I own an Epiphone Les Paul Standard and i quickly realised that the sound coming off of the pickups tended to get muddled when playing chords. Since I'm on a budget ,when I noticed these, I had to get them. Don't be fooled by the low price when compared to Gibson pickups. This set rocks! When I first played my guitar after having the pickups changed I immediately noticed a difference. Chords sound much cleaner, even with distorion, and solos sound wicked! Don't expect a miracle though these can't totally trasform a guitar but for my epi they worked great.

I thought these would be versatile enough to be able to switch between clean and heavy distortion...not the case. They are better than the stock musicman pickups in my sub1 but get muddy when playing leads with distortion. I have had the pearly gates p/u before and they are twice the pickup. The stock duncan designed pickups on my Schecter C1+ where better than these!

Comments about Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set:

Simply awesome. Duncan provides excellent wiring diagrams for about any signal path configuration. I used the 2 humbucker/2 volume/2 tone/3-way switch with tone control coil split diagram for this install and everything was perfect upon first try. I now have a very articulate PRS SE Tremonti where, before the install, the stock pickups were OK but very vanilla. The guitar body (mahogany) already has good sonic qualities and these new pickups allow it to sing as never before. Great snarl, harmonics, and drive from the bridge pickup (SH4). The neck pickup (SH2n) provides great clarity and responsiveness when I'm clunking away on rhythm parts. Roll off the tone a little for jazz riffs and there's a very nice sweetness that I couldn't get with the old pickups. Pulling up on either tone pot just extends the tonal variety beyond my capacity to explore, at the moment - still having too much fun getting to know the full humbucker tones. With one or both pickups split, I was happily surprised to hear no significant hum, unless I put the guitar very close (i.e., inches) to my amp. I'm very impressed and halo with this upgrade!

Comments about Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set:

Been playing for about 30 years now and as a tech junkie/electrical engineer I've tried about 20 pickups through all my guitars. This is definitely the best all around pickup out there. Has a balanced tone and seems to have good frequency response. Provides a very natural authentic sound , especially considering i replaced EMGs with these in an ESP LTD1000 (les paul copy).

I think these favor the rock musician a tad more due to the gain of the pickup and the harmonic reproduction. But these can easily be tailored for blues and jazz with amplifier settings.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set:

These humbuckers dropped cleanly in my PRS SE 245. Really love the sound. I play a lot of classic rock, hard rock, and some metal. The guitar now easily handles them all. Wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.

I'm building an 'SG' Style Double Neck Electric from a kit. The pick-ups that came with the kit are junk, so I went for Humbuckers. I'm documenting the build andwe'll see what happens!

Comments about Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set:

My shrink tells me I'm exhibiting signs of a midlife crisis, and rather than buying a Porsche or having an affair, I've decided to upgrade my music gear and do more playing and recording. My guitar is an SX Deimos, which is an LP knockoff, but it's got good bones; mahogany body, flamed maple top, etc. The stock pickups were EMG Selects, which were in desperate need of being upgraded. Enter the SD Hot Rodded Humbucker Set. I play mostly rock, punk and metal, and the bridge pickup gives me the gain that type of playing demands, while the Jazz neck pickup makes clean tones sound buttery smooth. I had a roller bridge and Bigsby tremolo installed at the same time, and I am just tickled by what looks, feels, and most importantly sounds like a brand new guitar.

Great quality pickups at a reasonable price. They can play any genre from twang country to heavy metal. The sh-2 is great Clapton and Hendrix style leads. The jb sh-4 is great for high gain rock like Metallica, AC DC, Pantera, etc. Good replacement pickups for the muddy stock pickups on my Epiphone SG.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker Set:

I have a Gibson RD Standard. Many years ago while I was playing in a hard rock band I had the stock Gibson pickups replaced with EMG active pickups. They were the schiznit back then. As years went by I found I could not get the tone I was looking for with the EMGs. I never did get the Gibson pickups back. Fast forward many years to about 6 months ago, I wanted to put Gibson pickups back in so that I could sell this guitar. The tech at Guitar Center recommended the Seymour Duncan pickups as being less expensive and better sounding for the music I am playing now. More blues and classic rock. These pickups give me every sound I need. Nice deep and sparkling cleans, great crunch and superior distorted tones. As soon as I came home after having them installed, I plugged in and fell in love with my guitar all over again. Needless to say I did not sell the RD. I would recommend these pickups to anyone. If you need a less expensive way to make your less expensive guitar sound great I would give these a try. It's cheaper than a new guitar.

I have been a fan of Gibson Pickups and almost didn't change the BBPro's that came on my all Mahogany Les Paul Faded Cherry that my wife picked up for me a few years back. Once I got them wired to the PCB and set up. Man, I liked it before but everything rounded out and came alive like I never knew possible from any of my guitars. Very Cool and I can understand why they are Seymour's Favorites. Everything I do is hotter, rounder and so much more full. I really like how I can back the nobs off and the sound really cleans up without loosing that ring. This set Hot Rodded and really cleans up nice and for my taste of Gritty Blues (ZZTop) and Classic Rock (Zep)and has the Big Balls needed to dig into some AC-DC. Now it is time to get new pots and loose the 300k PCB that Gibson should be ashamed of. I am now a fan of Seymour Duncan Pickups
