I ordered a couple of these cartridges last week. It is amazing how clean the music sounds. Really impressed with the Shure m447. This cartridge will not skip no matter how crazy you get while scratching.
It's really simple if you want to scratch records, then you buy N447s. These babies stick to grooves like glue. If you set them up properly they are virtually skip proof under most conditions. For a "scratch" needle they have surprisingly great sound, and are a good bargain compared to much pricier competitors. They also are much gentler on your wax compared to others. My favorite needle of all time, and I've been spinning professionally since 1986. I even keep an extra pair in my glove box for emergencies. Love these bad boys!
Compared to the cartridge/stylus I have "made" for timecoded records, the Shures blow them out of the water. Better sound, great tracking, and just smooth all around. Also, a lot less expensive! Highly recommend this.
Price wise:Can't beat the price.Even if you try to assemble them yourself your still going to end up paying more for them in the long run. Product: Good sound and quality stuff.Comes with spair parts. The case they come in can be used as a hardcase.
"I use serato, and I noticed a huge difference from my other headshells, to these. Everything is sharper clearer, and the bass is way deeper." If you use a digital vinyl system like Serato, ALL of the sound is coming from the audio interface. NONE of it is coming from the needle, or even from the turntable. That said, this is hands down the only overhead-mount cartridge you should consider. It's inexpensive and easy to find replacement parts for. It tracks like it was glued to the groove, even under demanding or abusive conditions. There's a reason it's the gold standard. It has one of the highest output voltages around, so every use benefits. Your timecoded Serato records may track better, depending on your previous needles. Your output gain on vinyl audio will be nice and high without artificial boosting from your mixer. "Sound quality" is a vague term, but this cartridge has good "qualities" to its sound if you are playing real vinyl. I have used these to play 180g pressings and am mostly pleased with the way they sound. If you are DJ looking for a needle for recreational listening, do yourself a favor - buy a belt driven turntable (keep the direct drives in your battle case) and a good concorde-style needle. If you are spinning at a club with the world's nicest sound system, you can probably afford the almost twice-as-expensive Ortofons you'd need to buy to see an improvement. For every other application, from scratchin in your basement to gigging at a club, these are a wise choice.
I had gone through a couple of needles before I came across these. I did some research and watched some videos and everything looked good. I went and bought two of them and hooked them right up to my decks. I noticed an immediate change, my records weren't skipping anymore and the sound was incredible. These are built to last. So, I'm getting another one as soon as I get my new decks.
I JUST BOUGHT THESE SHURE M44-7H CAUSE I LOVE TO MIX AND AND SCRATCH ON THE SERATO AND THESE WILL DO EVERYTHING IT SAY'S PLUS MUCH MORE.THERE IS NOTHING MORE OUT THERE THAT ANY ONE WOULD LIKE TO BUY OR WASTE MONEY ON IF IT'S NOT THE SHURE'S M44-7H THE BASS LINE ON THE VINYALS ARE MUCH CLEANER AND CRIPS AND THE SOUNDS ARE ALOT BETTER WITH THESE BABIES I GUARANTEE
I bought these cause several of my DJ friends said that they were the best, and they are. I use serato, and I noticed a huge difference from my other headshells, to these. Everything is sharper clearer, and the bass is way deeper.
I bought this shure needle the same time i bought my turntable, almost a year ago. I learned the basics of scratching with it, and sample records on a daily basis. Sampling old vinyl with this needle is awesome. It makes the quality of older records sounds better. One of the best needles on the market for the price.
