  • Great needle!

As reviewed by Derek on 11/14/2006

I bought this shure needle the same time i bought my turntable, almost a year ago. I learned the basics of scratching with it, and sample records on a daily basis. Sampling old vinyl with this needle is awesome. It makes the quality of older records sounds better. One of the best needles on the market for the price.

  • The gold standard for overhead mount needles

As reviewed by DJ Resistor on 12/7/2009

"I use serato, and I noticed a huge difference from my other headshells, to these. Everything is sharper clearer, and the bass is way deeper." If you use a digital vinyl system like Serato, ALL of the sound is coming from the audio interface. NONE of it is coming from the needle, or even from the turntable. That said, this is hands down the only overhead-mount cartridge you should consider. It's inexpensive and easy to find replacement parts for. It tracks like it was glued to the groove, even under demanding or abusive conditions. There's a reason it's the gold standard. It has one of the highest output voltages around, so every use benefits. Your timecoded Serato records may track better, depending on your previous needles. Your output gain on vinyl audio will be nice and high without artificial boosting from your mixer. "Sound quality" is a vague term, but this cartridge has good "qualities" to its sound if you are playing real vinyl. I have used these to play 180g pressings and am mostly pleased with the way they sound. If you are DJ looking for a needle for recreational listening, do yourself a favor - buy a belt driven turntable (keep the direct drives in your battle case) and a good concorde-style needle. If you are spinning at a club with the world's nicest sound system, you can probably afford the almost twice-as-expensive Ortofons you'd need to buy to see an improvement. For every other application, from scratchin in your basement to gigging at a club, these are a wise choice.

  • The Bomb Diggity!!!

As reviewed by DJ_Waldo on 8/28/2009

I bought these cause several of my DJ friends said that they were the best, and they are. I use serato, and I noticed a huge difference from my other headshells, to these. Everything is sharper clearer, and the bass is way deeper.
