I like it better than the Shure SM57, but that's just me. I have used SM57s for many years but I don't understand why 90% of the reviews prefer the SM57 over this silver Sennheiser e609 Dynamic Mic.

I think this mic focus only on thing, delivering great and accurate guitar sound, I didn't even need to tweak the EQ at all to get the right tone, although my guitar tone source was already the way I wanted it but I always had to tweak the EQs when recording with a SM57. Also the Sennheiser e609 is easy to place really close to the amp cab without even using a mic stand and is easy to locate that sweet spot that is always so uncomfortable to get when using a mic with a stand.

Moreover. it looks better than SM57 with an old vintage style but yet really lightweight, I'd say half of the weight than the SM57.

First off, this mic has a great design. I love the look and vibe of it. However, the sound is just not for me. I was looking to pair something up with my modified SM57, the E609 is in my price range, and I adore Sennheiser headphones as they have a very accurate midrange. I thought this mic was sure to be a winner. When I got it home, and started laying down some tracks to compare it to my mod SM57, the 57 was fatter & warmer. The E609 has this airy top end that I just could not get used to, especially on distorted guitars. It made it difficult to fit it into a mix as the top end occupied some of the cymbal space. I ended up having to roll off top end, and I would rather not EQ electric guitars. I am sure the mic would be awesome for Snare and Toms, but I've already got my favorites for those. I tried to get into the E609 for a couple of weeks, but ended up returning it for a different mic.

Comments about Sennheiser e609 SilverDynamic Guitar Microphone:

This is, without a doubt, the easiest and most reliable to source, PA and Recording mic for instruments I have used in 20 years. Smooth sound without changing character and the rejection of surroundings is very good especially if you drape it over the amp. That's the feature best of all. You can drape it over the amp, close mic it, no breaking up from loud DB's and resolves the mic stand in front of the amp. I used it in the my studio and it will give you your sound and it will reflect the changes in placement. All in all, for this price, it will serve you well. If you want better, spend much more. I have mic's I spent 300 bucks on that do an extremely well job in recording but are much more work than this one. I highly suggest this mic.

Picked up this mic a couple days ago. Recorded with it today and I'm so pleased! Picks up all the best characteristics of my Princeton Reverb without having to struggle too much with placement! Not as picky as the SM57, and it definitely produces a hotter signal and less hum. I'll be taking this mic on a tour here in a couple days, so we'll see how she hold up for extensive live use! Very excited about this microphone. Can't wait to run it with an SM57 at shows!

Just hang over the top of your amp, position it, tape it down, good to go. one less piece of equipment (mic stand for other types of mics) to bring along.
