Pulverizing sound!

By

from Florida

Comments about Seymour Duncan AHB-3 Mick Thomson EMTY - Signature Blackouts Active Humbucker Set:

I just bought these pickups and had them installed into my LTD KH-202. I play it through a Line 6 Spider IV 120Watt, when I plugged this guitar in I immediately noticed the change in sound from the stock ESP pickups in it previously. To describe the change, it's like going from a 240p video to a 1080i HD video. I started playing every Slipknot riff I knew and these pickups truly do give you Mick's tone. The high notes are defined, clear, and ring out. The bottom end is beastly and tight, every note is heavy and sounds organic, natural, thick, and clear. Pinch harmonics are a breeze now, they all ring out as they should. The cleans on these are as clean as you get, they are clear and have a huge tone. These pickups exceeded my expectations in sound, they are worth every penny I saved for these. The quality will blow you away and your neighbors. Also to note, these aren't your average active pickups. They sound totally different from other active pickups, they sound miles better. You can play anything on these, I was able to play some blues licks and clean stuff and they still performed great. If you are like me and like to play in low tunings, these are perfect. If you want Mick's tone then this is a must have.

SD Blackouts EMTY in Ibanez MTM2

By

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Seymour Duncan AHB-3 Mick Thomson EMTY - Signature Blackouts Active Humbucker Set:

I have been interested in playing some active pickups for years and recently bought an MTM2 that I though should have them. I've always been a fan of high gain passive pickups and have been aware of how sterile active pickups can sound. Even my guitar tech who said he's never liked actives said these were definitely something different! These give you the ultra high gain only an active pickup with an onboard preamp can give you, but with the organic balanced mids and warmth of a high gain passive pickup. The tone differences between the neck and bridge are most noticeable on a clean channel, but this bridge pickup on a lead channel will literally shatter all the glass in your home. I was on the fence between these Blackout EMTYs and the classic EMG 81/85 combo. I'm glad I'm playing the Blackouts now!

Comments about Seymour Duncan AHB-3 Mick Thomson EMTY - Signature Blackouts Active Humbucker Set:

Bought these pickups and put them in my ibanez rg 4 and it sounds so crisp on clear effects and on overdrive unless you have your distortion maxed there is no feedback through them. only problem is there pricey to have them installed if you dont know how to.

Surprisingly Good Tone!

By

from Redlands, CA

Comments about Seymour Duncan AHB-3 Mick Thomson EMTY - Signature Blackouts Active Humbucker Set:

I installed these in my Gibson Explorer Pro (which previously had bluesbuckers) which I tune down to standard C. Prior to changing the pickups, when I would try to play low thirds, the lower pitch would wash the other notes out (which was the reason I changed out the pickups in the first place.) So I bought these hoping to God that they would sound decent and, to my surprise, they sound pretty amazing! They are slightly more high-gain than most pickups i have, but the main difference is that (as advertised) the bass is very tight. The highs are brought up considerably from the bluesbuckers but not to the point of sounding tinny and grating. So when you're playing in a dropped tuning at a high level of distortion you'll be very clear instead of washing out. They will distort a bit on your clean tone, but all you have to do is roll back on the volume and you're perfectly clean. They aren't very heavy (though the addition of the 9-volt is a little irritating and you may have to route out your guitar if there isn't enough room in your electronics compartment), they look rad and sound great. So for the money and if you're using them in the right application, I'm sure they'll sound great!

PUT'S OTHER PICKUPS TO SHAME!!!

By

from Victorville, CA

Comments about Seymour Duncan AHB-3 Mick Thomson EMTY - Signature Blackouts Active Humbucker Set:

So I'm a tone freak, After 3 years of truly searching I'm happy. These pickups are just MAGIC. It does exactly what it describes. I've owned seymour duncan Invaders, and dime buckers as well as a JB all in the bridge position. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG with this pickup! I play in Drop C, All of the articulation really cuts through, It's sound is FULL. As far as cleans go, they're crisp and warm. The leads are AMAZING! It just has a real PROFESSIONAL sound! What's the downside? Haven't found one =) There's just too much to say about it, I'll probably post a video on youtube soon so look out for that if you want to HEAR the review!
