The 7-string Seymour Duncan Custom 5 SH-14 humbucker offers a redesign of one of Duncan's most popular electric guitar pickups. Seymour Duncan released the Custom 5 SH-14 specifically to capture the deeper tones and wider sound range found in the new generation of 7-stringed guitars.
The 6-string version of the Custom 5 pickup was developed in part by contributors on the Seymour Duncan web forum who replaced the magnets in their Custom or Custom Custom pickups with Alnico 5 magnets. Compared to Seymour Duncan's SH-5 and SH-11, the Custom 5 pickup's tone is more vintage, with less distortion—but it's still very strong and powerful. Clean sounds are rich and full with enhanced presence. Seymour Duncan includes a 4-conductor hookup cable to make the 7-string Custom 5 SH-14 humbucker easy to install.
The versatile 7-string Custom 5 humbucker offers moderate to high output and deeper bottom end with expanded output that make it perfect for pop, country, blues, classic rock, and heavy rock. Duncan recommends the Custom 5 SH-14 for the bridge position. Add a Seymour Duncan SH-1n 7-string pickup (sold separately) in the neck position for real-deal P.A.F. tones.
