A great value for an eco-friendly guitar!

The Seagull Coastline Series S6 is a dreadnought acoustic guitar that features back and sides made from a 3-layer lamination of wild cherry wood. With a sound that lands somewhere between the mellow tone of a mahogany guitar and the bright sound of maple, wild cherry has proven itself to be an excellent tone wood. Grown locally, wild cherry is also an ecologically friendly choice. Seagull Coastline series guitars feature very smooth necks made from Silver Leaf Maple. Seagull Coastline series guitars represent one of the world's outstanding values in acoustic guitars.

  • Great value for the price

As reviewed by Randall on 4/23/2011

I bought this Coastline S6 Dreadnaught guitar after a couple of strums! I wanted an inexpensive outside campfire guitar to save my Martins from harm. After trying out two laminates and sending them back, they sounded like plywood, I searched every evening on the web for videos to get sound reviews. Finally walking into a store I tried this one and found the match in quality and sound against the Martins. Something about the cedar top and cherry gives this one mild lows and excellant mids. The satin finish and light coating on the top must be the key to producing the sound and long sustain from this laminate side and back guitar. Don't be fooled by the fancy poly-coatings on those other cheap guitars! I think this guitar is overlooked by too many people. Put some new coated strings on it before making up your mind, you won't be sorry!

  • Great guitar for the price

As reviewed by Geal Yoon on 1/22/2013

I purchased this guitar about a year ago, and at the time I was looking for a step up from my washburn wd-10s (which was a decent beginner guitar), and I was looking at either the Taylor 110 or this guitar, and ended up choosing this one for the following reasons. 1. tone: this guitar has a fairly warm, woody and dry tone. The guitar sounds "open" whereas the taylor sounds "tight" and "compressed". It was also a good deal warmer than the taylor, which was more to my liking (at least at the time). Also, the taylor sounded great with elixir strings, but using any other strings but the elixirs seemed to diminish the "taylor" sound, while they seagull seemed less picky about strings (I've used martin sps and elixirs before settling on d'addario's "bluegrass" gauge strings). Also, play both guitars in store, the videos on youtube do not ever do a guitar justice. 2. good value: simply put, this seagull, IMO, matched the taylor in terms of quality and tone, which led me to the conclusion that instead of paying nearly 200 more for the taylor, I could put that money to better use by getting a hard case and a set-up (admittedly the taylor is better set-up and easier to fret than the seagull) Go try both of them out. I recommend the seagull, as I feel that it is the best dreadnought guitar at the $200-600 price range (taylor 110 seems a bit overpriced. If it was the same price as the seagull, this review might not have been written). For the indignant taylor fans, I am immensely in love with a taylor 314ce that I played recently, and will purchase that ASAP.

  • Great Guitar

As reviewed by Josh on 5/19/2010

This seagull is great for most acoustic music. Playing rhythm guitar with it is very nice. The only music the guitar is not for is the blues. It has more of a classical ring to it.
