Overview

When you need room to perform with your instrument, the only option is to go wireless. The XSW 72-A Instrument Set is part of the XS series of wireless sets from Sennheiser, one of the industry's renowned leaders in microphone technology. The XS series receiver runs on 960 tunable frequencies across 24 MHz, to avoid any possible interference with your sound. The receivers are all made of solid-construction metal housing, and provide up to 10 hours of operation time for a worry-free performance.

The XSW 72-A Instrument Set features a compact bodypack transmitter and a 1/4" instrument cable that will give you natural sound reproduction and connects your instrument directly to the bodypack transmitter - giving you the freedom to move wherever you want on stage. With 2.4GHz synchronization between the transmitter and receiver and 10mW of output, the XSW 72-A Instrument Set will have you performing from a range of up to 250 feet in ideal RF environments. There are 8 frequency banks containing 12 coordinated frequencies each, which will allow for a fast setup of multi-channel systems. Connections include dual outputs with balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/4", selectable for either mic or line level uses. The package includes the Cl 1 instrument cable (1/4"), SK 20 bodypack transmitter, EM 10 true diversity receiver, NT 2-3 power supply, 2 rod antennas, and 2 AA batteries.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCCs wireless microphone website at: www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

Sounds Like a Cable

By Keneth Figueroa

Comments about Sennheiser XSW 72-A Wireless Instrument Set:

Extremely easy to setup and get going. Automatically finds an open frequency, push sync and you're ready to go. Tone sounds just like a cable is plugged in. I switch between direct and wireless and I couldn't tell the difference.

Comments about Sennheiser XSW 72-A Wireless Instrument Set:

I'm a Sennheiser guy but I've used Sure, AKG, Audio-Technics, and other wireless kits. I started with the Sennheiser EW G2 series, then the EW G3 series, and now the XSW series (for the lower price). My major complaint with the G2 kits was no frequency auto-scan and auto-sync between transmitter and receiver feature. These features were added to the G3 series. I was pleasantly surprised to find these features in the XSW series as well. The major technology difference I can see between the G3 and XSW kits is no compander in the XSW...but some engineers don't like the compander anyway because of how it squashes the sound. And the trx input attenuation only goes to -30db whereas the G3 goes to -60db so you have to watch your input signal strength more carefully with the XSW. The XSW is plastic whereas the G3 is metal. But I haven't had any mechanical issues with my 4 XSW kits in the past year+. The XSW is Sennheiser quality and I highly recommend all of its variations (handheld mic, body pack-mic, presenter, instrument). BTW: most of these type body pack wireless kits will work with lav and face/head worn mic's as well as instrument...its just a matter of how the connector is wired. Save some $ by buying an instrument kit and buy a face/head worn beige, brown, or black mic separately.

Comments about Sennheiser XSW 72-A Wireless Instrument Set:

Got this system a little over a year ago. I love being able to move around the stage with no leash. The 2 AA batteries required to run the receiver hold good life so you don't have to worry about buying a 24 pack every month. The system was easy to set up and is even rack mountable. I have experienced zero problems with my unit. The only disappointing thing with the system is how much it costs to get a second receiver. I play in two tunings so I wanted to get another body pack. I got quoted $180 to pick up another receiver. Besides that I love sennheiser XSW 72 B.
