A full-size humbucker that splits to either a full-size P-90, or a special Alnico-powered single-coil Rail pickup.

Until now, if you wanted humbucker, P-90, and vintage Strat tones, you'd have to haul three guitars to the gig. But that was before the Seymour Duncan SHPR-1 P-Rails pickups. P-Rails feature a ground breaking, patent pending design allows a full-size humbucker to split to either a real deal P-90 or a traditional single-coil. Perfect for a wide variety of styles including country, pop, surf, jazz, blues, classic rock, and heavy rock.

The humbucker sound is full and expansive, owing to the mis-matched coil configuration. The P-90 is a super fat. And the Rail coils, when used together, sound like the 2 and 4 "in-between" positions in a great Strat.

P-Rails can be used in any guitar set up for a traditional humbucker or Trembucker. A single P-Rails will bring added dimension to your guitar sound. However, to optimize the unique splitting capabilities and get the best single-coil Rails tones, use a neck and bridge set.

To get both humbucker and P-90 tones, use a two-way switch (push-pull or mini-toggle). To have humbucker and P-90 tones and bring in the added dimension of the single-coil Rail guitar pickup, use a three-way switch (DPDT on-off-on).

  • R-Rails Rock!!!

    As reviewed by P-Rails R 4 Me on 12/22/2009

I just installed a P-Rail in the bridge (59' humbucker in the neck) in my Ibanez Artcore Hollowbody and wow. I mean WOW! I love these pick-ups! I used the Seymour Duncan TS-1 mounting ring switch for the installation and they work great together. I am now planning on swithcing out the stock USA Fender neck/middle pick-ups and previously installed "Pearly Gates" humbucker in my USA Stratocaster for 2 P-Rails (neck & bridge).

  • The right choice!

This was the first step in upgrading my Epi Dot Studio. My "guitar guy" Mark at the N Charlotte store suggested one of these. I ordered the bridge p'up and ended up putting it in the neck position. Right now it's only wired for either the humbucker or the P90. Later, when I have the other one installed I'll do the full wiring for all the options. I play mostly through a Vox AC4C1-Bl, and let me tell you, this is one versatile pickup. There is a clear difference in the two modes, each of them really nice. The humbucker pairs nicely with the Epi bridge p'up, the P90 does too. The SD as a humbucker alone is warm but not muddy, and the P90 alone has a distinct sound. This pickup breaks up nicely, a little sooner than the stock Epi Alnico Classic did, a little hotter I think. I'm really looking forward to completing the upgrade with a second SHPR-1N, installing a second coil-splitting tone knob and a three way mini-switch to make full use of the options. The guitar tech at N Charlotte, Daniel, did a great job with the installation, so thanks to him too!

  • a pickup that makes ever sound!!!

As reviewed by Nixon'sNightmare69 on 7/7/2011

i coil split this pickup and put it on a on/off/on pot and i put on my overdrive and i can go from Red Hot Chili Peppers_Under the Bridge with the single coil, to Led Zepplin_Indian Song on the P90, to Black Sabbath_Into the Void with a button press/push. Alice in Chains, Modest Mouse, Guns n Roses to BB King. You can play it all on this pickup. I use it on my Gibson Les Paul Jr. that I have been working on for several weeks. This pickup works great for single humbucker guitars. Be warned if you want a warmer tone get the neck pickup, the bridge pickup has more dirt on it, however reacts better to overdrive and distortion
