  • Incredible

As reviewed by Josh on 1/5/2011

For recording live sound these don't have the kindof a clear response i like. But for DJing these are freakin' awesome. I put a headphone amp on them and it feels like my 500 watt cabinets. The bass response beats the crap out of my other headphones (and i thought my others were pretty awesome). I no longer have to keep my neighbors awake at night.

  • Great Tool

As reviewed by Nick T. on 6/25/2011

I just felt the obligation to make it clear that these phones have GREAT response, and full bass, sorry they're not ipod headphones. By the lack of depth of the other couple reviews, these phones deserve definitive analysis. Check it: -They require an amp. These are more or less, useless out of the studio/offstage. -They are HIGH IMPEDANCE monitors, which allows them to be pushed out of boards at high volume. -They are dj tools, so there is an obvious response curve of pushed highs, and accentuated bass, in the 60hz range. They hit lower and more audibly than any other wraparounds I've owned, price aside, but will sound like the worst headphones you ever put over your ears unless pushed with enough force to move those 50mm drivers. It's like giving a GTO a Prius engine and expecting anything but disappointment. Most cable extensions are 1/8", but maybe the 3.5mm jack misleads consumers, because I can't think of one 1/8mm device that could push these properly, including even the 30mW Ipods. Not one negative review said anything of how beautifully these cut through a mix onstage, huh? They are more of a crossover dj/listening headset, because of the earcup fit. They are one of the fully encompassing sweaty behemoths, not the hard, shallow earcup of the Zone XD53's, Technics, or Sony MDR-V700's. So I have a diehard dj set, that sucks to listen to music through anything but mono-aurally on your shoulder, and then THESE. The cushy, powerful temples of bass on my head. I agree with one of the other reviews, I STILL constantly take them off to make sure my speakers aren't on (B&W dm604 s3's, Klisch rf-25's, and a rw 10d, yeah, that's how much these phones rock your WHOLE body!) Believe me. I'm a doofus and brought these on an Amtrak trip, and lost them in a confusion during a transfer. My fault, made somebody's year. Then again they will just plug it into a consumer media player and think less of Shure. But the whole point is, after about two songs in, it was very aparent my ASUS laptop wasn't going to push these phones at all, and was jealous of those craptacular ipod earbuds riding next to me. Yeah, that's how mush these NEED an amp. Needless to say, I WILL be buying another pair next paycheck.

  • Good Quality, just low bass

As reviewed by Caleb Smith on 5/23/2011

I bought these headphones after spending a while reviewing and looking over all my options. I do believe these are amazing headphones, but more for studio use or someone who doesn't care about hearing the bass. I started out with Trance and it hit lows insufficiently, tried rap and drum and bass with absolutely no change. These headphones simply lack bass. They are amazing for sound don't get me wrong, but the balance I was looking for is not held within this product.
