What caught my attention was the look of this bass. What kept my attention was the sound and playability. It's got a great neck for any size hands, awesome pickups (EMG's can be a bit noisy at times), and a price I couldn't walk away from. I've owned and played basses costing hundreds, even thousands more and this one stands out from the crowd! Not neccessarily the ideal recording bass, but for live gigs, this axe is now my road dawg.

I own the sunburst Schecter Omen 4 bass and decided to give a 5 string a shot. I traded in the 4 string for this bass. I was severely disappointed. The necks is not comfortable to play at all. The strings felt very weak when plucked it did not give off a full amazing sound like my 4 string. The hardware felt very cheap and the guitar is so light that I feel the lacks of punch is where it stems from. This is the FIRST Schecter guitar I have ever been disappointed in. I returned it and got my original 4 string back.

Great

By Schkablablabla

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

I have had this bass for a little over a year. It was great right from the start but i had to get the neck adjusted about a month ago for $60. this bass has great pickups that sound great for anything from Iron Maiden to Pink Floyd to Queen to Rancid. The controls can change the tone very dramatically. the string spacing makes it possible to slap without hitting the B string. The neck is smooth and fast. this bass plays better than any Fenders or Rock Basses that i have played. It also out plays some $1000 Warwicks that I've played. Buy this bass then get it set up and you will not be disappointed.

Schecter all the way!

By David

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

The Schecter Stiletto Custom-5 bass is by far the best bass I've played yet. The sound of it is great, and the feel of it is just amazing. Compared to the Stiletto Elite-5 bass, the feel and quality of this bass was by far better. The natural feel compared to the laquer feel is what got me, also. If your like me and like the natural wood feel going up and down the neck, this bass id just for you.

Best in its price range

By Anonymous

from New Mexico

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

I have played almost every kind of bass out there from Warrior to Tobias to Fender and I have to say this is a really good bass for the cost. the EMG's give it a very deverse tonal range. If you are shopping for a guitar that is in the 500 to 600 dollar price range this is the one. I know its not neck through but almost anything in this price range that is has sacrificed in some other more critical area.

Silky Smooth

By Steve

from Albuquerque NM

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

I purchased this bass over 2 years ago and havent looked back since. Ive played Fender, Ibenez, Michael Kelly, and Squire basses in the past and this one really takes the cake. The action is low and fast and the tonal control you get with this baby is amazing. For a bolt on neck the sustain is better than you would think and the EMG-HZ's are loud and clear. As far as the quality of craftsmanship is concerned Ive never had a problem with anything on the bass and it looks stunning. I play everything from blues and funk to rock and heavy metal and this bass has never let me down. In short, shes silky smooth.

Top notch bass for bottom dollars

By Trickbags

from Atlanta, Ga

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

Real simple the only thing this bass is missing in a active/passive switch just go by an eq. This bass is just as good as a $1000 dollar plus bass. If you set the eq just right on this bass and start playing it will stop people dead in their tracks to listen. It covers all ranges of music jazz, hip hop, rock, funk, even gospel. its better than those fender jazz basses.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

While I'll admit the look of this thing will set you apart from the crowd, I'm not a fan of emg's, too noisy for me. Also I fond the truss rod difficult on the one I was adjusting.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

I've owned this bass for about 6 years now and it still amazes me. It can do everything you need it to, from jazz to metal, it plays beautifully, the low B string doesn't lose any of its potency through the electronics and it looks absolutely gorgeous (I bought the natural satin, gold-looking model). I have gotten dozens of comments on how beautiful the bass looks. I've primarily used it for playing at local churches but I've also used it for jamming with friends, playing rock or metal, and in jazz bands and it sounds great in every situation (I've also gotten some pretty funky sounds out of it too). For the price, you can't get a better bass. To beat the quality of this bass you'd have to easily pay double, if not triple the price of what it's going for. I love this bass to death and would recommend it to anybody for anything, whether you're a novice looking for an upgrade, or a long time player who just needs something new, this is the bass.

Buzz - sometimes incorrect string gauge size

    By CB

    from Toledo, OH

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

With any bass if your string gauge size is (for example) 105, 85, 65, and 45 - lets say in the new set the A is 80 instead of 85 - you will notice a buzzing that sounds as if its coming from your frets but actually it's coming from the nut area. Replace the incorrect string with the correct gauge size and the buzzing will cease.

    Will keep this bass forever

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

This is an amazing bass guitar. I play mine through my 4x10 Ampeg Classic Cab & an Ampeg SVT-7 Pro Head. Every note plays out beautifully no matter the tuning you're in. I'm in a band that plays in drop G and drop A and works with no problems, even with the strings that come on it. The Natural Satin stain is gorgeous with the matte gold hardware. Of course, the EMG HZ pickups are a very good plus to put it all together. Overall, if you're looking for a bass that sounds as good as it looks then get it. I didn't hesitate buying this, even before I was able to play it, and I regret nothing. I will say my favorite part about this bass are the two darker stained stripes on the back of the neck that goes all the way to the headstock. Very sleek looking.

    Great looks and tone

    By ProtesThis

    from Muncie IN

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

This bass was the first thing that caught my eye when i went into guitar center. I loved the white top of this guitar and the tan outlay of it. I looked over it and the only thing i didnt like was the bolt on neck. But, i plugged it in and it didnt even seem like one. It sustained great and was actually a joy to play. I love to play bass, but only when the bass is FUN to play. This bass is definately one of those basses that i can jam on everyday and have fun with.

    worth it

    By Cliff

    from Fillmore, NY

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

I bought this bass about a year ago and have had few problems with it. The only problems I noticed is it sucks up the battery life fairly quickly so I just used the passive jack in my amp, I also notcied it doesn't like to stay in drop D but you can fix that with tuner locks. I would deffinatly recomend this bass for any bass player it is to knotch quality and delivers any playing style.

    By Milton Torres

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

The Schecter Stilletto Custom 5 bass has definately revolutionized my bass playing. The tone this thing puts out are great for anything from rock, to jazz. The lows are clear and deep and the highs are perfect for that pop you've always been looking for on those funk lines. Not to mention, it's natural wood finish really makes it stand out on stage and definately draws attention to those great sounding grooves.

    The true "Everything" bass!

    By Mitch

    from Georgetown, IN

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

Let me just say that this is my all time favorite bass, and for an amazing price. I can virtually get any tone out of this bass's active EQ. The only tones I can't get are Steve Harris and Fieldy, but then again what basses can. This was my second bass, and I don't think I will need a third for a long time. I use a 1X15 speaker and it sounds amazing. Great for gigging. The natural color really gives it that "WOW" factor. My only complaint is that is that it scratches and dents very easily, so be careful and get a hardshell case for it. I do prefer the natural color over the vampyre ed one.

    I'm impressed.

    By Jay Allen

    from Shreveport, LA

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-5 Bass:

This bass is a very good instrument. It's built well and the tone is amazing for my more metallic pursuits. The only gripe I have is that the strings that come with it are awful, but that's something that can be easily rectified. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a bass for metal.
