I have had my Seagull S6 since 1988, and it wasn't new then. I have had other more expensive acoustics and sold them or traded them, but the Seagull remains my primary acoustic. The S6 may be inexpensive and plain compared to the abalone-laden and pearl-encrusted offerings of other manufactured, but it has a sound that has audibly improved over the years until to my ears it easily rivals any Taylor, Martin, or Guild that I have played. That may sound like extravagant praise but I assure you that it isn't. The Seagull S6 is my go-to acoustic. The new ones are just as good as the old one. In its price range it outstrips any other make and it is frankly better, sonically, than many other more expensive guitars. Don't take my word for it. Try one for yourself. And notice: you don't see a lot of used Seagulls around. Mine's certainly not for sale.

Comments about Seagull The Original S6 Acoustic Guitar:

Needed a new beater to replace my beloved Sigma. After 33 years the old girl earned it's semi-retirement. The S6 is new, but had some dings in the top from being out on the floor (cedar's like that). That took about $50 off it. Full, balanced tone with a nice low end. Need to shave a bit off the bridge, but no big deal. Quite playable action, just a tad on the high side. I like the slightly wider nut width, too (1.8"). Very comfortable. Can't beat it for the money if you want a nut wider than 1 11/16". And believe me, I tried. Don't love the headstock shape but I bought it to play, not stare at.

        Great feeling neck.

Great sound, possibly a little bright but not tinny. The sounds of the individual strings is sharp when strummed. Nice!

Comments about Seagull The Original S6 Acoustic Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for about a year now. As others have said, it is not flashy or laden with different features. It is not cutaway, and is not very playable at the higher frets. But it is well built, reliable, and has an excellent tone.

The only 'drawback' of this guitar is that it is very prone to superficial damage: scratches, dings, small dents that do not affect sound or playability. Be prepared to ding yours.

I am a violinist who has owned my current violin for about 10 years. My violin has accumulated some damage over time (wear and tear). But it still sounds wonderful and I have no doubt that it will last for decades to come. This is very typical of good violins and orchestral instruments. But in the mid-low price guitar world there are a lot of cheap tricks out there posing as nice guitars. This is not one of them.

Seagull S6 is the way to go

          By RICHARD

          from Long Island, NY

Comments about Seagull The Original S6 Acoustic Guitar:

I love this guitar. I honestly was concerned about the wide neck- 1.8 because I am used to playing an Epiphone SG 400 electric which is slim, but I am so used to it now. I actually prefer it for finger picking. The sound is so nice and mellow and loud. It's easy to play and I love the understated beauty of the cedar and cherry wood. I think you make up in quality of this guitar by not getting it as an electric and I don't need electric. I did a lot of research and tried a bunch of brands. Most people want the bigger names but for the price and the fact that it's Canadian made, I urge you to try it. Two things- this is not for kids as it can dent easily due to the cedar top and the lack of lacquer. Cedar also is affected by the elements like humidity but you just have to take care of it. Buy it.

          Great,Great,Great Value Guitar!

          By John Frantz

          from North Brunswick, NJ

Comments about Seagull The Original S6 Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased the Seagull S6 a couple of days ago after reading the many positive reviews and then playing it in the local GC store for about half an hour. You will not find a better guitar in this price range... period. It sounds really nice as is out of the box and after a couple of tweaks it flat out sings. I play a lot of finger style so I am a fan of the wider nut and string spacing. The action was way too high from the factory though so I needed to set it up more to my liking. After a very minor truss rod adjustment I sanded the saddle down by 2/64ths of an inch and replaced the Godin strings that came with it with a smaller gauge D'Addario Exp13 80/20 custom lights. The difference in playability and sound increased dramatically. While I was at it I put a strap button on the side of the heel since it didn't come with one and I don't like having a strap tied to the head stock. One other downside is that it doesn't come with a case or a bag but my salesman did a little tap dancing and hooked me up with a seagull gig bag for no charge. So for 400 bucks plus 10 for the strings along with about an hour of work, you have a North American made (not some cheap Asian piece of ...) guitar that plays and sounds as though it costs three times as much. Love the tone of the cedar top...somewhere right in the middle of the brightness of a spruce top and the warmth of a mahogany one. If your in the market for a really nice guitar and don't want to break the bank in the process buy this one...now... before they catch on and raise the price.

          S6 If Only I'd Known!

          By john marler

Comments about Seagull The Original S6 Acoustic Guitar:

Bought my S6, one month ago from my local GC. I was not familiar with the guitar until a friend suggested I go try one out. I went online, researched, looked at the company, read reviews, listened to them being played on you tube and couldn't wait to get to my local guitar center to check one out myself! I went in that Saturday to hold and play and find out what everybody was raving about. The salesman retrieved the S6 for me and discovered a string missing on it. I thought, just my luck. Brain the salesman said no problem I'll be glad to put a new set on for you. With a fresh set of D'addario EJ16's the S6 really sounded off! I could not believe what my ears were hearing! The action was quite nice, and the wider neck was not a hindrance and I actually liked it. I played a few different tunes and really liked the quality sound the guitar produced. I then went put my money down on it! Since then I've played her on average of two hours a day and it stays almost dead on tune with every string from one day to the next. Beginner or experienced players should be happy with the S6, I think it is a wise investment for the money. It is for me!

Best Acoustic Guitar for the Money

          By Paul Roe

          from Palmerton, PA

Comments about Seagull The Original S6 Acoustic Guitar:

I have purchased 2 guitars in the last 6 months, a Seagull S6 Original for $419.00 and the new Martin D17M for close to $1600.00 when you include the taxes. I am very happy with both these guitars. The Martin does have a nicer sound and is built better. But, the Seagull S6 Original is built well and sounds almost as good at less than a third the price. I still find myself playing the Seagull more often than I do the Martin, probably because I prefer finger-style playing and the Seagull S6 has a wider neck. If you can't afford to spend more than a thousand dollars for a guitar I highly recommend you visit the Guitar Center and try one of these out.

          Everything you could want

          By Joe Costa

          from Orlando FL

Comments about Seagull The Original S6 Acoustic Guitar:

I got this as my first acoustic after probably 10 years of playing electric and I've owned it for about 7 years now. I'm amazed at the quality of this guitar and especially at the price point at which it is listed. All wood construction so it doesn't have that cheap laminate sound to it and depending on what kind of strings you put on, you can really get this guitar to have a wide variety of tones. I've experimented with several and it can go anywhere from warm and full to very precise and sparkling. Honestly don't know that I would ever buy another brand of acoustic because this has all of tone I could ask for. Great guitar. Regardless of your experience level, this is worth every dime and just seems to sound better with age.
