Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I love the way Stratocasters feel and play but I'm not a fan of their jangley sound. I have owned about 5 Fender Strats over the course of few years trying to "find my tone" and I sold each and every Strat do to the way the pickups sounded.....don't get me wrong I love single coil guitars and I own several Danelectros which have phenomenal single coils that my Strats just couldn't do. I am a Stratocaster player because they just call my name and I feel they are hands down the best all around guitar out there.
I ended up finding "the one" out of all the Strats that I've owned and I simply could not sell this one so I started to do some research and I came across the SD Hot Rails.......wow what a difference this baby made for my tone! All the benefits and versatility in a Strat with a big LP humbucker sound! I need to make one thing clear..... this pick up sounds better than a stock Les Paul which I find to be way too dark, the Hot Rails will give you the treble that you need to retain your Strat sound. I installed my HR in the bridge position in about 15 minutes........Just buy it you will love it.

      Tone, or Power?

      By Mark

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I think that is what it comes down to. If you want an ultra-power humbucker for your strat, this is it. You will get the sustain and squeals. The price you pay is tone. If you want more "umph" in your strat and you like humbucker tone, then my opinion is the JB-jr. It has more tone than the hot rails. Lastly, if you love the single coil tone but want a bit more edge, the SSL-5 is great. I find that after a few years of playing a strat, I have simply come to love single coil tone - in my opinion the best tone for a strat. I took the hot rails out and put an ssl-5 in. Can't do metal, but oh does it freakin' sound good.

      Rock On!

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I bought one of these as a new bridge pickup for my Fender Stratocaster and it sounds so COOL. It's really great for Punk Rock power chords & face melting guitar solos and so much more. This pickup is great for brighter sounds and higher output. But also it doesn't cost too much plus It's American made.

      Excellent upgrade

      By Richard Sutterfield

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I put one of these in a Starcaster in the bridge position just for grins, and it sounds great! I installed a mini-toggle switch to control the hot rail like they show in one of the suggested wiring diagrams. I like toggles better than push-pull knobs, but you can do it that way if you want. Again, all that works great, the humbucker will allow you to use any high-gain amp you wish without any hum, and you get new noise-cancelling single-coil switch positions too with your same 5-way switch.

Great pickup, but not for me

      By Luis Marquez

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I got a used guitar with this pickup in the bridge position, and it sounds great with any kind of distortion that you put on it. The only problem that I find with it is that it gives a really dirty and muddled clean tone, but that's just me. I like to play a lot of RHCP and it doesn't really mix well with that style

      Not for me

      By Joe Meshkoff

      from Tacoma, Wa

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

For what it's designed for it works great. I put one of these in the bridge position of my American Strat and I got the instant crunch I was looking for. The downside for me was loosing that great tone you get with the bridge/middle pickups selected. Either clean or with a little dirt it just doesn't sound good to me. This is my first Strat and after 4 years I guess I have grown to like the single coil sounds I was getting. I'm looking at the Area 61 now with the Eric Johnson wiring and that should get me to that dirty heavy blues on the verge of meal sound I'm searching for while retaining the Strat character. If you're looking to crunch-ify a Strat this is for you, very heavy on the mids but it does what it's designed to do.

Incredible Sound, Incredible Price, Just INCREDIBLE

      By Francisco Leal

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

You can play whatever you want, it will sound fatastic, without any problem i mounted them in about 5 minutes, and they were ready. The output is so high that when you press a note, it will sound without picking it. Amazing Palm Mute and harmonics, same as incredible cleans

      Blazing

      By JBranch

      from Warner Robins, GA

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I recently installed this in my American Strat. The bridge single-coil was just a little too tinny for me, so I looked for a replacement and after reading reviews and listening to clips of it, I ended up choosing this pickup. I was originally a little skeptical, but after wiring it up and restringing, I was amazed at the power of this humbucker- it really IS a humbucker, just in a smaller shape. It's HOT, blazing, firebreathing... now my Strat can easily cover anything from bluesy stuff to METAL. It really is a great pickup. SD does it again.

      Powerfull!!

      By Mark

      from Rockfall, CT

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I just put this pickup in the bridge of my American Standard Strat. All I can say is WOW what an amazing sounding pickup. I can get those nice heavy chunky rythyms and soaring solos. And it doesn't sound too bad clean either. If you can - wire this up so you can use your tone with the pickup this will give you so many more options for your sound.

      This pickup scorches

      By Mike

      from Philly, Pa

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I had the good luck of buying a mexi strat with one of these already installed. The tone of this pickup in even something unassuming as a three color sunburst strat made it a vicious tone machine. I worked at Ibanez at the time, and this cheap Strat with a minor pickup addition would absolutely lay waste to some $1200 Ibanez Jem. No Joke, Hot Rails are the real deal. I'm gonna buy a cheap Squier and drop one of these in the bridge. It's like instant Iron Maiden, with wicked harmonics. Buy this pickup.
