Wicked harp tone!

The Shaker Madcat is a miniature, handmade microphone made expressly for the harmonica player. It cups easily in the hand letting you produce very natural wah-wah sounds while putting the lid on the harp player's biggest enemy—feedback. The Madcat is equipped with a volume knob, short 1/4" cable, and comes with an extender jack for connecting a longer instrument cable. Th Shaker Madcat is is a great alternative to bulkier, heavier bullet-style mics which doesn't compromise on the filthy tone blues players demand.

  • Allows a different way to play with great sound

As reviewed by John Lasell on 4/25/2011

I'm a new user of a couple of weeks but I love this mike. This small compact mike disappears into your cupped hand where it is almost weightless compared to the older bullet mikes. It is counterbalanced by the volume knob on outside of your fingers. The pick up is great and clean, wonderful tone. Control is out where you can see it without those few seconds of searching for the knob that you see even experienced performers do, so it's easy to turn it up mid song. Lets you use your hands as you would playing acoustic. The controls are all at the high end of the dial, so the distance to turn the knob is tight and it takes some getting used to. I'd like to try a version with a click knob so I could preset and tell where I was, I hate worrying about mechanics while I'm playing but I think once I get used to it I'll be fine. Quality feels very good. Doesn't feel like anything is going to break. You can drop it without worry. It is so small I pack it on top of my old howler for transport, doesn't need it's own compartment. It's set up for a wireless hookup or you can just struggle with a long cord, snaking under the feet of the other band members, get a fat one. I've even used it for back up vocals. While the feedback issue is better, I still get some in close spaces, which is mainly where I play with amps behind the band, maybe more a function of strange boardmen trying to crank the volume on a timid player. I see them blaming the mike rather than the player which is nice but probably uncalled for. This thing has balls. Just because the old timers used old telephones cut in half for microphones doesn't mean we have to. That said, I like the design so much I bought it's big brother, the Mad Dog, on line and am eagerly waiting to compare them, come on US Mail. And it is one of the few things still made in the USA. This is a great design, that allows you to play instead of handling a mike. We wait for good design and then get stuck in our ways, with the old problems, this is a game changer. Try it.
