  • Great Condenser Microphone!!

As reviewed by Jake Roys on 11/30/2010

This is a VERY high quality mic for an extremely affordable price. I must admit, I don't have a lot of knowledge about microphones, but I've used a few regular consumer mics which more or less, got the job done, but this makes a world of difference. Great audio quality and clarity. the 20dB pad is great for recording Drums or loud instruments. Great mic! I recommend buying it with the Shure X2u XLR interface if you plan on recording via USB.

  • Applied correctly, excellent mics.

As reviewed by Carey on 12/4/2014

This is my first review ever, and I'm beginning a phase where I will review all my equipment with proper scrutiny. Bought a pair of these seeking an "all around" pair of workhorse mics for my tiny studio (9x14x8) which is in the process of being treated. As of now, it is untreated and has a... prominent... "small room" sound. These mics are very sensitive and pick up that room sound. That's a good thing if you have a good sounding room. I have a very deep and boomy voice, and my voice does not sound good in this room... and these mics pick that up. My voice is also a bit unique and difficult to capture correctly, but I do not blame that on the mics.I have recorded female vocals and acoustic guitar in here with the two PG27's simultaneously, to EXCELLENT success. Trying to develop a good stereo drum overhead setup, these mics sound great, but my room ruins the sound. I've used these on my guitar amp and the recording is not great, but I will be honest with myself and blame it on my crappy amp and room before blaming the mics. I was screwing around on my mic setup for my (relatively new, still stock heads) kit today and found that while my SM58 makes a terrible snare mic in this room, the pg27 brings out the snare (close-mic'd) loud, clear, and punchy. The snare alone sounds like it came off a djent album. BOTTOM LINE IS, if you don't know how to handle these mics or have a bad room, or rough mic placement, these mics will pick it up. But if you do things right, there is nothing wrong with these babies. Today made me certain I was happy with my purchase.
