best value

After much research, decided on Seagull s6 guitar. Did not buy at guitar center, because they did not carry at the time. Paid 325.00. You can not get any guitar close to the quality and sound of this Canadian made guitar. It compares with many higher end guitars in sound. I found most accoustic guitars in the 300.00 range are made in china , korea, indonesia, and are basicly pretty generic. Does not make them bad, but also does not make them stand out like the seagull. One other guitar that stood out and i considered strongly was the takamine gs 330. Very, very nice sound, but once again i felt the quality was not a match for the seagull. For about 100.00 more (includes seagull case) i have a guitar that i can hand down over the course of time, and should easily maintain its value.

long term relationship

I have had my Seagull S6 since 1988, and it wasn't new then. I have had other more expensive acoustics and sold them or traded them, but the Seagull remains my primary acoustic. The S6 may be inexpensive and plain compared to the abalone-laden and pearl-encrusted offerings of other manufactured, but it has a sound that has audibly improved over the years until to my ears it easily rivals any Taylor, Martin, or Guild that I have played. That may sound like extravagant praise but I assure you that it isn't. The Seagull S6 is my go-to acoustic. The new ones are just as good as the old one. In its price range it outstrips any other make and it is frankly better, sonically, than many other more expensive guitars. Don't take my word for it. Try one for yourself. And notice: you don't see a lot of used Seagulls around. Mine's certainly not for sale.

Still great after 10 years

My S6 is was purchased in 1997 so it will be 10 years old in July. It has remained a consistent play with a slightly brighter sound than when new. I guess it is due to the wood aging but I am no acoustics expert. I would recommend this guitar over the similarly priced Korean and Chinese offerings.

Seagull S6 GT

I purchased my Seagull S6 GT over a year ago. This is my first guitar as I am a beginner. I tried out several other guitars in the $200 - $600 price range and this one was by far the best in terms of sound, craftsmanship, and playability and sounded as good as some of the higher priced guitars. This will be a guitar I will keep for a long time and not feel guilty about getting it banged around playing on camping trips etc. I'd recommend this guitar to any new beginner.

Seagull S6 Acoustic Guitar

I was looking for a good sounding guitar in the $200-$600 price range, and tried a Taylor Big Baby and several other guitars. This guitar beat the Big Baby by far; it has much warmer and clearer sound. This guitar is great sounding and for a very good value. If you are looking for a very deep sounding guitar, don't buy this. It is not too warm, the bass comes out just right actually, nice and loud. I recommend this to any beginner, but also to longer playing people.
