Purchased 2 of these Cymbals to add to my existing TD-8/TMC-6 setup. Playing side by side with the Roland CY-8's in my kit I have observed the following. They have a more audible "thunk" than the roland cymbals. The rubber surface is slightly more ruff and grips the tip of my sticks more than the CY-8. The pads are less sensitive than the CY-8s and seem to have a narrower dynamic range, but not enough to make a big deal. Triggering has been flawless with both edge/bow triggering and choking. After extensive testing in multiple positions I have placed both cymbals I purchased as crash cymbals in my setup. Although passable I didn't like the feel as a ride or hi hat. I am rating 4 stars instead of 3 due to the value for the money. For roughly half the price of the CY-8 I was able to get similar functionality in a cymbal that is very adequate for a crash/splash/china role.
I purchased two of these Simmons pads, and one of them is noticeably more responsive than the other. I've tried swapping cables, inputs, etc... Don't know what it is. One works perfectly up to par with my Roland brand cymbal, the other works about 30% of the time :(
