I've been playing for twelve years and have been through many different brands, styles and costs of ear buds and in ear monitors. Nothing i have ever used compares to these. I've used the BOSE !E2's, which cost the same, and these 215's completely mop the floor with them. There really is nothing on the market that can even come close. The ear pieces latch in so well, once you get the wire around your ear, you CANNOT shake these loose. Even if you don't have them in perfectly, you can hear them just the same, and they will not move. When you're an active moving drummer, you can't put a value on that. The quality of the cord is UNMATCHED. kevlar laced with removable buds?! You'd be hard pressed to make that cable quit, but if you ever do, you can replace it! SO RAD. The isolation they have is spectacular. i use the foam tips as opposed to the rubber, and they lock out the right frequencies where my kit still sounds crisp, clean and well rounded without making everything sound muddy. With the great isolation, you can turn your volumes down, still hear your ambient kit, and not ruin your eardrums. Even in the midst of playing my kit, the sound quality delivered to my ears is clean, focused and strong. I read many reviews saying these were relatively bassy buds, and they definitely crank out the bass. However i want to make sure to clarify these are still a very flat response earphone. They represent the music extremely well, and illustrate facets of music that you just cannot hear with other types of buds or over ears. I'm insanely happy with their performance thus far, on my kit and on the soundboard. Mixing for our auxiliary camera feed is 10 times greater with the quality and isolation these offer. I jumped between wanting these and the 315's. A friend of mine has the 315's, so I put one of his buds on mine(the cables are the same for every SE IEM) and did a side by side test. I could BARELY tell a difference, volume was identical, and the sound quality was almost perfectly matched. I will say the 315's have a slightly stronger high end, yet the 215's have a warmer low end. But i say again, the difference is so marginal you can barely tell. IF you're like me and debating between the two, just save a hundred dollars and get the 215's. They will not disappoint. Overall I recommend these to any musician who needs an amazing all around pair of buds that will be an all around go to set of speakers. If you're a drummer, DEFINITELY get something in the Shure SE line, they will not shake loose!

I bought these to use with my church gigs that have personal monitors. I bought the extended warranty and I'm glad I did! The first set I bought broke within the month. The second set lasted about 11 months which was great since the warranty still covered a new set. Then my third set (which I'm using now) broke just over a month after getting the replacement. If you have the time to send them back in and/or buy new ones every month or so, then they're great. No one else I know has had this much trouble with them but this is what happened to me.
FYI: The breaking happens when the sound starts having a crackle until the ear eventually stops working altogether. For me, the right one always go first.

Great for first few days then cut out issues.

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

When you first buy these guys, they sound fantastic, great buy and feel. However I just replaced my first pair three days ago that i bought 2 weeks ago due to issues of cutting out randomly, i thought it might of been just a bad pair but today i was using them (the new ones i got 3 days ago) and the same issue is now happening except more often. Note:i'm easy on these earphones while other people may use them for small shows and what not. It's quite bothersome being that for a hundred bucks you expect them to last longer but i did some research and it seems a lot of other buyers have this same issue. I'm going to talk to Shure to see what to do about this. Surprised that the other reviewers didn't have this issue. I don't recommend buying these guys, just be aware if you do, you're taking a chance.

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

First of all, i wan't this to be clear. These are not everyday use earphones primarily. these are the so called "in ear monitors" that musicians use. The purpose of a monitor is different from an everyday use headphone. It gets me confused when people complain about how weak the bass is in these. It is not weak. Its just that you are expecting some overwhelming freaking huge bass that makes your head dizzy, which is not a problem. But again these are MONITORS. if these would have that amount of bass they would be useless. However, i think these have the perfect amount of bass. You can feel every beat of the kick drum, but its not overpowering the highs so every detail is clear. Details... with these, i have found so many new things in songs that i haven't heard before. it is amazing! a bad thing could be the length of the cable, because for me as a drummer i needed to buy an extension cable. But this is not really a problem if consider how cheap the product actually is. Ohh and also i read those comments complaining about how easily they break, but again. IEMs are fragile. you have to take care of them, and store them properly. Or you can, and if you buy such product you should pay an extra 18 dollar for 2 years of insurance, and in that two years if you step on them, if you tear the cable if you do anything they will give you a new one. i think if the other guys would have payed for the insurance they wouldn't have any problems with these.

Overall, i love these. the clear ones look really cool, and i personally like an IEM to be see-through.The sound is very detailed and the bass is just on point. the cable could be a little longer, and finally, don't be cheap and pay the extra for the insurance.

Amazing!!!

By Robert Morris

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

We purchased the Shures after renting a monitor system to try it out and the Buds they sent with it were Sennheisers which were good enough for us to decide to purchase the monitor system but we weren't wild about the buds. after reading several reviews and knowing the quality of Shure products our leader decided on the Shure SE215's. After the first use they were a hit! They now carry them all the time and use them for everything. In fact I'm the sound man and our bass player is going to buy me a pair because he was so impressed with the bass capability. Not to mention the 2 year warranty if anything happens to them they replace them! If your a sound man and want to make the band happy definitely buy these buds!

For the price, It's the best purchase I've ever made!!!

By Daniel Shields

from Marietta, GA

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

The short version of this review is simple: if you?re on the fence about buying these phones or you?re just trying to keep a $100 budget, stop hesitating and buy these. For the price, you simply won?t find anything better. My first impression of the SE215?s was quite disappointing. But then I discovered that I wasn?t wearing them properly, and after correcting the problem my ears were launched into a state of pure sonic bliss. MAKE SHURE YOU ARE WEARING THEM CORRECTLY BEFORE DISMISSING THEM!! If the buds aren?t properly seated in your ear, or the foam earpieces don?t completely seal off your ear canal, they will sound horrid, with sharp shrill highs, over-pronounced mids, virtually zero lows, and a very thin, bright sound overall. Not to mention they will be fairly uncomfortable. I have a hunch that some of the low reviews were a result of improperly wearing them. However, once you figure it out, make sure you?re close to a chair, because you will get knocked off your feet! I can hear details in my music collection that I never knew existed. I conducted a frequency response test by sweeping a pure sine wave across the sonic spectrum and the SE215?s did not disappoint. They faithfully reproduced everything from 20Hz to the upper limits of my hearing (about 17kHz, but I?m sure they go much further). I?ll be using these to do most of my intricate mixing from now on unless I decide to upgrade my monitors. These in-ear monitors can fully produce lows that my monitors can?t even touch. Honestly, I was skeptical about buying these and I was also considering similarly priced products from other brands. I ultimately decided to get these because their frequency response is more flat and I wanted to use them for mixing and stage use, in addition to everyday listening. However, they still throw down enough bass to satisfy even the most demanding bass-happy rap fanatic. Another point worth mentioning is that they didn?t move a bit after a solid 10 seconds of heavy head-banging. Seriously, what are you waiting for!? BUY THESE EARPHONES!!

I am a drummer (loud and a hard hitter) and I use this to monitor my click track and my band. They are the PERFECT entry level IEM. I am throughly happy with this purchase. These aren't meant for the general population. These are meant for musicians doing studio work or stage work. These aren't for your iPod, Working out, library use, airplane use, casual listening etc. While they will work for those applications, they aren't designed for it and thus will produce lackluster results. Please disregard any reviews from individuals who obviously aren't musicians and had no business purchasing these!

They were great, the first couple of times I used them...

    By Alan Amaral

    from Nashua NH

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

I bought these to use as a wired IEM system with a Rolls PM50S that I had also purchased at the same time. They sounded great listening to MP3's, or when used as IEM's for our first practice with them. However, a week later, when I went to use them again (after they sat hanging over the mic stand unused) I found absolutely no sound from the right driver, and only some very quiet high end sound from the left. I tried switching the L/R connections and the sound followed the driver, i.e. still no sound from the right driver, so it wasn't the cable. Checked with a multi-meter and sure enough one side was open, and the other showed a connection. At this point I grabbed another set of earbuds and used them for the rest of the rehearsal. After the rehearsal I looked online and found that apparently lots of people have had problems with drivers going bad on this model. Luckily Shure and GC are both really good about customer service and will replace them under their 2 year warantee, but instead of just replacing them with the same model I opted to go for the SE315 instead and see if they are any better. I'll post a review of those after I get them and use them for a while.

    Great for Drummers.

    By Brian Beattie

    from Jackson, MS

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

I bought these about 4 months ago. I'd been using the Vic Firth headphones and found they did not give me enough isolation to hear the music without maxing out the volume. With these Shure earphones, I am completly satisfied. I turn my ipod up to about 1/2 volume, maybe one click more, and it's plenty loud enough to drum along. I also use these in the studio and prefer these to the normal headphones one would wear in that situation. I don't think I'll ever go back to headphones. I hope to get one or two more, eventually, to keep in the studio. Love them.

Comments about SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

Trying to get the perfect monitor mix now is easy and less stage volume so the sound guy can bring the house volume down. The club manager will be happy with the volume not being too loud. The best thing I don't have to put up with not hearing everyone the worst thing hearing the bad notes you keep playing. No floor monitors taking up space on a small stage no feedback form trying to get it as loud as possible before monitor feedback. Now that I hear you better I can tell who didn't practice enough lol...

I have used some SE215 for years with no problems, recently I picked up a new pair in May. It is what? December now. They are broken. Both ears have went out during live performances and this last Sunday they both completely went out. It just does not make sense. I paid over 100 for these, they should last years. I am obviously not looking for outstanding sound quality at that price, but I am looking for durability.

    Excellent sound reproduction

    By Lowell Rice

    from Austin, TX

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

These were replacements for my original "go to" monitoring ear buds. I am impressed by the quality of workmanship on these 'phones and the sound reproduction is great. But, I like my sound in ear to be as flat as possible, so if you're looking for a booming bass in your in ear, these may not be the ones for you. They do cut the external sound down considerably. And, again the sound reproduction is great. I would be giving a five star rating except for two things. The 'moldable' wire sheath which fits over the top and behind the ear takes about 5 or 6 adjustments to stay in place, which makes for a slightly uncomfortable fit the first few 'wears'. And, second, the length of the cable is a wee bit on the short side for me. But, both of those items are only 'shortcomings' in my opinion. Overall, the product is great and worth the ~$100 purchase price.

    By Sean Doherty

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

OKay, so I am going to set any bass players mind at ease. If you are looking for in-ear monitors that won't break the bank, have multiple buds for the in-ear portion for extreme comfort AND have an incredible sound....then you will want to make sure you have a pair of these in your stage gear. I am running these through a Behringer POWERPLAY P16-M 16-Channel Digital Personal Mixer. I love the fact that the Behringer allows me to chose each channel and select the the exact level of sound for each channel and I can even go right or left for balance. With that being said, I tried studio noise cancelling headphones with this set up and it was okay. These SHURE are WONDERFUL. Total noise cancelling on the stage. I play in a church band and am set up in between the drummer and our keyboardist (who plays a Hammond B-3 organ and Leslie Power Amp along with a yamaha Keyboards). Needless to say, I would leave with ringing ears week in and out. After out service this past Sunday, no ringing in the ears, I heard EVERYTHING crystal clear...Oh My Goodness, what a difference!!!! Take the time, research these great in-ear monitors and make the move, you will not be disappointed!!!!!

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

I own another set of these already. I want to have a second set to have available at our shows, just In case something goes wrong with the first pair. I use these for in-ear monitoring of my bass guitars and bass keyboard.I really love the bass response on these se215's. If both sets were lost or stolen, I would not hesitate to buy this model again. Getting them to seal in my ear was a bit challenging at first but once I figured out the correct "angle" into the ear canal, they seal perfect and don't move for the entire show. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They also work great for everyday use with an ipod.

    Great price to performance value

    By Roland Millington

    from Peoria, Illinois

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

I've recently gone in-ear and was concerned that these might not be bass-responsive enough for me, as I am a bass player in a pop/rock/dance band. I found a review that also listed the frequency responses of the Shure line, from the 215 to the 535. Overall, the 215 had the highest bass frequency response, so I opted to purchase a set of these instead of the 315s. And I was very pleased with what I got. They are extremely comfortable, and with the included foam tips, they sealed my ear canal very well. Not much is audible with them in. The quality is very good, and I was very happy with how they worked with my budget-priced Galaxy AS900 system. As I use the AS900 with our back-up sound guy, there's still some tweaking to be done on the send from the board, but I am definitely looking forward to how the whole thing sounds with our regular sound guy, who works a monitor system that is entirely in-ear. Seeing as I have owned it for less than a week, I can't speak to the reliability, but I have purchased the GC 2-year warranty, so I don't anticipate much in the way of issues with this system. The look and feel are great. Good fitment to the average ear, and the clear wires obviously don't show onstage all that much. All around, these are great buy, if you ask me.

Comments about Shure SE215 Dynamic Microdriver Earphones:

These are good headphones from a sonic perspective; not great, but good. However, they have a significant problem with the construction - the MMCX connector that allows the earbud driver to rotate at the end of the cable is flakey and unreliable. I use mine for an IEM system and after about the third usage the left earbud started to cut out. The problem got worse to the point where it didn't work at all. A bit of Internet searching revealed that this is a common problem, and while there are some online guides to fixing the problem, the fix doesn't work reliably either. I can't return these since they were a gift and I don't have the receipt, so I'm stuck with them, and disappointed with the product.
