons. Yes, there are better sets out there but after two months of looking I bought the Simmons because of the value for your buck. There are only two things I would change, 1) I can not seem to get the cymbal sounds I really like but that may just be me. 2) The pads have a very small sweet spot that is hard to hit without hitting your sticks together. Overall I would recommend them for sure.

HIP HOP HAPPENIN & FUNKY FRESH
i got this today 10-12-09... been playin on it at GC for 8 months... very nice voicings, very nice and sturdy.. the stand is a HINT cheesy but not bad at all.. i am using this for recording at it rocks.. when recording i record the entire set FULLY, EVERYTHING AT ONE TIME.. then i unplug the cymbals ( so while recording the 2nd take i am playing naturally) and re-record the hi-hat, snare, bass, toms.. that way i have it 2 times and re-eq them for the second take and be able to blend them together in my software... makes for very prominent recordings... i bought a floor model to save money..it took 1 minute to fold it up (didnt remove anything) and set it in the back of the truck and drive off.. got home it took 5 MINUTES to unfold it, put the bass pedals on, plug it in and JAM
AWESOME SET...... WORTH EVERY PENNY

This is fantastic
One word, Brilliant. You cn do so much with this set. Make a high def drum cover with a built in mixer that has reeverb and EQ. Play Rockband with its MIDI out sytem (GH:WT kit required) and even play for audiences with a good enough amp. Although it doesn't come with a bass pedal you should get a double for any style. Bottom line, this thing is perfect for any style of music for a percussuionist on a budget
