  • Mediocre at best.

As reviewed by Jon Butler on 8/24/2010

I have had the SDMP-1 for a couple of months now, all in all, its a mediocre pad. If i had the chance to get a different one, i would. It has plenty of sounds, but the quality is a bit lower than i expected. There seems to be a real issue, with mine at least, about it registering which pads are being struck. For example, when i strike the number 1 pad repeatedly, it will sometimes register that number 2 or 6 is being struck, on rare occasions it could be any of the numbers, even on the opposite side of the board. The biggest issue is what has already been stated: there's no owners manual. The quick start guide that is provided doesn't do much good overall, there's a lot that it doesn't account for. It says to download full manual from their website, but it doesn't exist. I have sent a few emails to Simmons about this, all to no avail, I have yet to receive any kind of response. I wouldn't recommend this to people though.

  • Great for the price

As reviewed by jason karrer on 7/19/2011

I bought the simmons SDMP1 as a supplement to My Roland TD4 drumset, because it didn't have enough pads and I wanted more pads for playing some percussion sounds. I compared Rpoland, Simmonds and Alesis with all of the appropriate models and decide to give the SDMP1 system a try. I have had the system for a few eeks now and have found the system to have great sounds in both the percussion and drum kit areas. Now, if you're looking for rains stick and chimes type of sounds, you will be disappointed and will ahve to buy the real chimes or rainstick if that is what you're looking for. The drums set sounds to me are better samples than that of the Roland and the cabassa, tambourine, shaker, rim shots, wood blocks, cymbals, timbales, bongos and bongos all sound excellent. The response from the pads feel good except for the two on top that are not rubberized and feel & sound like you're hitting hard plastic...well, you are! I would recommend getting the optional mounting bracket/adaptor and m,ulticlamp and mount it to a cymbal stand as that works better than anything else. Learning how to program the pads with the over 700 sounds is pretty easy, as I had it programmed in about 5 minutes. You will ant to get a case for it as well. May I recommend the Gator 20 x 20 padded music gear bag. This bag seems to fit it well.

  • Don't get this machine!!!

As reviewed by Rolando on 11/24/2009

Bought it today with a Roland Kick trigger pad. Trigger pad does not work on the assigned 1/4 inch input. There are very basic instructions in the box which offer no help. They advise to go to their website to download a detailed pdf file. When you go their website they don't even show this model!!! Waste of time and frustrating!! I'm returning back to GC.
