I own two sets of studio headphones. These, and the AKG K240's. I love the AKG K240's, they're light, ultra comfortable, and sound incredible. However, the K240's are semi open, and very quiet without a headphone amp. The Shure SRH440's actually sound better than my AKG's! The sound is completely accurate, and great at reproducing every frequency of my mix. They are kind of heavy, but once on your head, they feel pretty good. However, they do get tiring after a few hours. The ear pieces flip, great for DJing. The closed design also completely blocks out 90% of sound! I highly recommend these for studio use!

There are a lot of nice features with these headphones. They fold up rather nicely for storage, the cord is replaceable, and the sound is amazing... however, their plastic construction left much to be desired. Under light use, these would probably be fine, but I was wearing this for 3-4 hours on a daily basis, and the plastic just did not hold up. One day while taking these off, a huge plastic chunk cracked off, which was a piece of the molding holding the hinge for the left ear-piece on. So, when taking these off, I ended up with the left ear-piece hanging on by just the wire. Again, great sound for the price, lots of nice features, but do not expect to have these for a good long while with cheap plastic molding.

State of the art sound

By Ken Brumfield

from Dearborn Heights MI

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

The shure SRH440's are a quality set of headphones that i use on a day to day basis, and can compete with the best.I have had a lot of headphones in my time, and have never found a pair like these. The sound quality is phenomenal, it is so crisp and clean, nothing gets in and nothing gets out while you are making music, mastering or mixing. I would recommend these headphones to anyone who wants a professional sound during a studio session or live session.

You get what you pay for

By Tyler

from Lehi, UT

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

I bought these headphones by way of recommendation from the Guitar Center employee who claimed that they were the only phones in stock that could be driven by an ipod without the need for a headphone amplifier. Frequency response was terrible. Mid-tones were reaky and thin. Low frequencies were not crisp and over accentuated. Also, these things were friggin' heavy. They don't stay on your head squarely if you move around and slide all over the place. In summary, I took them back and got the Beyerdynamic DT770 and couldn't be happier.

Great headphones!

By Shepdog

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

I got these last week, along with a Vox Headphone Amp and the two sound great together. These headphones are able to capture the low tones of my bass without distortion. I also tried them with my IPod and the music has never sounded better.

Awesome headphones but way too heavy.

By Lili

from Puerto Rico

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

I would have given these headphones 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that they give me a massive headache after 30 minutes. Other than that, highly highly recommended.

Good Sound Quality, Poor Design

By Andrew Ruggles

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

The sound quality on the SRH440 headphones is very good. Very balanced -- no boomy bass, but not lacking in bass. Clear mids and highs. The problem is the design. They really are too heavy to be worn for more than 3-4 hours a day. However, the fatal flaw of these are the material used to change the size. It creaks. Loud. Like, really loud over the music. Not that I'm a gum chewer, but if someone was, the movement of their jaw would make loud creaking noises in the earcups. It's really intolerable, and I'll be bringing these back to Guitar Center.

Awesome sound. Poor durability.

By John

from West Hartford, CT.

Comments about Shure SRH440 Studio Headphones:

For the price, the sound is Amazing! An incredible sound but...The plastic clip broke and Shure sent me a new one. The second new one broke in about three places about a year later so I had to duct tape it. I want to buy the 880 but I'm scared that for $200 it too will break rather quickly.
