A steel-string acoustic-electric guitar made with quality materials and superb construction.

The Seagull Maritime SWS Rosewood SG QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar offers the luxury of all solid wood construction with a select pressure-tested solid spruce top and solid rosewood back and sides.

The Maritime SWS RW SG QU also boasts a semi-gloss custom polished finish with a beautiful satin sheen. This finish provides excellent protection and at the same time is extremely light and elastic. This is a crucial point in both the sound of the Maritime guitar and its ability to age-a thick finish muffles a guitar's vibration and blocks aging.

Godin QI Electronics
The Godin EPM Quantum acoustic guitar system is simple in design and outstanding in performance. This single source pickup system features an exceptionally responsive saddle transducer carefully matched to side mount electronics with rotary volume, bass, and treble controls. The electronics and controls are packaged in a small and easy-to-use format complemented with a finely crafted pewter cover plate. In combination with the transducer, the EQ control range and frequency content have been specifically contoured to provide very rich and full sound reproduction resulting in performance seen only in far more complex systems.

The Godin Q1 also includes a built-in high quality digital chromatic tuner with LED display.

Body style
Slightly smaller than a typical Dreadnought guitar, the Maritime SWS Rosewood SG Acoustic Guitar is narrower in the upper bout. This shape discourages unwanted boominess in the sound and is one of the factors that results in Seagulls being such excellent recording guitars.

Select Pressure Tested Solid Tops
A guitar produces sound as a result of the vibration of its strings. What's not so obvious is the role that the guitar top plays in amplifying these vibrations. In fact, the vibration of the top is the most important factor in a guitar's sound. Solid tonewood top guitars offer richer sound and wider dynamic range (they play better at both soft and loud volume levels).

The most interesting thing about a solid top guitar is that it will actually sound better over time. All Seagull guitars are made with select pressure-tested solid tops. Each solid top is made from a single layer of Spruce or Cedar and is pressure tested to ensure its highest level of rigidity and stiffness along with maximum harmonic vibration. The extraordinary wood used in Seagull guitars comes from trees that are hundreds of years old. The tight, straight grain in this wood produces a unique combination of strength and flexibility. The top is strong enough-in the direction of the grain-to withstand the pull of the strings, while at the same time it's flexible enough-across the grain-to vibrate freely.

The perfect neck angle
Neck angle has a tremendous effect on guitar tone. The Seagull re-design served as the impetus for several refinements to Godin's neck matching technology. Bodies and necks are now matched with incredible precision and the new compound curve in the top provides the additional stability necessary to achieve and maintain optimum neck pitch

The Tapered Headstock - Tuning Made Easy
Tuning can be a pain-in-the-neck (sorry). You may have wondered why it is that even after you have carefully tuned each string, it is often necessary to go back and make further adjustments on a few of the strings. This is because the neck moves slightly as you change the tension of the strings. Therefore you don't just tune the strings, you 'balance' the neck at the same time. The tapered headstock on Seagull guitars provides straight string pull, which minimizes the neck twisting effect. This insures that it will be easier to get your guitar in tune and keep it that way. This is particularly advantageous for the growing ranks of players who use open tunings. Case sold separately.

  • Great value

As reviewed by Mike on 7/15/2011

Overall I give this guitar 4 stars out of 5. It can't compete with a medium or high end Martin, Taylor, Larrivee, Gibson, Breedlove, Collings, etc. But at this price, it's not expected to. This model is all solid wood, and because of that it makes for one helluva value at this price. Really hard to beat at this price. So how does it sound, how does it play? Playability is nice. Treble response is nice, and midrange is decent, but bass is lacking. It's missing that low end punch. It's set up with light gauge strings, and I'll change to medium strings, see if it helps. It's brand new, hasn't opened at all. As it opens, we'll see how that affects the bass response. Intontation is good to excellent. This guitar records well unplugged. Cuts through nicely. I've played it a bit plugged in, but haven't tried recording that way yet. But the electronics sound good, the sound is balanced with good intonation. With regards to flatpicking, this responds well to light-to-medium flatpicking. Heavy picking causes it to break up. But we'll see if that improves over time as it opens up. This guitar has a standard width nut, unlike most Seagulls. Most Seagulls have a 1.8" nut, which is well suited to fingerstyle. But this one is standard, so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who plays heavy fingerstyle. Nor would I recommend it for someone who has a heavy hand with the pick. If you're a bluegrass type, I would stay away from this model. Overall, I would have to say that this is a reasonably decent guitar. The Seagull SWS series are musicians' guitars, they're not just toys that look pretty but don't play well. These instruments are for real. They're all solid wood guitar with decent electronics and decent workmanship - a poor man's "real" instrument. If you can't afford to spend a grand+ on a guitar, then this one is a good choice. It's a great value.

  • Disappointed

As reviewed by Mark Knudsen on 4/19/2010

Pros: Pretty guitar! Nice combo of woods and finish. Sounds very good. Q1 electronics sound good, too. Cons: Quality?!? Binding at top back is poorly closed. Also, marquetry along back does not line up with bottom. Martin would never let a guitar out like this!!!

  • Great Guitar. Buy it!

As reviewed by Johnathan on 8/31/2010

I am very pleased with my purchase. Excellent craftsmanship, beautiful satin finish, well constructed all the way around. The solid rosewood back and sides are definitley an upgrade from the mahogany, with a much fuller and warmer tone. This is one of the loudest acoustic guitars I have ever heard. The factory setup is perfect, great action and the factory Godin strings sound great. One thing not mentioned in the specifications are the tuning keys, they are actually gold, with what appears to be mother of pearl (or some other substitute) buttons. I really wanted the nickel plated tuning keys, but I really like these, I don't think you will be disappointed. They look great. The Godin electronics convey a very full acoustic tone through a PA or amplifier, and the onboard tuner adds incredible convenience. Before making this purchase I played everything in the store from Breedlove, to Taylor, to Martin, even Taks. Hands down, this guitar had everything I played (anything under $2000) beaten. Definitely a buy, excellent guitar.
