Stiletto Studio-5 Bass

By Paul of Alation

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I bought this bass a few months back to replace the 5 string I've had for 15 years. I did a lot of comparing and decided this was a good addition to my collection. This bas has some great options with the 3 tone knobs, unlike most basses. Even with the tone knobs I'd still recommend an actual EQ of sort to dial in the exact tone you want. This bass has a lot of punch and great low end response. If you are serious about finding a new bass to your liking, you should try to play them thru a setup much like what you normally play. This will avoid dissapointment later. The weight of this bass is not too heavy, you must realize its solid wood! This bass is perfectly balanced and is a dream to play. The neck is beautifull and smooth. It comes standard with with decent strings but I do not like them and will be replacing them soon. I have not yet recorded anything with this bass but it will be used soon. Playing this bass live has been nice, and im sure there are much better out there but for this price I believe this is near the top for most. The only thing I have a complaint about is the fact that it doesnt fit in a standard hard case. But this is very minor due to all the positives of this bass. Try it out and I'm sure you'll enjoy playing this well made bass.

come on income tax return!!

By dave w

from ashtabula,ohio

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I tried out this thunder stick at ghe G.C. in Mayfield, Ohio. Coming off of a 12 year vacation from playing bass, when I'm spending my pesos, they need to be spent legitimately. I picked up a Jasmine 4 stringer A/E for jammin to c.d.'s and CMT. It is fun to play, and smooth, but limited. Schecter really pulled it off with this one. Excellent clarity, sustain, playability, tone, comfort, and affordability. When income tax return time rolls around, I'll be sleeping on the couch after I bring it home and show my wife.

Nice Bass for price

By bcgbrooks

from Painesville, OH

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I bought this to play at my church. It's a little heavy, but otherwise very functional and warm sounding bass. The neck moves well, but 1st and 5th stings are aweful close to the edge, so be careful when moving quickly. Excellent bass for the mid price range.

Schector Stiletto Studio-5 bass

By Griesfire

from fair lawn, NJ

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I recently bought the Schector Stiletto Studio-5 bass. I played several other guitars including comparably priced cort and ibanez 5-string models. This guitar blew them away. The neck feels very smooth and is easy to navigate. The string spacing is just right for a 5-string and the thru-neck gives it a great sound and better resonation than most guitars. The guitar's styling is best put as professional looking. It has a very classy look and the sound to back it up. The guitar's sound is versatile; several tone options allow the user to achieve a very wide array of sounds. I like anything from slap bass to smooth jazz and I can get it all out of this. My only complaint is the balance. The guitar is a little more top heavy than I would like, but it is a bass so that's understandable.

A Work of Art

By Heard of Cows?

from Manchester, CT

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

This bass is truely a work of art. The tone from the active EMGs is crisp and clear. It also lends itself to distortion, wah pedals and all forms of modulation. This bass simply has the best tone south of a grand. The neck-through design gives this bass great sustain and tone quality. The action is perfect for playing anything for Jaco to Zeppelin. My only compaint was that my potometer was set too high from the factory (causing uncontrolable buzzing) but I fixed that and now I have the perfect bass. I am considering buying another one, doing some neck work, and turning it into a fretless. All in all, I cannot praise this bass enough. Thanks Schecter for building such a wonderfull instrument!

Very Good

By Tsukasa135

from WSP, MN

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I was trying to decide between this bass and a Warwick which would have cost about $250 more. This bass is amazing, and its tone is nice and crisp. The knobs are responsive (as far as I've tested) and its stood up to matching a tone to any style of music I've put it up against. Its a great buy.

The Hammer I Swing at Work

By Rocky Buldo

from Ga

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

With 40 years of playing bass I own 11 axes, Vintage Fenders, Alembic you name it. When I go to work over 100 times a year I Swing a Schecter Stiletto Studio-5 Bass for a lot of reasons. 1)It is the logical conclusion in bass evolution, the B string intonation is perfectly in line. 2)Power this axe thunders like nothing else. 3)Tone Flexibility - Bass Mid & Treble are right there at your fingertips, the two volume post give you balance and bias like no other Bass.

This bad boy kicks

By Bman

from Wheatland, CA

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

My wife bought me the Stiletto Studio-5 Bass for our 20th anniversary. She did her homework well and matched me up with one awesome bass. The tone is superb. Playablity is like that of a bass three times its price. I play it 3 to 5 nights a week absolutely love it. I instantly fell in love all over again. Oh yeah I dig my wife too.

Good instrument, but not for all...

By Michael

from St. Charles, IL

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

When buying, the choice was between a Fender Jazz V and the Studio 5. GOOD: What won me over was the Schecter's neck, which was smooth (not overly polished and "sticky") and thin (making it easy to move around and access low B. The frets are low profile and the action is low, making it easy to play lines that require speed and tapping. The lows are ace. BAD: The knobs aren't too responsive. Though at first the low profile frets and action (yes, I've raised it) were nice because you didn't need to play that hard, but slap sounds messy. If you like jazz and rock, this bass is quick and easy to play, but to truly be in control of the sound takes lots of attention to block and deaden.

Worth the money...

By JY

from LV, NV

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

This guitar is extremely awesome! I tried it at my local guitar center & I instantly fell in love. It has excellent sustain because of the neck through feature, and it has an awesome finish. I would recommend this bass over $1000 warwicks. That's how highly I think of this bass. Go to your local guitar center and try this bass. You won't be disappointed...

Amazing!!!

By Arron Steadman

from Bend, Oregon

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I saw this bass and I had to have it. I ordered the thru black model. This thing is simply the best instrument that I have ever owned. Set up was perfect out of the box. intonation was spot on. The EMG pickups are great and have a nice mid range presence. The eq controls offer a wide range of tonal opportunities. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a 5er south of a grand. It is pretty well balanced just a small amount of neck dive, but not enough to really complain about. It has a good weight to it in my opinion. It starts to feel heavy after a couple hours, but that is expected. I say buy it you won't be disappointed!

A god of metal

By Greg

from St. Augustine, Florida

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I just recently bought one of these so i could continue learning and playing bass. I have to admit, my boy Scott in Jacksonville was right in letting me get the studio 5 instead of the custom 5. the action is amazing, the EMG's are phenominal, and this bass does absolutely everything! I've found though that it handles any kind of metal or hardcore you throw it's way, and the bottom string is SUPER deep and all around amazing. I have nothing but enthusiasm for this bass and would gladly recommend this bass to anyone playing any style.

Makes me sounds good!

By Christian Harding

from Scottsdale, AZ

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I was many years ago, a cellist. Well about two months ago I was asked to join a band here locally. Well, I had never played bass before, but figured I could give it a try. Well... I purchased a Ibenez 5 string from the store because of the price. But when I tried that bass for the first time I also tried the Schecter Studio 5. Well long story short, I took back the Ibenez a few days later and purchased the Schecter. It has great tone amazing sustain, and well even a cellist can sound good rocking it out! There is very little fret buzz and the pickups really punch in the mid-range. Now, I cant wait to get home and practice being a rockstar! I am very happy and you will be too! Christian

Smooth honey satin sound

By Big Chris

from Jackson Michigan

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I bought the studio 5 about 3 months ago. It's got a beautiful finish, but more importantly it plays like butter. The 3 band EQ is excellent for finding that ever elusive perfect sound. It's perfectly balanced, and the action is tight and clear all the way to the B string. It's the perfect combination of aesthetic design, sound, and playability. Forget "for the price", this instrument quite simply is a bass players dream come true, no matter what your playing style. My only complaint is my girlfriends jealousy when she catches me staring at my new bass (It's a whole different kind of love sweety I swear!)... kudos to Schecter... 6 stars baby!

Incredible Bass

By GA Hodge

from Tifton, GA

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I purchased this guitar about 3 weeks ago and I love it more and more every time I play it. I changed out the strings to DR LoRiders and was blown away. For about 10 years I played an Ibanez SR885. I decided to purchase a new guitar this year and wanted another Ibanez. That was until I played this Schecter. The sound is amazing and the action is incredible. For a female player this bass is a great fit for my smaller hands. This guitar is worth so much more than what one will pay for it.

Rawr.

By Cody Grey

from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

You want growl? You got it. You want boom? You got it. You want punch? You most certainly got it right here. This thing cuts through a mix like a hot knife through melted butter. The versatility on this thing is amazing, but I find myself using both pickups with the mids cranked and the bass boosted. This thing has TONS of midrange if you choose to use it. The action can be set anywhere from low to high, I like mine on the slightly higher side. Neck feels great, could play on it all day (and I have). Only drawback is a good bit of weight. If you don't like a ballsy, punchy sound, this bass isn't for you, so try it out!

Life is Good...

By Steve-O Pastorius

from Washington, DC

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-5 Bass:

I just upgraded from the Custom-4 and wow, I am constantly amazed. The lows of this bass make you feel like nothing I've ever felt. I have a Fender also, and although nothing can truly compare to the fullness of a fender, I think I will stick with this for a while. I changed out the strings of the Schecter with the Fender 9050L flatwounds and the sound is perfect for my genre. I play a lot of Neo-soul and R&B. I think that the only way I'd do better is if I actually had an upright (which is in the works). You will not go wrong with this instrument. As someone recently told me and the guitar store off of M street in DC...Life is good for me right now. BUY IT!!!!
