One great microphone

By Les

from California, in the O.C.

Comments about Shure KSM9 Dual Diaphragm Performance Condenser Microphone:

I'm an amateur guitar player/singer but sound is very important to me. From hi end two channel audio, to Home theater, to listening to live music, it all must sound good or it ruins the experience for me. So far I only play for my own enjoyment and also for a bible study group every few weeks or so but the equipment that I use is really first rate, including this microphone. I was previously using a Beta 87C and while it was OK, it cannot compare to this one. The sound quality, transient response, the textures that come across from the KSM9 are all superb. The build quality looks to be outstanding also and I've had no issues. The included case is also great. The other two microphones that were in the same category were also considered, but the Neumann KMS 104/105 didn't have the switchable polar patterns and the Sennheiser E965 got enough mixed reviews that I shied away from it. I might acquire one of these sometime in the future though and it probably will be the Neumann since I know a little bit more about what I like now. I use my KSM9 in conjunction with a Vocalist Live 5 vocal processor and the sound is simply fantastic! 60's duet type material sounds alive and worship songs sound great solo or with full harmonies kicked in. There really is less proximity effect with this mic, which is something I had an issue with on the Beta 87C. It seems that I like the way the cardioid pattern responds versus the super cardioid but that switch allows me to choose which one at a moments notice. I would highly recommend this microphone for those that demand the best sound. The list of pro's that use this model for a live show is impressive. you can check out the artists that use the KSM9 on the Shure website and if you like what they sound like in concert, then you'll like how it sounds for you.

Comments about Shure KSM9 Dual Diaphragm Performance Condenser Microphone:

I'm a lead singer in a male vocal band. So yes the sound quality of my mic is essential for my performance. I've tried MANY mics ( Audix OM6, Shure beta 87A, Senheisser 945e which I own, Audio technica 5400ae, Electro-Voice N/D767a, Shure SM58 normal and Beta version), trying to look for the best sound quality. Anyone that knows anything about mics knows that I've metioned some top performers in my list, so now I may come to my conclusion.

If you want true studio quality in your hand with amazing rejection of feedback dude look no more. This mic trully delivers amazing sound quality and the feature of changeing patterns is just too cool. Plus, shure recognizes your investment by giving you a cool metal housing that protects the mic while its stored. This is something others like senheisser and Neuman (same prized competitors)don't take into consideration.

So when I want studio quality I go KSM9 but in extremely noisy settings where quality is really not needed I go with my bulldog Senheiser 945e which to me is the best dynamic mic out there it sounds almost like a condensor but with the robustness of a Dynamic. In my case though I usually sing in a very controlled enviroment so I can use my condensor KSM9 with no problem... Hope this helps

Comments about Shure KSM9 Dual Diaphragm Performance Condenser Microphone:

I own 5 of these. I sold my Neumann 105 because the KSM9 is better and more flexible. I've used this mic to record Opera great Sylvia McNair's cabaret show.
The singer in my band, Elsie Parker and the Poor People of Paris, uses this mic exclusively. It captures her alto voice beautifully and when we record our concerts it's like having a U87 on her.
The gain before feedback is exceptional.
I've got Neumanns, DPA's, Schoeps and more and this mic stands up to them all.

Comments about Shure KSM9 Dual Diaphragm Performance Condenser Microphone:

Clarity and fullness! I just do not have to work as hard to sing with this. Wonderful. Best live vocal mic I have used. Use it with some Mogami quad cable and just a near unmatched clear vocal sound.

      Best vocal mic ever!!!!!

      By Sam Martin

      from Redding, CA

Comments about Shure KSM9 Dual Diaphragm Performance Condenser Microphone:

I recently bought this mic (KSM9) after trying it at a music shop, and it is an exceptional vocal mic, the best I've ever utilised. Everyone on my team thinks we should get more. It is so clear and it absolutely boosts more from the BETA87A range than the Neumann KMS 105 does. The KMS 105 although being a great mic sounds to dry compared to this one.

      Great Live Microphone

      By Brother Burr

      from Hilton Head Island, SC

Comments about Shure KSM9 Dual Diaphragm Performance Condenser Microphone:

I have used this mic in my live shows for a year now. I tried many others prior to springing for the price of an ultra-high end solution. My vocals are the most important aspect of what I do so I wanted to invest wisely. This mic is the right answer for me. Great high-end clarity and range control ... with little or no feedback when set as per the specifications. I recommend it if you can justify the cost.

      very smooth mic KSM9

      By Beats working :)

Comments about Shure KSM9 Dual Diaphragm Performance Condenser Microphone:

This is a fine mic. If you are going from the Beta 87 like us the difference is more subtle than say from a Beta 58. We first bought the Neuman KMS 105 but found we were unplugging them after the first set and taking out the Beta 87's on almost every gig. Not good for the price of owning them. I suppose for recording situations the Neumans are tops, but for live?, well I can only relate my own experiences. The Neumans sounded too dry / dull to us. Anyway, since we went with the KSM9 a few months ago they have not been unplugged once on a gig and the Beta 87s appear to be permanently retired to a backup role now. If you like the Beta 87 you will like this one even more but you will pay more than double for it. We are full timers and to us if it makes us just that much better it's worth it. We have some strong singers, and they all have said the KSM9 makes it easier to sing and hit notes without pushing as hard. I've owned just about every mic there is in my career and to me this one is the best yet. I also own Audix OM5 and VX5, Beyer, AKG. They are good mics too but the KSM9 is my preference now.

      Increadable Mic

      By Tyler Emond

      from NH

Comments about Shure KSM9 Dual Diaphragm Performance Condenser Microphone:

I have seen a few bands use this. I have heard about it. I know it is an amazing Microphone, thats why so many artist are switching to it. The Features like Cardiod/Supercardiod Switchable is amazing. It is the 1st of its kind in handheld. It is also Condensor which brings Studio Quality On-Stage. I am probably going to switch from the Beta 58A to the KSM9 in the next 6 Months because I want a condensor and there is no better handheld mic out there. I highly Recommend it It sounds amazing in what I have heard of it.
