I am a worship Pastor and I use these with our In ear monitor system and they rock. I am also a certified recording engineer and I like these better than most headphones I have ever used. These are great for whatever you need them for.
I purchased the 3's originaly and was delighted with the sound quality until I listened to the 5's. I purchased them and have enjoyed them tremendously. They are good enough that when I recently lost them to theft I purchased another pair to replace them. I ride a motorcycle and use them under my helmet to listen to music. They block out the road noise and the sound from my Harley so that the music comes through clear as a bell.
WOW! I'm IMPRESSED! If all you have had is bread, you can't conceive cake and ice cream! I have been utilizing the low end shure in ear monitor system (PSM200) with the issued ear phones for about 6 years. I could not figure out why my guitar didn't sound right until I got the SCL5 in ear monitor! What a world of difference that made! I also was able to hear the vocals like never before! I wish I had spent the money and got them sooner! WELL WORTH THE MONEY! I waited a month before doing a review to make sure I wasn't just blinded by the light! DO IT! THEY ARE WORTH IT!
The are great Pro in-ear monitors. No toys here! I used UE Triple Fi pro's and others and I have to say, the fit (flex foams are great), clear sound and rugged construction are just what an active player needs. I use these with an Aviom system and they are just great at delivering a clear mix where you can easily place individual instruments. No "boom" or "sizzle" hype that can be so tiring. Just a nice flat soundstage. Highly recommended! I use these in the studio as well!
I have tried other earphones and was not really happy with the sound quality and noise reduction. On a suggestion from a fellow musician, I bought the SCL5's and they are great. I will be ordering formed sleeves soon but as they came they are great. I finally settled with the Triple-Flange sleeves. Having multiple sleeve set options readily available to "custom" fit your ears was nice.
I have been using Shure E-1s for about a year and they work fair except when the stage volume is high. I just got the SCL-5s and I am able to hear Keyboards and Hammond very clearly even over the stage volume. The lower frequency sounds like strings were in the mix, I just didn't hear them before! They also fit much better and stay in good. I thought it was a lot of money but they were worth every penny.
I recently purchased these in-ears and I'm thinking why didn't I purchase them before. Great isolation, really good bass response over all some of the best ie I've bought. Worth every penny. I'm a drummer and having these instead of a floor wedge not only sound better but saves your hearing. I run them thru a seperate mixer.
These are absolutely incredible. I'm not a musician, but I'm huge on sound quality and flat reproduction. They have that, and incredibly detail. Great separation of instruments and soundstage. They have great frequency response and can thump if you want them to. A bit pricey, but to me worth every penny. A+
