Just swap your volume pot with a Blackouts Modular Preamp. It combines the high-output, low-noise Blackouts preamp with a quality volume pot and the Liberator Solderless Pickup Change System for quick connections. Get your own sound-with your own look.

The genre-defining crunch and wail of modern heavy rock guitar often comes from active guitar pickups, which have a built-in, battery-powered preamp epoxy-sealed into a stark black casing. It's a distinctly modern sound married to a patently modern look.

Seymour Duncan has taken its award-winning, low-noise Blackouts balanced differential preamp out of the pickup and integrated it with a high-quality volume pot. Blackouts Modular Preamp is an ingenious way to get that high-gain, active guitar sound with any passive four-conductor pickup. Simply by swapping a volume pot for a Blackouts Modular Preamp volume pot, you can get active pickup performance with a more classic look.

To capture the precise tone and performance of Original Blackouts pickups, Seymour Duncan created the specially voiced Blackouts Coil Pack, a replacement humbucker designed specifically for use with the Blackouts Modular Preamp.

Connecting the Coil Pack to Blackouts Modular Preamp is an incredibly simple, solderless procedure, thanks to the same bare-wire Lockdown connector stations used in the Seymour Duncan Liberator Solderless Pickup Change System. Installing pickups only requires a mini-screwdriver to secure pickup and battery leads into the rock-solid screw-clamp connectors.

  • Includes Blackouts Modular Preamp and 2 special low-noise humbucker pickups
  • Liberator Solderless Pickup Change System
  • Distinctly modern sound
One year replacement warranty on all pickups.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Blackouts Modular Coil Pack/Preamp Set:

i wanted the blackouts active sound but not spend active money and this was IT. its not 100% blackouts but with out a 9v what could you expect? with the coil pack its ALL blackouts unique sound but 85%active sound 15%passive sound. which is great for recording and warm speedy leads. if you get curious to try other pickups. go with a medium output pup with some bite. or an alnico high output. ceramic is ok but the cleans distort VERY LITTLE and the harmoncis are muffled a bit. this is good with coil pack combo or medium output dimarzio. if you just like the solderless system of it all the LIBERATOR IS AMAZING i personally love being able to buy all the pickups and test them on all my guitars and assign them one by one searching for my own metal sound

Pickups are really good, the preamp is not

Comments about Seymour Duncan Blackouts Modular Coil Pack/Preamp Set:

I installed this Seymour Duncan Blackouts Modular Coil Pack/Preamp system on my Gibson LP. Long story short, the pickups with the preamp installed together sound really good on distortion, loud, tons of gain. But when I play it clean it sounds way too fuzzy, impossible to get a clean sound, even if I turn down the volume knob. I found a trick to solve this problem. The pickups themselves can be set passive or active. With the preamp installed it needs to be set active, without the preamp you can use your original pots and instal the pickups as passive and in my case they ended up sounding great. Nice passive tone on clean & also an overwound hot active sounding gain on distortion. The problem is that I spent unnessessary money on a useless preamp.
The Blackout pickups sound great, but the preamp featrue is way too powerful on clean. It sounds too fuzzy and it's impossible to get a clean sound out of it. Just instal the pickups with your original pots and keep it passive, believe me it will still have that active sound. Don't suggest you don't bother with the preamp.
I love the quality of the pickups. They look great on my LP Axcess
I'm pretty satisfied with the pickups. They sound great the way I installed them as passive instead of active. But since only half of this system works properly I'm gonna have to rate this product as a 5. That preamp just didn't cut it for me, it was a waste of money and Seymour Duncun over did it with this preamp. It gives a new meaning to the term "Less is More". But that's just me though, your ears are different then mine.

Very impressive pickups

Comments about Seymour Duncan Blackouts Modular Coil Pack/Preamp Set:

Very versitile. You get that classic look of an opencoil and the punch from a passive pickup, with the volume and immaculate clarity and gain from an active pickup. Just from a turn on the volume knob you can get a passive sound on volume #7, and an extremely high gain and powerful sound on volume #10. Thank you Seymore Duncan for producing these. They will soon be in all of my guitars
I recently installed these pickups on my Gibson Les Paul Axcess. They are very versitile when it comes to the gain and volume. On clean setting they have a very impressive clarity to them. Even though they're active you can get a really clear and passive tone from them when you have the volume at around 7, turn it up to 10 then you'll get that active tone as well. That's what I mean about the versitillity of these pickups, that preamp gives you the best of both active and passive, and they don't sound compressed at all like EMG's. No exaggiration, I'm being sincere. Not to mention that they are LOUD! On distortion they are very very loud and put out a lot of gain man. These pickups are rockers. I really recomend them. I'm going to install them in all of my electric guitars.
Awesome quality. They Seymore Duncans for crying out loud.
Some may disagree, but I give them a 10
