A warm, moderate-output humbucker pickup designed to produce Slash's unique recorded guitar tone.

The Seymour Duncan APH-2b Alnico II Pro Slash Humbucker honors guitar hero Slash with his first signature pickup. The Seymour Duncan APH-2b bridge pickup's tone will be familiar to anyone who has heard Slash's recorded tone.

Like the standard APH-1 Alnico II Pro, which Slash has used for years, the Seymour Duncan Slash pickup uses an AlnicoII magnet. However, the Alnico II Pro Slash humbucker is wound with just enough boosted output to push a stock Les Paul guitar toward the sweet sustain and rude crunch that characterizes Slash's sound. In addition, Seymour Duncan enhances the APH-2b bridge pickup with some of the same appointments found on the Duncan pickups seen in Slash's '86 recording axe: a single-conductor cable, a long-legged bottom plate, and a wooden spacer. For true fans, or for players who want to capture Slash's recorded tone, the APH-2b pickup is a critical part of the tone chain. This is the same pickup found in the newest Gibson Slash model Les Paul guitar.

Though he has dozens of amazing guitars, since 1986 Slash has used pretty much one very special Les Paul for all recording. The Alnico II Pro Slash pickup was designed to give Slash's other Les Paul guitars (what he calls his "live guitars") the exact tone of his legendary recording guitar.

With the ubiquitous top hat and shades, mop of black curls obscuring his face, and a blazing electric guitar tone blasting through a wall of amps, Slash epitomizes the very reasons we first air-strummed a low-slung tennis racquet in the privacy of our bedroom. For over 3 decades he has relied on Seymour Duncan pickups for his guitar tone.

Warm, moderate-output humbucker. Recommended for jazz, blues, and classic rock.

Complete setup:
The Slash aficionado will use a pair of these pickups to capture that unmistakable tone. This pickup matches well with the SFX-11 Twin Tube Blue all-tube overdrive-distortion stompbox (sold separately) for singing leads and authoritative chording.

While designed for use in a Les Paul, this pickup works well in any well-balanced humbucker-equipped guitar. Also works great with hollow and semi-hollow body guitars.

The Alnico II Pro Slash is hand built in Seymour Duncan's Santa Barbara, California workshop and includes all mounting hardware. Recommended for the bridge position.

  • A2P with a Little More Hair

As reviewed by francis motsay on 5/14/2012

If you like harmonic overtones and a rich thick tone, you'll love this. If you like an A2P, but weren't sure about paying Slash some royalties, I'd say that it's worth it. Duncan quality in a rich, trebly pickup that is not ice picky. There may be better boutique pickups out there (Bare Knuckles for instance), but you can buy one of these for about half the price if you catch a sale and they are an excellent choice for that price. I like Gibson BB3 & '57 Classic Plus, but this pickup is better and less expensive.

  • awesome!

I love these pickups. I bought the matched set and installed them in an Epiphone Snakepit Les Paul and cranked it up to 11. Amazing tone. They're hot yet warm at the same time for a really balanced overall tone.

  • Good..but worth it??

As reviewed by MD on 4/12/2011

Got these to replace the stock Alnico II pro's in my slash standard Les Paul. Was fairly impressed with the added bite and was happy that I was able to get ahold of these to get the true slash sound. However...Not too impressed with the neck pickup in this set wasn't "round" enough for me. I so far have found the best neck pickup, for me anyway, is the seymour duncan phat cat in the neck position, phat cats are an awesome set of pickups, like all the good things lumped togeather from a single coil and a humbucker. Back on topic. I appreciate the vintage appointments on these pickups and the purity of sound. Had to make some adjustments to my equipment to get the sound I want because thses definitly pump up the mids and highs but keep the lows at bay. Are they better: mmmm..don't know, louder yes, more articulate, yes but better..I would say if your happy with your stock Alnico II pro's just leave 'em..slash has, on a lot of his guitars. If you have the werewithal get them, defintely for the hard rock/blues sinewy sound, if not? what your running is all starts at your fingers anyway.
