This guitar sounded better than the other solid wood models I played, namely the DR500MCE and DRS2. Was not impressed with those and can't figure out why the former is so popular. This guitar is loud and seemed like the harder I played the better it sounded. That 1.8 neck though, too wide for me, felt like I was always fighting it. Was much harder to bend the(same gauge) strings than on the Seagull S6 spruce top with the narrower neck. The action and neck relief were good although could benefit from minor adjustment. For reference I'm 6' male average build and hand size. If you can find the cutaway version that's only sold in GC stores I highly recommend playing it a bunch to see if you're cool with the neck. I'm not a big fan of the Seagull headstock, at all, but I'll take sound over appearance. I ended up returning it though and ordering the rosewood maritime with the narrower neck.

I purchased this guitar about 1 year ago and loved playing it. Looks great, sounds great I noticed that the action was a little high so shaved the saddle to my favorite height. I have noticed two months later the action is changing so I measured it with a straight edge and it has bowed up 1/8" I now have to send it back for repair or replacement Maybe this is just a fluke thing

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Semi-Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

The top is solid sitka, I emailed Seagull and asked because I couldn't find it in writing anywhere. Great sounding guitar. At first I didn't notice a big difference between it and my old really cheap laminate and was surprised but I just had to play it for a bit. Now I could never go back. You can lay into this one and it will respond nicely, that hog really drives it. Probably would sound great after a couple years.

IMHO it sounds better than the DR-500MCE and DRS2. That wide neck though, I just can't get used to it. It also seems to be much harder to bend strings on it when you compare it to a Seagull with the 1.72 nut. So with that and the width I feel like I'm working more than I need to which I don't like, slows me down. Because I was looking for guitars in a higher price bracket I hadn't played the S6 with the same 1.8 nut or else I probably would have known better. My fault for not doing my homework. I'd give it 5 stars if they had it with the narrow neck like the more expensive rosewood model.

The cutaway Maritime SWS that's only sold in GC stores is basically the same guitar as this one sans cutaway and electronics. And a good bit less expensive. If you have large hands def. give it a play.

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Semi-Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

Like another reviewer commented, my guitar had a poor neck angle, meaning I could not get the action low enough (under 1/8") without removing nearly all of the saddle. I have talked with other Maritime owners who have experienced the same thing. And with Seagull's set epoxied neck, there is no way to adjust the neck angle, unlike their older bolt-on method or the Taylor neck construction. You can even disassemble the neck joint like a dovetail neck joint guitar, because the neck is permanently epoxied in place.

I wish the guitar had been constructed better--it looked and sounded heavenly, but wasn't playable with sky high action.

Great guitar, owe it to yourself to try one out

          By Linwood

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Semi-Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

If you're in the market for a nice guitar you owe it to yourself to try it. You'll be amazed, nothing in its price range comes close to its great sound. Tried every guitar in the store within its price range and beyond and kept coming back to the Seagull. Nothing matched the feel or sound of this model. The wider neck was a perfect match for me, might not be for those of you with smaller hands. Try it out, this brand just sells itself and you will see why.

          Awesome With Phosphor Bronze

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Semi-Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

The guitar is perfect when played with a high-gage set of Phosphor Bronze strings. The lower the gage the worst sound quality in my opinion. But still a great guitar!

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Semi-Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is a dream. The woods used are beautiful and the sound that comes from it is so rich, it just touches my heart everytime I play. I am so glad that I went with the solid wood construction and it promises to sound even better with age. I can only say good things about this guitar and highly recommend it to everyone.

Ive been playing for a year now and ive been looking for a good new acoustic. I was impressed when i heard the sound coming out of this guitar. Its voice is one of the best ive heard it and matches some of the taylors and martins ive played.

          Beauty!

          By Nick

          from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Semi-Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

Several years ago I worked in a music store selling guitars. The one guitar that impressed me most at that time was a Guild acoustic that absolutely reverberated with sound when brought into tune. This is the closest in tone to that guitar I have ever found. It covers the tonal spectrum from low to high in a beautiful balance. This much quality at this price is amazing. I was a little worried about the wider neck, but adjusted in 2 days and found it actually made string separation much easier.

          beatiful tone, unbeatable value!

Comments about Seagull Maritime SWS Semi-Gloss Acoustic Guitar:

I received this guitar as a christmas gift two nights ago ( yes i got it early) and i've been blown away. For the past few months while i've been in the market for a new guitar, i have been playing all that you could imagine: Taylor, Martin, Breedlove, Parkwood, you name it i've played it twice. In my local guitar shop they dropped their taylor and martin guitars and only carry canadian brands such as seagull and norman and art and lutherie, but they still have a few martins and taylor so you are able to compare. this guitar has a beautiful warm tone and mixes the trebles and the low bass notes marvelously. i was looking for the warm bassy style and this guitar blew the martin d-18 out of the water!! every single guitar sounds different, so its a good idea to play a guitar before you buy it, but this is a guitar that i would recommend to anyone. If you can get your hands on one, go ahead and compare it to the big boys. my money says you'll be shocked.
