Comments about Shure SM86 Cardioid Condenser Vocal Mic:

Purchased this mic as a birthday present for my son who is lead singer in a rock band. He's been singing for 13 years and sounds way better than he has on any prior mic. This mic really lets him be heard over the instruments. Based on my prior experiences with Shure mics (running sound for the 13 years my son's been singing), I expect this mic to last a long time.

Comments about Shure SM86 Cardioid Condenser Vocal Mic:

The Shure SM86 as a "GREAT" microphone. The texture and tone is captured in a very natural way. Compared to the Shure Beta 87a this mic is just as good at $70 less. If you want to cut through a mix with a big sound this microphone is for you. If I needed more I would defintely buy it again. Of course Shure is a solid company in the professional audio world.

      Great mic!

      By Mike Talbert

      from Hot Springs Arkansas

Comments about Shure SM86 Cardioid Condenser Vocal Mic:

I live in a noisy hood and have a home studio, this mic is the best I've ever had. It pics up what I play with a quality sound and minimal background noise. I bought one to sing through and it makes my acoustic guitar sound so good I bought another for that. I haven't dropped it so I can't say much about the toughness but Shure is such a great brand that I'm sure, that it is tough too!

If you don't have one, get one!

      By soundman

      from san jose, CA

Comments about Shure SM86 Cardioid Condenser Vocal Mic:

Any musician who lacks one of these is incomplete. This mic outright beats the SM58 and Beta58. It's only competitor could be the Beta87. The SM86 reproduces vocals with utmost precision and clarity. It has incredible gain before feedback, so turn up the volume and be heard! I have used it for 1 year and have not had a single problem with pops or anything.
