I own an Epiphone Les Paul Standard and i quickly realised that the sound coming off of the pickups tended to get muddled when playing chords. Since I'm on a budget ,when I noticed these, I had to get them. Don't be fooled by the low price when compared to Gibson pickups. This set rocks! When I first played my guitar after having the pickups changed I immediately noticed a difference. Chords sound much cleaner, even with distorion, and solos sound wicked! Don't expect a miracle though these can't totally trasform a guitar but for my epi they worked great.

I thought these would be versatile enough to be able to switch between clean and heavy distortion...not the case. They are better than the stock musicman pickups in my sub1 but get muddy when playing leads with distortion. I have had the pearly gates p/u before and they are twice the pickup. The stock duncan designed pickups on my Schecter C1+ where better than these!

These SD's got Big Balls

By Dean Drake

from Willoughby, Oh

I have been a fan of Gibson Pickups and almost didn't change the BBPro's that came on my all Mahogany Les Paul Faded Cherry that my wife picked up for me a few years back. Once I got them wired to the PCB and set up. Man, I liked it before but everything rounded out and came alive like I never knew possible from any of my guitars. Very Cool and I can understand why they are Seymour's Favorites. Everything I do is hotter, rounder and so much more full. I really like how I can back the nobs off and the sound really cleans up without loosing that ring. This set Hot Rodded and really cleans up nice and for my taste of Gritty Blues (ZZTop) and Classic Rock (Zep)and has the Big Balls needed to dig into some AC-DC. Now it is time to get new pots and loose the 300k PCB that Gibson should be ashamed of. I am now a fan of Seymour Duncan Pickups

5 Star's+

By Ty Schultz _

from Findlay,Ohio

In 2007 I Lost all my gear, the only thing that was saved was my Ibanez rg320 floating down the hallway in it's hardshell case like a boat ~ 5 years later I figured it deservse a overhaul it was me this guitar & the cloths on my back ,Back then. So after doing some research I was dead set on this set for her. So Off to GC I went in Holland Ohio,(Toledo)I talked to Jimmey at the tech shop there & he confirmed that these would do what I was looking for after I informed him (I wanted versatilty). After picking it up and getting home I plugged into a 18 year old Laney Linebacker 30 watt 30pul/out. I was shocked this package was more than I ever thought it would be. So I packed it up & went to the practice hall I was there for 5 hours playing through a 6505+ Peavey Head & Cabs that come with the Half stack here at GC ,Since then 3 days later = ) I havent used another guitar in my collection & Floaty (her old name) Is now named Tess (after my late father (His initials TES)... Jimmey at (GC Tech Shop) GC isnt just a Tech he's a Artise (Give him a RAISE)For breathing new life into a dead guitar with pure Craftmanship. This 16 year Old Ibanez GR320 is hands down the Best weapon in my Collection, From Les Pauls,Deans,Fenders & Other Ibanez's,this Old RG320 by far is my Favorite in Tone, reation, sustain, versitality you name it Thanks to these Pickups !!! I will be Changing a couple other guitars over to this set !!!!!!!

Great pickups!!!

By JEREMY JACKSON

from Frankfort, KY

I have a set of these and a set of 59's and they're both great sets. The neck pick up has a nice warm sound to it while the bridge really cooks. Great for blues, classic and hard rock. I put these and the 59 set in my epiphone les pauls, so if your looking to improve your affordable guitar get some duncans.

The End Of The Search.

By stephen hamady

from Montgomery, Alabama

I've gone through 6 different pickup configurations looking for tones that I needed. I put the Hot Rodded set in a PRS custom with Ernie Ball Cobalt, heavy bottom/skinny top two days ago and got way more than I ever expected. The Jazz in the neck is super rich and warm with hugely hollow mids and perfectly balanced clarity. The JB in the bridge has allowed me to get the perfect distortion. I used to have to drive my gain to 8.5-9, with a presence of 7-8, Lows set to 8, Mids around4.5-5, and Highs at 6-7 to achieve the full, over driven tones I wanted with sufficient sustain. This often sounded buzzy and left higher notes mudded under when played in conjunction with a heavy and thick bottom end. With the JB I can back my gain back to 5 presence to 6, which adds a ton of clarity to the highs, also the JB produces beautiful high end with little to no "tinty" sound. With a thick, clear, and chunky bottom on the JB along with clear and untinty highs. The beautiful, rich, full, and clear sounds from the Jazz these pick ups are what I've been looking for, for a long time and I'd recommend them to everyone.

AWESOME PICKUPS!!

By Danny K.

from Roy, UT

I bought this set for my Ibanez RG120 because I loved the sound and I loved how deep my stock was at the neck, but I wanted that sound and be able to do pinch harmonics with it. I was recommended these by the Repair Shop man and after I got them installed I instantly fell in love with my Ibanez again. The bridge is deeper sounding then my old neck and the harmonics are great. In distortion it's an amazing attack, but in clean they sound nice and warm. I recommend these to any guitar player that is tired of their stocks.

Very Versatile!

By Stephen Marshall

from Newnan, GA

I put these pickups in a Les Paul copy I was building. The guitar is solid alder with a set neck made of hard maple. I originally had some pickups from a PRS but wasn't happy with the tone. I put these in and what a difference they made! The guitar really woke up! The JB bridge pickup is very bright and punchy with a lot of mids and highs but the low end is still very chunky. The highs border on harsh on certain settings but just roll back the treble a bit and you are all set. The sustain is incredible. I was looking for a "Dookie" era Green Day sound and this hits it perfectly...but with a few amp adjustments you can play anything from shred to metal to classic rock. I play thru a Roland Cube 30X and there are so many tones you can pull off. The Jazz pickup in the neck sounds as smooth as butter. Very warm acoustic sounds without harsh highs or booming bass. Played on the Roland Jazz Chorus setting the sound is crystal clear and every note is well defined. Add some distortion and you can get amazing classic rock tones like Brian May/Queen or Eric Clapton w/Cream. Blues solos are warm and rich with a good bite and like the JB the Jazz pickup sustain is endless. I love the pickup set so much I'm debating replacing the Seymour Duncan Invader I put in my Ibanez with the JB. Totally recommend these pickups!

HALLELUJAH

By Mike Glasser

from Stanton, NJ

About two years ago I became a proud owner of an Epiphone G-310 SG. I noticed that my sound wasn't the same. It sounded like I was taking a hammer and just smashing the strings into the pickup, however; that night when I got back home I didn't notice it. Then a week later I went out for the day. Turns out I left a window open and my guitar got soaked. My pickups were shot. I packed the guitar up and under my bed it went until January. That's when my friend sent me this exact link with these pickups on it. They seemed to be liked by a lot of people so I decided to buy them. Thank God. I love them. These pickups sound fifty times better than the previous ones I had in it. Not only that, but now when I play live I get the same amazing tone that I hear back in my room. Matched with Seymour Duncan TS-2s Triple Shot Mounting Rings, these pickups are the best one's you'll find at this low price. I play everything from Ludwig von Beethoven to Necrophagist on these and I can get every sound I need out of these two pickups.

The JB's a winner, but the Jazz....

By Tyler

from chandler, arizona

i bought this expecting so much based on the reviews and the descriptions, but i was slightly disappointed. i love the JB pickup, it sounds great for any amount of distortion and even sounds pretty good clean. but i dont really like the jazz pickup. on clean it can sound okay at best, then i threw just a little distortion on hoping to get a bluesy sound and was taken aback. it was awful. there was no defintion to the notes at all and everything turned muddy and gross sounding. it doesnt sound like a neck pickup even. the best way i can describe it is that it sounds like a warmer than average bridge pup, but put in the neck by mistake. so overall i guess this combo is kind of okay, if you want nothing but clean on the neck and ALL of your distortion in the bridge. but honestly i would not recomend this to anyone wanting a versatile combo. youd be better off doing what i did afterward and putting a '59 in the neck.

I'm a believer now !

By BDRocker

from Destin, FL

Five months ago, I've replaced the stock PU of my PRS Tremonti SE with this pair, and it's history. Wiring and soldering is easy, I did it myself. The sound and tone coming out of this is heaven ! It makes me play and jam for hours. Distortion and sustain are amazing with these pick-ups. Don't believe the negative review from other people here, this pair can do all types of music, it just depends on how your guitar playing skills really is. Seymour Duncan products are top of the line, this Hotrodded is no exception. This pair can match up with other "elite" humbuckers out there. Prove these "non-believers" wrong, see it for yourself. You'll be happy with this purchase.
