Comments about Seymour Duncan STR-1 Vintage '54 Tele Rhythm Electric Guitar Pickup:

Installed this in an Indonesian made G&L ASAT Telecaster, replacing the dead sounding low cost pickup that came with the guitar. The STR-1 in the neck position provides the true vintage tele sound: ice pick clarity with decent low end at the neck. Don't be afraid to adjust it up close to the strings (1/16" high side and 1/8" low side) since factory pickup height settings are typicIly too low IMO, and I prefer the output of my neck and bridge pickups to sound close to each other. The magnet in the small sized tele neck pickups is not powerful enough to impact string performance (that's a good thing). The STR-1 WILL be out of phase with the bridge pickup if that bridge pup is an original Fender or (evidently) G&L. So you'll need to read, understand, and follow the instructions carefully if you want the two pickups to play together in phase (i.e. reverse the black & white wires on the STR-1 and cut the jumper on the underside of the STR-1) Don't be afraid. Do it. Finally, please don't defeat the purpose of having a Telecaster by putting a high output humbucker-sounding pickup in it. STR-1 is a worthy choice.

    Vintage 54

Comments about Seymour Duncan STR-1 Vintage '54 Tele Rhythm Electric Guitar Pickup:

Overall I would have to say this pickup sounds awesome. I anticipated it being a little hotter in the output department but that can be remedied. Great pickup, good response, clean sound.
Very clean and almost a brown sound at times. Very vintage sounding to my ear.
Seems to be a hardy little pickup. No problems with any facet of this pickup thus far.
Very much worth the money. I would buy another in a minute.

    STR-1 pickup

Comments about Seymour Duncan STR-1 Vintage '54 Tele Rhythm Electric Guitar Pickup:

Five stars all the way. Seymour Duncan doesn't make any junk, just install one of their PUP's and, you'll most certainly agree...
The neck PUP in my American 70's Tele just wasn't cutting it anymore. Hum and buzz, reduced output, it really had become unusable at a gig. I thought I'd give this a try. Sounds Great!! A real improvement over the stock PUP. The tech staff at Seymour Duncan are really great if you have any questions or need a little help with the install. Very Satisfied!!
Very well made, a perfect fit and, very easy to install.
Everything could be less expensive, I think we all could agree on that but, you don't mind paying for something if it is good quality and, performance is all you could want.

    Nice Smooth Neck Pickup

    By Leo Thomas

    from Boston

Comments about Seymour Duncan STR-1 Vintage '54 Tele Rhythm Electric Guitar Pickup:

Seymour Duncan STR-1 54 Neck Pickup I bought this to replace the neck pickup in a Hondo Fame Telecaster copy. The pickups in this guitar were weak and a bit dull. It was a toss up between the Seymour Duncans & Dimarzio Twang King or True Velvet. Since I have Duncans in my other guitars , I opted for the Duncans. The pickup is pretty much what I expected based on Seymour Duncans decription and other players reviews. As far as I can tell , it's true to a 50's neck pickup. It's not as bright as a Strat pickup and has a very nice smooth tone. Works fine for Blues , Jazz , Pop etc.. it's not got alot of TWANG like maybe the Twang King neck pickup does so it really depends on what you are looking for. I was going for a traditional 50's Tele sound and I think I've achieved that or come close anyway. I gave it a four because it could probably do with just a tad, smidge, hair, whatever you want to call it more top end but then again I didn't want it so bright as a Strat. The output I would say is moderate which is how it's described on the Duncan website. I'm happy enough with it for the moment. Definately good quality here as I've always found with Seymour Duncan pickups. I have it twinned with a Jerry Donahue model in the bridge and they work really well together. This combination works well for Country, Classic Rock, Jazz, Pop etc......

    Great Warm Clean Twaaangy Tone!

Comments about Seymour Duncan STR-1 Vintage '54 Tele Rhythm Electric Guitar Pickup:

I bought this pickup as a mistake, because I wanted a stacked (noiseless humbucker) pickup, but I m glad anyway. I Installed this pickup in a Squier Stndard but it sounded too bassy rolling all the vol up and cut the treble when roll the vol down. I fixed this problem with 500k pots (they came stock in stndard squiers) and a TREBLE BLEED capacitor in the vol pot. I dont give credit to my ears after the instalation: the most pure, powerfull, clean biting sound in a tele neck. This pickup provides a very warm and clear sound with powerfull twang; a great vintage tone suitable for classic rock, roots stuff, etc. I have other 2 teles, and MIM with its stock neck pickup and a Affnty with a fender TexMex, they sound awesome! but the neck pickup sound I most love is the STR-1.If you try this pickup be sure to h

    Bassy and clear

    By yohanuos braamz

Comments about Seymour Duncan STR-1 Vintage '54 Tele Rhythm Electric Guitar Pickup:

Neck position makes for the previously mentioned Bassy and clear noiseless sound. adjusting the tone knob/s can basically produce anything you want(paired with a compatible pickup in the bridge) it is also very pretty unless you get it full of your finger prints from touching it to much upon installation.
