Overview

No matter whether you are a speaker, presenter or rocking the crowd, the XS Wireless Vocal Set puts you in front of every stage. The XSW 35-A is part of the new XS series of wireless mics from Sennheiser, one of the industry's renowned leaders in microphone technology. The XS series receiver runs on 960 tunable frequencies across 24 MHz, to avoid any possible interference with your sound. The receivers are all made of solid-construction metal housing, and provide up to 10 hours of operation time for a worry-free performance.

The XSW 35-A Vocal Set features a handheld wireless dynamic mic transmitter with an e835 cardioid capsule, capable of 2.4GHz synchronization between the transmitter and receiver, and 10mW of output, so you will be able to perform from a range of up to 250 feet in ideal RF environments. There are 8 frequency banks containing 12 coordinated frequencies each, which will allow for a fast setup of multi-channel systems. Connections include dual outputs with balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/4", selectable for either mic or line level uses. The package includes the SKM handheld transmitter with e835 dynamic cardioid capsule, EM 10 true diversity receiver, NT 2-3 power supply, mic clip, 2 rod antennas, and 2 AA batteries.

Consumer Alert:

Most users do not need a license to operate this wireless microphone system. Nevertheless, operating this microphone system without a license is subject to certain restrictions: the system may not cause harmful interference; it must operate at a low power level (not in excess of 50 milliwatts); and it has no protection from interference received from any other device. Purchasers should also be aware that the FCC is currently evaluating use of wireless microphone systems, and these rules are subject to change. For more information, call the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC) or visit the FCCs wireless microphone website at: www.fcc.gov/cgb/wirelessmicrophones.

Comments about Sennheiser XSW 35-A Wireless Handheld Vocal Set:

Very, very poor reproduction of vocals. In particular it is very lacking in the mid-frequency ranges and it over produces the Low frequencies and the very high frequencies. I unplugged my analog SM58 and plugged the SX35 into the same line on my board. Also, the proximity to the mic is very poor (sensitivity). There is very little range of space between the mouth of the singer and the mic head to allow for intended vocal effects. So, if you are switching between Lead singing to Backup vocals, you can't manually control the volume of the output because the mic lacks sensitivity and requires you to "eat" it no matter what volume your are trying to vocally produce. The "gain" knob is

An Overall Well-Rounded Mic

Comments about Sennheiser XSW 35-A Wireless Handheld Vocal Set:

As a mobile DJ, I've always had the belief that wireless microphones are one of those things that you don't want to cheap out on. Like shoes, mattresses, and car tires, the cheap/lower end products will be sub-par, and corners had to be cut somewhere. When it comes to wireless mics, this means most inexpensive ones will have frequent drop-outs, terrible range, and/or awful sound quality. At the other end of the spectrum, the highest end wireless microphones are often too expensive for individuals, and offer more features than most would need. These are suited for concerts, live performers, and production companies/rental houses, but go beyond what a mobile dj, church, or school would need. For me, this wireless mic is a great combination of price, features, and signature Sennheiser quality which is ideal for anyone looking for a solid wireless mic setup that will last. The Great: - The range on this mic is excellent. It will transmit consistently clear and drop-out free audio from 250 feet away, with a clear or even partially obstructed line of sight to the receiver - The mic is simple, making it both easy for the owner to set up, and hard for a guest to misuse the buttons - The battery life is fantastic, outlasting that of comparable Shure's - The receiver box has a light up display, volume control, line and xlr outputs, mic/line gain control, and a readout of the mic's current battery level. - The sound quality, in usual Sennheiser fashion, is hands down excellent - The mic is almost unbelievably light-weight - The wireless fidelity is also hands down great: you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and a hard wired mic in terms of reliability or sound quality at all! - Both the mic and receiver have proven to be very durable after getting transported and handled on a regular basis The Not So Great: - I believe this to be user error, but when the receiver box is on, plugged in to a sound system, at the same time as the mic being COMPLETELY off, I have experienced the receiver picking up intense static, in intervals of a few seconds. I believe it's due to the frequency I am using, however the frequency was verified with Sennheiser's online frequency finder for my area. What does this mean for now? I keep the mic on (muted when not in use) whenever the receiver is on. Luckily, the battery life on the mic is great, so it's not an issue for me while I search for a solution in the meantime! Overall, I would 10/10 recommend this wireless mic setup to anyone! You won't ever trip on mic cables or experience the frustration of drop-out's again.
