Get the extreme gain of active pickups-with any pickup.

The Seymour Duncan Blackouts Modular Preamp turns your passive pickups into high-output active flame throwers.

If you love the sound of active pickups but want to try it with a different look, Seymour Duncan has an ingenious solution. Blackouts Modular Preamp takes the preamp out of the pickups and integrates it with the volume pot. Now you can make any passive pickup with four-conductor cable an active pickup.

The Blackouts Modular Preamp means you can get that high-gain, low-noise Blackouts sound with a vintage looking guitar-like a classic hot rod with a souped-up engine under the hood. You can use it with any passive pickup.

Just swap your volume pot with a Blackouts Modular Preamp. It combines the high-output, low-noise Blackouts preamp with a quality volume pot and the Liberator Solderless Pickup Change System for quick connections.

The genre-defining crunch and wail of modern heavy rock guitar often comes from active guitar pickups, which have a built-in, battery-powered preamp epoxy-sealed into a stark black casing. It's a distinctly modern sound married to a patently modern look. Now, for the first time, you can make any pickup an active pickup, even pickups with a more traditional look.

Seymour Duncan has taken its award-winning, low-noise Blackouts balanced differential preamp out of the pickup and integrated it with a high-quality volume pot. Blackouts Modular Preamp is an ingenious way to get that high-gain, active guitar sound with any passive four-conductor pickup. Simply by swapping a volume pot for a Blackouts Modular Preamp volume pot, you can get active pickup performance with a more classic look.

Connecting the Coil Pack or any pickup to Blackouts Modular Preamp is an incredibly simple, solderless procedure, thanks to the same bare-wire Lockdown connector stations used in the Seymour Duncan Liberator Solderless Pickup Change System. Installing pickups only requires a mini-screwdriver to secure pickup and battery leads into the rock-solid screw-clamp connectors.

  • Amazing!

I have an Ibanez rg7321 with a d-sonic in the bridge and a stock pickup in the neck. I had been thinking about getting the Blackout pickup set until i saw the blackout moduler preamp. Needless to say for the price and for what it does I bought it. My D-sonic sounds great by itself but with this thing holy Crap! The gain is ferocious i really dont need my overdrive pedal anymore and i have my 6505+ preamp gain turned to 5. for the clean channel just turn down the volume on your guitar down and you got a pretty good clean sound. i would recommend this to any body that plays hard rock or heavy metal.

  • Blackouts Preamp Module is AWESOME!!

As reviewed by BOB LATONA on 5/22/2013

I installed the Blackouts Modular Preamp into my Gibson W.R.C. Super Strat even though the Seymour Duncan tech support guy said it wouldn't work with 2 single coils and 1 humbucker because it was designed for 2 humbuckers. I wired the singles parallel and hooked up the humbucker. The Modular Preamp made my gibson as hot or hotter than my other strat (A gibson US-2 sporting active EMGs) without changing my guitars tone. Best $50.00 upgrade I have ever purchased!!!

  • great but limited

[INB4] IF YOU LIKE THE SOUND OF THE CURRENT(STOCK) PICKUP AS LONG AS ITS A LOWER OUTPUT IT WILL SOUND AMAZING the Blackouts preamp best feature shares one with the liberator, the solderless system. the idea makes it great for the players pockets and easy for a tech or sound whore to swap pickups. the second best feature is the loaded Blackouts sound. the coil pack combo sounds 85% like blackouts with a slight passive touch to it. some call it a warmer natural blackout, I say a more aged blackout. great for speed metal or melodic metal and doesnt get muddy or slushy sounding in drop c. i tried these with the duncan distortions and it sounded like only 80% of the pickup is present. the bite and fullness stayed but the highs and the harmonics fell behind. UNLIKE THE LIBERATOR ..will be trying the blackouts preamp with the black winters, D ACTIVATORS and deathbucker through the BMP to see the major effect it has on the pickup
