i've played expensive fender basses, ibanez, and others, and so far this one comes out on top. i just bought it as an upgrade to my washburn lyon i got at the pawn shop and let me tell you, it was one heck of an upgrade. this sucker was rattling the walls of my room with my amp at 2! if you want raw power, without having to sacrifice control, this is for you. this thing can give the most gut-wrenching roar that i've ever heard! not to mention the excellent low-action neck witch gives me great control and comfort. dollar for dollar, (or compared to any $600+ bass) this thing holds its own in every way with more than enough to spare to make you gawk in amazement every time you play it.

This bass plays well, the neck is ultra thin and extremely comfortable with excellent action, but the sound is lacking. I've never gotten a sound I like out of it through Fenders, Peaveys AND Ampegs. On top of that, although it's small, this bass is a lot heavier than it should be. Look for a better bass in the price range, even if you have to get it used ( A used Fernandes is an excellent option ).

WOW!!

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

I've owned this bass for a few months now and I have to say I LOVE it!! Once you play it you wont be able to put it down. It has a very crisp, clean sound that I find to be very versatile! It tends to be a little more on the edgey side of things which comes in handy when you want to rock out!!

A World Class Bass Guitar

By Dave

from Tallahassee, Florida

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

I have been playing guitar for 40 years and I have stood behind and played hundreds of makes and models of Bass Guitars. So when I decided to purchase a new Bass Guitar I went in with the mindset to come out with a winner regardless of the name on the neck. It had to sound really good, feel good, and look pretty. I played every Bass Guitar in the store and I always came back to this Bass. It felt good, it looked gorgeous, and most importantly it sounded AWESOME. Nothing compared to it and I was standing in a room full of Bass Guitars. An outstanding Bass Guitar, World Class in my view. I walked out the door with her!

Not Bad

By JMBass

from Iowa

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

I have owned this Bass for about 3 and a half years now. It has stood up to the abuse i have given it. It has seen countless shows, been left out in our trailer through nasty weather, been dropped, used by other players and many more. It still sounds decent and plays well everytime i use it. 1 major complaint is the intonation that it has. It is not horrible, but far from perfect. It is probably due to the abuse that i have given it, but still an issue. I would recommend this bass to any beginner or intermediate player, or to a professional as a practice or back up guitar. Good strings are a must with this bass. Cheap strings sound muddy. Overall a decent bass, excellent for the price, and great build quality

pleasantly suprised

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

all i have to say is that you dont have to spend 3000 dollars to get a good playing bass...this has good low end and punch...extremely light weight...when playin 4 hours at a time weight is a big issue for me....my only problem is the design of the s-tek bridge, there are other bridges out there that are more user friendly and will give you better results....so for anyone that thinks you have to spend an arm or a leg, or spend a year savin up for a bass, get over it...this bass, regardless of where its made, is perfect for beginners or advanced bassists

By Rudy C. Wedderburn

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

I've owned my Schecter Stilletto Custom4 for about a year now. I love the stock EMG's, and the fast neck. The tone is phenominal, the sound is bangin'. I highly recommend this bass.I got mine in the natural satin.

Good overall quality at a reasonable price

By Ancient Newbie

from Mid-Atlantic/Northeast

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

About a year ago, I re-embarked on a course I'd abandoned some 40-odd years earlier -- namely, playing (bass) guitar. As a kid, I'd taken a stab at it, did everything (from my selection of instrument to trying to teach myself that which I did not know) completely wrong, and gave up in sheer frustration. Life went on; and for reasons I need not belabor here, I decided to give it a go again in my fifties. So I bought this bass second-hand, along with a nice Ampeg amp (which turned out to be too much amp for my purposes; but that's another story). As I received it, the setup was pretty bad; but of course, being a rank newbie, I did not realize this at the time. Within a few weeks, instead of developing the benign callouses which bass/guitar players must expect, the fingers on my left hand were completely torn up from having to press the strings too hard. A trip to a good local shop for a new set of flat-wound strings and a PROPER setup job cured this. The action was now MUCH lower; the flat-wounds are smooth as butter; and the instrument was now a comparative joy to play. Actually, it turned out that the action was just a tad _too_ low, as I was now getting fret knock way too easily; but 1/8-1/4 turn of the truss rod completely cured this, with no noticeable negative side effects. And that's the way it stayed, for several months. Now that I've gained some experience (I won't say 'competence'), I've come to realize that the rather thin & ultra-"fast" neck, while highly prized by some players, is not ideally suited to my hand and/or playing style. It makes it easy to "reach" notes (particularly those on the lower part of the neck and/or several frets away), even when you're in a bit of a hurry; but I tend to cramp up after extended playing on the upper (thinnest) end of the neck. I've since played several dozen other basses, of widely varying types & costs; and as a result of that, I've absolutely fallen in lust with the Tobias Basic, which features a unique asymmetrical neck profile -- but I simply cannot justify the cost of such an instrument, given my still-rudimentary skills. Overall, the Schecter Stiletto Custom-4 is a well-built and high-quality instrument, especially considering it's "modest" origins and relatively low cost. The woodwork, fit & finish are all top-notch; the hardware is at least very good, if not "The Best" available; and it truly is a pretty piece. The bum setup job may well have been the doing of the original owner; so I can't hang that on Schecter's head. OTOH, if you get one of these and find that it doesn't play as well as you think it should, throwing ~$50 at a good local luthier would be money very well-spent.

Schecter custom-4

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

before i get into the review i must say, this is a beautiful instrument. it has amazing quality, and it looks as good as it sounds. i love the powerful pickups, and the amazing action. the bridge looks great, but i would expect it to be a bit tricky to deal with if you want to adjust it. as far as i have played, its great for all the styles of music i play. im currently saving up for one of these, which might take a while, (on account of my minimum wage job) as a step up from my Ibanez soundgear (which i also love by the way)

Its everything I could ask for in a bass!

By Bassman101

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

This bass is amazing! It's action is great for slap, tapping, harmonics, and pretty much anything you put up on this axe. Its extremly light and it has nice low action without any fret buzz or the strings feeling too loose. The tone is incredible, you can get pretty much any tone out of this bass...the tone is very bright and crispy, It pretty much sings! I compared it to the shecter stilleto ellite and in my opinion this sounds way better! its everything I could ask for I highly recomend this bass!
