They can even take musical ideas they've written down and have them scanned into Sibelius to worked on. This is a win-win music software combination at a great savings for educators.
Sibelius 6 Education Edition
Inspire creativity, boost results, and make music more accessible with the Educational Edition of Sibelius 6. Previous versions of this popular notation software is used in classrooms around the world every day to enhance music education and help students achieve great results. Sibelius 6 makes it even easier to use, and at this great price, there's no better time to add it to your curriculum.
Faster, neater, scores for students
Sibelius 6 features Magnetic Layout which positions almost every aspect of students' scores in just the right placeâdynamics, lyrics, chord symbols, and more. Students can produce smarter scores more quickly for coursework and examinations. Magnetic Layout also helps teachers prepare scores for class and school performances in up to half the usual time.
Easy classroom control
The network version of Sibelius 6 helps teachers manage a lab of Sibelius copies from a single computer, and ensure students are doing what they're meant to be doing. A classroom control panel lets teachers instantly:
â¢Send a starting worksheet or score to every classroom computer
â¢Freeze computers to get students' attention
â¢Send messages to all students (for example, "Only five more minutes.")
â¢Gather all students' work into a single folder at the end of a classâready to run through on the interactive whiteboard.
Reports on student progress
The Versions feature enables teachers to see and report on what changes have been made to a student's score over time. Students can also add their own commentary with each set of changes, and Sibelius 6 collates these together with a record of progress to generate a student's creative diary.
Exchange comments with students
Teacher and students can now add virtual sticky notes to their scoresâto pass on thoughts and suggestions efficiently, and in just the right places on a score.
Keyboard & Fretboard windows
Sibelius 6 has added these two beautiful windows which are ideal for students who prefer using a keyboard or guitar to notation. Students simply click on the keys or frets to input notes and chordsâor play their computer's QWERTY keys just like a piano. However, they're not just for inputting. Select any note/chord, and the keyboard or fretboard shows how it's played. When students play the score back, they can follow the music on the keyboard or fretboard tooâeven if it's written for other instruments.
Link with audio recording software
This version comes with ReWire support that lets you sync Sibelius playback with audio software that you may already have at your schoolâlike Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic, and GarageBand. Students can link together audio recording and score playback to add live audio to their pieces.
PhotoScore Ultimate 5 is a fast way to scan music for transpositions, arrangements, and editions. Its the full-featured version of the PhotoScore Lite scanning software for Sibelius. Plus it can scan music into other MIDI software such as sequencers. You can even use it on its own to scan in, play back, transpose and print scores, and even save audio files.
PhotoScore Ultimate reads printed and handwritten music in secondsânot just the notes, but also printed slurs, dynamics, lyrics, guitar tab, chord diagrams, and more. You can then edit or transpose the music, play it back, extract the parts and printâjust as if you had input it yourself.
It is currently optimized to allow composers to create scores by hand away from computers, say by a favorite instrument or lying in a field, and not have to do it all over again when you get back to the studio.

I've been an avid Finale user for years, but since I've been working with ProTools more recently, I felt I should probably give Sibelius a shot. Oh.my.gosh. I am glad I did. If you're coming from a Finale background, you've just got to understand that Sibelius has a different approach. If you try and use a Finale approach, you'll just get frustrated. But once you familiarize yourself with it, you'll love it. Things that would take 3 days of work in Finale can be instantly done with Sibelius - ie like reformatting a score. Whats even better is that it runs with ProTools, so you can sync everything together. In short, Sibelius is just a million times more user friendly and a complete time saver. Engraving scores are no longer a headache for me!
I really like this program. I had to compose a score for a quartetۡwhich I hadn't done for years, and the last time was by hand. Sibelius was east to pick up quickly and it's very intuitive. I even had to add a lot of dynamic spelling and special instructions that were easy to make.Charts and score were simply done and easy to export to PDF.
Sibelius is wonderful, beautiful notation software. I used to use Finale (for years), but once I got used to Sibelius (took only a couple of days of messing around), it felt much more intuitive and easy to use to me. I can't say, though, that this upgrade to Sibelius 6 was worthwhile. If you use 5, save your money. The new magnetic formatting stuff is great, but, the old formatting system wasn't that much worse. The string sounds are actually worse (and ring a little flat!), and other than that, there really isn't anything noticeable about the upgrade from Sibelius 5.
