A Very Hot Pickup!!!

By Jaybo377

from Prestonsburg, KY

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I dropped a Seymour Duncan Shr-1 Hot Rail in my strat and saw a big improvement. This pickup gave me all of the sustain I could handle. The single coils that came in my strat just didn't give me the overdrive I needed. A humbucker that drops right into a single coil slot is the only way to go. I dropped it in my strat in about 10 minutes and it was ready to go. This pickup is awesome for lead work.

Perfect affordable upgrade

By EvanA3546

from California

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

This thing is pretty nice! First of all it sounds great, gives you great sustain and a lot more presence than most stock single coil pickups, and humbucking of course for an affordable price. I'm using this in a standard mexi strat, it's the perfect afforable upgrade if you are looking for a more "beefy pickup" single coil slot upgrade. I recommend putting this into the bridge position of a strat, you'll need to cut away a little bit of the pick gaurd (it's a little bigger than the standard slot). Did i mention it also looks AWESOME, and being a rock guitarist, everything has to look cool. :) WELL worth the purchase.

Hot Rails Rock!

By Henry

from Boulder, CO

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

Just upgraded my son's MIM Fat Strat with an SHR-1N (hot rails neck) to complement the SD JB in the bridge position. The MIM Strat has proved to be an great platform to build on, and the Hot Rails in the neck position really screams while providing excellent definition and clarity. Whether he's using the increased output to over drive his tube amp, grabbing some pinch harmonics, or playing clean, the hot rails pickup delivers a dramatic improvement in sound quality and dynamics.

What an upgrade!

By TJ07043

from Montclair, NJ

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I cannot imagine a better upgrade for the money. I have a recent vintage American Standard Strat and, although I've always been a Fender guy, didn't use the bridge pup much - didn't really care for the sound. On a recommendation, I dropped one of these SD hotrails in there - what did I have to lose? - and it literally transformed the guitar! Sustain, bite, grit - very much like and LP, but in a Strat body! And, since the American Standard has a 5-way switch, I'm blending the SD in on two out five settings. The best $ I've ever spent on anything related to a guitar. I can't recommend it highly enough!

HotRailed right into the wall!

By austin

from Independence, Missouri

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I put one of these in a project strat two summers ago. the add is right. its extremely high output. it puts you in the unique position of having a humbucker that sounds like a humbucker, but also manages to keep the guitar sounding like a strat. its super-hot. and super-loud. but the best part? its SILENT! there isn't even a shadow of a hint of a buzz coming from this thing. only very rarely do i even hear the 60 cycle hum from the amp! it was an easy install, and the directions were very clear. unless you're crazy, buy this pickup.

This pickup scorches

By Mike

from Philly, Pa

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I had the good luck of buying a mexi strat with one of these already installed. The tone of this pickup in even something unassuming as a three color sunburst strat made it a vicious tone machine. I worked at Ibanez at the time, and this cheap Strat with a minor pickup addition would absolutely lay waste to some $1200 Ibanez Jem. No Joke, Hot Rails are the real deal. I'm gonna buy a cheap Squier and drop one of these in the bridge. It's like instant Iron Maiden, with wicked harmonics. Buy this pickup.

Tone, or Power?

By Mark

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I think that is what it comes down to. If you want an ultra-power humbucker for your strat, this is it. You will get the sustain and squeals. The price you pay is tone. If you want more "umph" in your strat and you like humbucker tone, then my opinion is the JB-jr. It has more tone than the hot rails. Lastly, if you love the single coil tone but want a bit more edge, the SSL-5 is great. I find that after a few years of playing a strat, I have simply come to love single coil tone - in my opinion the best tone for a strat. I took the hot rails out and put an ssl-5 in. Can't do metal, but oh does it freakin' sound good.

    Best Uses

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I love the way Stratocasters feel and play but I'm not a fan of their jangley sound. I have owned about 5 Fender Strats over the course of few years trying to "find my tone" and I sold each and every Strat do to the way the pickups sounded.....don't get me wrong I love single coil guitars and I own several Danelectros which have phenomenal single coils that my Strats just couldn't do. I am a Stratocaster player because they just call my name and I feel they are hands down the best all around guitar out there.
I ended up finding "the one" out of all the Strats that I've owned and I simply could not sell this one so I started to do some research and I came across the SD Hot Rails.......wow what a difference this baby made for my tone! All the benefits and versatility in a Strat with a big LP humbucker sound! I need to make one thing clear..... this pick up sounds better than a stock Les Paul which I find to be way too dark, the Hot Rails will give you the treble that you need to retain your Strat sound. I installed my HR in the bridge position in about 15 minutes........Just buy it you will love it.

      Powerfull!!

      By Mark

      from Rockfall, CT

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I just put this pickup in the bridge of my American Standard Strat. All I can say is WOW what an amazing sounding pickup. I can get those nice heavy chunky rythyms and soaring solos. And it doesn't sound too bad clean either. If you can - wire this up so you can use your tone with the pickup this will give you so many more options for your sound.

      Hot Rails= Awesome

      By James

      from manassas. va

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I was having a problem with not being able to get feedback from some Fender Pickups I bought and put into my guitar. (1969 specials or something.) I just took it out, put this in. And this is hott! Its basically like having a humbucker in your guitar. (i put it in the brigde position.) i give 5 stars and i plan to replace the other 2 pickups as well. oh... PS.. the 4 conductor wiring instructions for coil tapping is really easy to read.

      Awesome Pickup

      By Alex

      from Newport Beach, CA

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

This one pickup transformed my strat into a screaming metal machine. In all seriousness, this one upgrade changed my strat from a guitar I never played to one of my favorites. In fact, I liked it so much I changed out the other two "Texas Strat" pickups to Seymour duncans. If you're not getting the crunch you want from your strat, don't buy a new guitar, just drop a Hot Rails pickup in the bridge position.

      Perfect Bluessy Guitar Solo

      By Carlos F. Palma C.

      from Panama, Panama

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

You won't beleive the difference between the Hot Rail for Neck and the one for bridge until you hear it by yourself. I had the one for the bridge in my neck position looking for a Dave Murray guitar solo sound but finally I bought the Hot Rail for neck position, what a difference! Very deep sound, great sustain, very sweet sound. This pickup can inspire great solos like the ones in Iron Maiden songs. The Hot Rail for bridge is now my middle pickup and it works perfect. I installed it on my Fat Black Fender Strat so no need to make a bigger hole since it has the right single coil size! If you are ready to rock, try this Hot Rails and move on!

      Blow Minds

      By Noah

      from Ringgold, GA

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I replaced my neck and bridge pickups with these to get a better distortion sound, and they blew my expectations through the roof. They also have a sick blues sound on low distortion and the clean channel. I would choose these over any other brand.

      Blazing

      By JBranch

      from Warner Robins, GA

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I recently installed this in my American Strat. The bridge single-coil was just a little too tinny for me, so I looked for a replacement and after reading reviews and listening to clips of it, I ended up choosing this pickup. I was originally a little skeptical, but after wiring it up and restringing, I was amazed at the power of this humbucker- it really IS a humbucker, just in a smaller shape. It's HOT, blazing, firebreathing... now my Strat can easily cover anything from bluesy stuff to METAL. It really is a great pickup. SD does it again.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

You can play whatever you want, it will sound fatastic, without any problem i mounted them in about 5 minutes, and they were ready. The output is so high that when you press a note, it will sound without picking it. Amazing Palm Mute and harmonics, same as incredible cleans

      Not for me

      By Joe Meshkoff

      from Tacoma, Wa

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

For what it's designed for it works great. I put one of these in the bridge position of my American Strat and I got the instant crunch I was looking for. The downside for me was loosing that great tone you get with the bridge/middle pickups selected. Either clean or with a little dirt it just doesn't sound good to me. This is my first Strat and after 4 years I guess I have grown to like the single coil sounds I was getting. I'm looking at the Area 61 now with the Eric Johnson wiring and that should get me to that dirty heavy blues on the verge of meal sound I'm searching for while retaining the Strat character. If you're looking to crunch-ify a Strat this is for you, very heavy on the mids but it does what it's designed to do.

Great pickup, but not for me

      By Luis Marquez

      from Miami, Fl

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I got a used guitar with this pickup in the bridge position, and it sounds great with any kind of distortion that you put on it. The only problem that I find with it is that it gives a really dirty and muddled clean tone, but that's just me. I like to play a lot of RHCP and it doesn't really mix well with that style

      Great Upgrade!

      By RiffShredder

      from Medford, Or

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I've got an american deluxe strat and I enjoy playing classic rock, and some "hair metal". The stock pickups as most know just don't pack the power to really show how many different types of sounds these great guitars can make. They're real clean on the bottom and scream like a (you know) on the top. Give a little distortion and experience the highest tonal quality overdive achievable. Even with heay-heavy distortion you can clearly hear the notes, not just noise. Great Upgrade!!!

      Best thing ever!

      By Erwin E.

      from Paramount, ca

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

I've had my Squire strat for about a decade with the same low quality pickups. It didn't have any response. When I changed my bridge pickup with a SHR-1, it turned into a whole new guitar. This is great for distortion and for a high glassy clean sound.

      WOW!!!

      By Uncle Don

      from Fairport, NY

Comments about Seymour Duncan SHR-1 Hot Rails Single-Coil Sized Humbucker Pickup:

So I wired one of these into the lead position of my Ibanez Gio today. It was a bit trickey, as Ibanez style pickups screw into the body as opposed to the pickguard mount Strat style. Had to use the original screws and spend a few minutes leveling and adjusting the height, but it was worth it. With the 5 way switch in the lead position it give a hot and full Gilmour-ish sound. In the second position, it has the most awesome jangle, like U2's "Desire" (and that's without any effects!). This is one awesome pickup!!!
