A solid top acoustic at a great price.

The left-handed Seagull Original S6 is an acoustic guitar that boasts a super comfortable slim neck and a solid cedar top. Speaking of beauty, you'll love the Semi-Gloss Custom Polished Finish on this Seagull guitar. And as with all Seagull guitars, the finish on the left-handed S6 dreadnought is thin enough to allow your tonewood to naturally age, getting better and better over time. Winner of several awards, the S6 is perhaps the instrument that best represents the Seagull philosophy. The S6 offers entry level players the opportunity to experience the great feel and superb sound provided by a hand finished neck, select solid Cedar top and a Custom Polished Finish.

I purchased the s6 shortly after I got an s12. I am a lefty and for the price, the seagull is a great value. Both have the q1 electronics which works well but they sound fantastic without an amp. The s6 has a gorgeous wood pattern on the sides and back. It;s the same wildcherry with cedar top but the s6 is just gorgeous. It frets very well and the neck has very good action,

  • acoustic guitar for the Strat player

As reviewed by Joe Prisco on 2/19/2013

I bought my first Seagull s6 when I didn't know anything about guitars, but I was told this was a good guitar for those used to electrics. The neck profile is in fact rather slim, feeling very much like a Strat as opposed to a Gibson. Comparing it to the Yamaha loaner I'd been borrowing, it was also a touch wider in the string spacing, just enough for clean arpeggios of end-of-neck barre chords like C without any accidental muting. As for tone, it was unanimously preferred among my guitar-playing friends. The review guidelines suggest I also talk about the look, and the s6 I bought came with a very light satin finish; several years of heavy play and no maintenance took its toll. If I had it to do over again, I would have been more careful about keeping it clean. As I understand it, the LaPatrie philosophy is to offer quality without the expensive frills, therefore competing with more expensive guitars for tone but not decorations. So there's little in terms of binding, and the fret markers are simple dots. Structurally, mine has survived several near-death experiences (having a bass amp tip over onto it, etc) without losing any of its tonal quality. In a world where seemingly everyone gets Fenders or Yamahas, Taylors or Martins, I appreciate having a quality guitar that doesn't look like victorian furniture or cost as much as a car. The only reason I think to replace it now is for appearances; if it were stolen and I was offered free choice of any guitar under $1000 as replacement, I'd get another s6 and clean it more regularly :)
