Until now, if you wanted humbucker, P-90, and vintage Strat tones, you'd have to haul three guitars to the gig but that was before the Seymour Duncan SHPR-1 P-Rails pickups. P-Rails feature a ground breaking, patent pending design allows a full-size humbucker to split to either a real deal P-90 or a traditional single coil. Perfect for a wide variety of styles including country, pop, surf, jazz, blues, classic rock, and heavy rock.
The humbucker sound is full and expansive, owing to the mismatched coil configuration. The P-90 pickup is a super fat. And the Rail coils, when used together, sound like the 2 and 4 "in-between" positions in a great Strat.
P-Rails can be used in any guitar set up for a traditional humbucker or Trembucker. A single P-Rails will bring added dimension to your guitar sound. However, to optimize the unique splitting capabilities and get the best single-coil Rails tones from your Seymour Duncan pickup, use a neck and bridge set.
To get both humbucker and P-90 tones, use a two-way switch (push-pull or mini-toggle). To have humbucker and P-90 tones and bring in the added dimension of the single-coil Rail, use a three-way switch (DPDT on-off-on).

I ordered a set of these for my Les Paul Classic & love 'em.I've been typically only using the bridge as a humbucker, but the neck is almost a necessity now for my LP's.I do wish they made them with covers though. Between using the 4 neck options & using them in conjunction with a bridge humbucker it adds a whole new world of tones to a LP,yet still gives you the classic humbucker LP tones. The neck P-90 sounds fantastic & the single coil combined w/ bridge HB is great to.Some people seem to complain about the single coil not being hot enough, but to me thats even better because now I get great clean tones as well.I definitely recommend getting the Triple-Shot mounting rings for these also since it gives you all the configurations & requires no drilling or push/pull pots,so it's easily reversible if you don't like 'em.My only regret is that I bought a set instead of a few neck p/u's for several guitars because now Ive got to order a few more for some of my other LP's.
these pickups are great, dont listen to bitter people who dont have soldering abilities.
the rails sound is a tad weak. so just turn it up.
each setting sounds good. the PAF setting sounds wonderful, and the p-90 sounds good too...as it should it is a p90 pickup.
as i said the single coil isnt as hot, youll have o adjust...if you dont like it you can spend another $500 and buy an entirely different strat, but the idea here is versatility. turning the volume knob a little is worth saving $500, right?
you might have to have a pro install these, the wiring is tricky for a novice, it took me all damn day.
but now i have an exceptionally versatile guitar that can be a strat, an sg, and a les paul special.
you can put these into a low cost guitar and make it 10 times better.
I have a set of these and I have tried all the options available. The best sounds is to get the Seymour Triple shot mounting ring and reverse the pickups like the Rails further apart and the P90 closer together.
When you use the Rails together you get an almost Tele or Gretch type of sound. These are the most versatile pickups for a giging musician if you have to bring only 1 guitar!
