Availability:

Wicked harp tone!

The Shaker Madcat is a miniature, handmade microphone made expressly for the harmonica player. It cups easily in the hand letting you produce very natural wah-wah sounds while putting the lid on the harp player's biggest enemy—feedback. The Madcat is equipped with a volume knob, short 1/4" cable, and comes with an extender jack for connecting a longer instrument cable. Th Shaker Madcat is is a great alternative to bulkier, heavier bullet-style mics which doesn't compromise on the filthy tone blues players demand.

Shaker Madcat Harmonica Microphone Features:

  • Miniature, handmade mic
Cups easily for natural wah-wah sounds
    Almost totally eliminates feedback
    Integral volume knob
Short 1/4" cable with extender jack

  • Blues or polka not..

As reviewed by Kerry Buell on 5/14/2012

Shacker has an ansewer for you! I am just revieing the madcat but the maddog could be good. The madcat is small enough to use between my ring finger and my birdie fingergreat distotion. But to get the best wa wa I place it comfortably between my ring finger and my little finger. That is the cleanest sound if I want clean. CLEAN! yes but that is not the object of blues. To get clean turn the mic voulune douwn half way adjust the PA and dont use a stage amp. It will play clean single notes and polka all night, ARGH!!! I have hotharp pickups for that crap. The madecat is made for blues and that means volume and effects. Crank the mic volume up all the way feedback rejection is the best of any amped mics I have used. And there are some great tube amps that come on a list with the mic if you need help but picking but digital can get the job done to. A cheap toy through the PA can work. Here is one I did not expect and it takes a well experienced touch to get it to WOW what was that. I ran the madcat into my R24 and used the distortion built into it. It can be tweaked numerous ways with results from ouch that hurts to hey thats gold. Found one place where the R24 is better than any digital toy and cant be done on one tube amp. Bent notes and chourus sound like a distorted tube amp, long and slow drawn notes sound like an electric gutair and a double bend with a twist sounds like Steven tayler (no offence dude). This is a plus plus mic and I will be going to shaker (a couple hunderd miles from my place) to buy another and leave some demos. They need to hear this through my R24 and only my mouth and tweak can do that. After playing forty years I can say with confidence this mic Will do it all, Rock ,blues Pshyco, double pumpers and even crhomatic and polka. Only draw back is soft tremola. I use a speacial condenser for that and still like hotharp pick ups for large harmonicas with no moving parts and paper reeds. The madcat will blow your blues away bend time and rock your world. I am no salsemen just dont be with out one if you play blues harp or rock and can bend a note consistently. They are spendy.

  • Allows a different way to play with great sound

As reviewed by John Lasell on 4/25/2011

I'm a new user of a couple of weeks but I love this mike. This small compact mike disappears into your cupped hand where it is almost weightless compared to the older bullet mikes. It is counterbalanced by the volume knob on outside of your fingers. The pick up is great and clean, wonderful tone. Control is out where you can see it without those few seconds of searching for the knob that you see even experienced performers do, so it's easy to turn it up mid song. Lets you use your hands as you would playing acoustic. The controls are all at the high end of the dial, so the distance to turn the knob is tight and it takes some getting used to. I'd like to try a version with a click knob so I could preset and tell where I was, I hate worrying about mechanics while I'm playing but I think once I get used to it I'll be fine. Quality feels very good. Doesn't feel like anything is going to break. You can drop it without worry. It is so small I pack it on top of my old howler for transport, doesn't need it's own compartment. It's set up for a wireless hookup or you can just struggle with a long cord, snaking under the feet of the other band members, get a fat one. I've even used it for back up vocals. While the feedback issue is better, I still get some in close spaces, which is mainly where I play with amps behind the band, maybe more a function of strange boardmen trying to crank the volume on a timid player. I see them blaming the mike rather than the player which is nice but probably uncalled for. This thing has balls. Just because the old timers used old telephones cut in half for microphones doesn't mean we have to. That said, I like the design so much I bought it's big brother, the Mad Dog, on line and am eagerly waiting to compare them, come on US Mail. And it is one of the few things still made in the USA. This is a great design, that allows you to play instead of handling a mike. We wait for good design and then get stuck in our ways, with the old problems, this is a game changer. Try it.
