The Shure SM86 Cardioid Condenser Vocal Mic gives you all the advantages of Shure's SM line with condenser mic clarity. It's ruggedly built to handle touring, with a frequency response tailored for clear reproduction of vocals. The cardioid polar pattern minimizes background noise and feedback. The SM86 has a built-in 3-point shockmount for minimizing handling noise and a 2-stage filter for reducing breath noises and pops.
It requires phantom power.

I usally use the 58 series both wireless and regular. This mic has excellant pick up with no feeling of feedback. really nice for lead vocal
I live in a noisy hood and have a home studio, this mic is the best I've ever had. It pics up what I play with a quality sound and minimal background noise. I bought one to sing through and it makes my acoustic guitar sound so good I bought another for that. I haven't dropped it so I can't say much about the toughness but Shure is such a great brand that I'm sure, that it is tough too!
Any musician who lacks one of these is incomplete. This mic outright beats the SM58 and Beta58. It's only competitor could be the Beta87. The SM86 reproduces vocals with utmost precision and clarity. It has incredible gain before feedback, so turn up the volume and be heard! I have used it for 1 year and have not had a single problem with pops or anything.
