Overview

The pedal-like Stompin'Bass adds percussive bass drum to your sound. With Shadow Electronics' active NanoMAG pickup, the Shadow Stompin'Bass is perfect for musicians who like to create a natural rhythm to accompany acoustic performance without drums. Made out of chosen rosewood, which is often used for high-class bass guitars, the Stompin'Bass works as a fantastic bass or bass drum accompaniment to your acoustic band.

Its slanted top, with special anti-slip material, gives a player comfort and easy use with the foot, while the NanoMAG pickup supplies a full, deep and warm bass sound. A completely shielded case and low impedance output protect it from outside magnetic disturbances and makes it totally hum-free. Depending on your equipment, the material of your shoes and how hard you stomp will produce different sounds. A single 9V battery powers the Shadow Stompin'Bass.

A removable extension is included so that your foot is in a more comfortable position for playing long periods. The extension is attached via industrial Velcro so it can be removed easily if it is not desired for playing.

The Stompin'Bass percussive bass drum has a standard output jack which can be plugged straight into any PA or EQ, pedal, guitar amplifier you like, to produce the tone and volume which best suits your style.

I'm a solo performer and this little wood box is a good help for me because now, i have, virtually, a kick drum which i trigger with my foot. The sound is ok. It would be better to have some kind of EQ or a few presets to reach optimal sound faster in a live situation. If you are thinking in a Stomp Bass box, this is a good choice, although you can check the Ellis and the Porch Board also.

This is a good addition for a solo performer. The Shadow Stompin' Bass is well built and comes in a nice carrying case. However, it needs sound filtering or something. Basically, it is a box with a humbucker pickup in it. It could use a tone control, or at least a capacitor on the output. If you use it on a carpeted floor, it does fine. On a wooden or other slippery floor, it gets noisy - especially if it slips under foot. Not only does it pick up every stomp from your foot, it also picks up any noise from shifting it around on the floor. I used an equalizer to cut everything but the lowest frequency and one band in the upper midrange for a little bit of "slap." That worked ok. But it slipped around on the hardwood floor and every time I moved it, we heard the move through the PA. Considering all this, I would say it is overpriced. Adding a capacitor shouldn't up the cost of manufacture much.

Comments about Shadow Stompin'Bass Percussive Bass Drum Instrument:

Well, I had read the other negative reviews but thought maybe with some carpeting or ?? I could get something useful out of this stomp board. No luck. It's quite small..just fits the size of your shoe and theres no velcro or anything to make it stable to the floor. The main problem however is that it has one sound that is not alterable.. a click which doesn't lend itself to any genre of music that I can think of. I really need this type of unit as I sing and play acoustic guitar and would love a little bass stomp with my country type sounds but this isn't it. Booo.

        • Foot Tapping Sound

Comments about Shadow Stompin'Bass Percussive Bass Drum Instrument:

I was very disappointed in the sound of this product for the cost. You could easily just tape a mic to the floor and just tap your foot on it for the same effect. It lacked any warmth or depth to be considered a "bass" sound. It's just a pickup under a pad that you tap your foot on and sounds very "clicky". Its a 100% failure in my opinion as some kind of great addition to an acoustic setup or solo act. I am returning it immediately. As always MF was super cool about the return and I do appreciate that. This product would be much better if the foot tap triggered an actual bass drum type of sound. The description of the product is incorrect. I even added some effects on it through the PA to help the sound depth and lower the frequency but it still just sounded like a cheap thud.

Comments about Shadow Stompin'Bass Percussive Bass Drum Instrument:

I work in a blues duo and this is perfect for keeping time and adding a little drive. It sounds like a big old style bass drum. Controlling the tone in the PA is simple enough to make controls on the device unnecessary.

          Stomping Bass Percussion Drum

          Easy to use.
I bought this foot pedal drum and like it a lot. Easy to use. Nice to practice with. Just a cool little toy.
Plugs into my Mark Bass amp. You will need an outlet connection in your amp. Turn your bass down and the drum will be louder from the volume of the amp.

A winning product..Don't be scared by the price.

Comments about Shadow Stompin'Bass Percussive Bass Drum Instrument:

I am playing in a blues duo recently and the singer bought a $100 footboard to keep the rhythm 'thump' going. The board has volume and tone knobs and a great look to it. We used it for a few practices and had everything cranked, the amp and the footboard and it was just barely audible and had no bottom end.I then checked out the Shadow 'stompin bass' footboard which is twice the price. We plugged it in and BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! This thing sounded like a bass drum!!!!!!! It was night and day and we both looked at each other and said, THIS IS IT! We also commented that I guess you get what you pay for. No volume or tone pots on the Shadow unit but it's really not missed. Simply dial in the amp and it was the best. Tone was perfect, low like a bass drum. Volume was LOUD. We have the amp on 2 and it was cranking through the mix. Easy 9v battery access, non skid floor pad underneath, great carrying case, quality 1/4" jack, beautiful rosewood construction...etc...etc...Thanks to Shadow now we have a viable bass drum sound without lugging the bass drum around. I felt really bad because the singer was almost embarrassed with his pedal that he bought. Great job by Shadow on this one.

This box is simple ands sounds great. Any acoustic musicians that play open mics or festivals that expect you to plug in and play will appreciate how fast the box can be dialed in. Very solid construction.

          Stomp This !

          By JeffJams

          from Po'town, New York

Comments about Shadow Stompin'Bass Percussive Bass Drum Instrument:

This pedal kicks butt ! I've been waiting nearly six months since I saw this advertised in Guitar Player and Guitar World Magazines. Finally, a product that replaces my need for miking my foot or tapping a tamborine for some added rhythm to my playing. As a versatile guitarist that plays weelky gigs doing Flamenco as well some solo acoustic blues (when not with my band Night Train), the Stompin' Bass adds a subtle and natural sounding percussive accomaniment. I gave it all 5's because I have nothing else to compare it to. It folds up into a CD size case and works well standing and sitting. The only drawbacks are no 9V AC plug and there is only one sound. It could use a volume and tone control to mix it up a little. It has Cajones and gets my Mojo workin'.
