i've played expensive fender basses, ibanez, and others, and so far this one comes out on top. i just bought it as an upgrade to my washburn lyon i got at the pawn shop and let me tell you, it was one heck of an upgrade. this sucker was rattling the walls of my room with my amp at 2! if you want raw power, without having to sacrifice control, this is for you. this thing can give the most gut-wrenching roar that i've ever heard! not to mention the excellent low-action neck witch gives me great control and comfort. dollar for dollar, (or compared to any $600+ bass) this thing holds its own in every way with more than enough to spare to make you gawk in amazement every time you play it.

This bass plays well, the neck is ultra thin and extremely comfortable with excellent action, but the sound is lacking. I've never gotten a sound I like out of it through Fenders, Peaveys AND Ampegs. On top of that, although it's small, this bass is a lot heavier than it should be. Look for a better bass in the price range, even if you have to get it used ( A used Fernandes is an excellent option ).

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

Ready to play out of the box. Comes with EMG pickups and Ernie Ball Extra Long (Hybrid Slinky) Nickel Roundwounds. Good punchy tone, nice low action, smooth fast neck. Sounds great through Peavey BAM 210 (350W). Solid construction and light. Active EQ setup allows for finding your perfect tone. Vampyre Red color in picture does not match the actual color of the bass. The color is much deeper/darker, much more like a cherry wood color. Would buy again.

    Stiletto Custom 4

    By Jim

    from Hingham

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

Easily the best bass I've ever bought. The Stiletto Custom 4 has 24 Jumbo frets, on a 34" scale neck. The neck is a Bolt-On, but with 6 bolts, not the standard 4. This ensures a much more stable neck, which plays and feels amazing. I have the Vampyre Red Satin (VRS) with black hardware. The body is Mahogany with a Quilted Maple top, it looks and sounds beautiful. The Stiletto custom has an S-Tek bridge, which is simple to use when replacing strings, and an incredibly sturdy bridge. The factory strings are Ernie Ball 4 String Super Long #2849 (.045-.105), I will be switching over too D'Addario Tapewound Bass Guitar Strings, Medium, 50-105, Long Scale. It has a Volume, Blend and a 12db active EQ, allowing a Bass & Treble cut or boost. This guitar comes standard with EMG 35HZ pickups, which require the use of a battery, but sound absolutely massive. They are very versatile pickups.

    Wow!

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

I've been playing bass for 35 years and have owned all the major brands as well as some others, and this is by far my favorite. The neck is thin and faster than an Ibanez, the sound is full and powerful, and it's writ is lighter than you'd expect. The finish on the Vanpyre Red Satin model is absolutely incredible...the picture doesn't come close to doing it justice! The best bass I've ever owned hands down :)

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

I have this bass in the natural satin, and it is beautiful. Not only is this a piece of art, but it sounds amazing. I could not be happier with this bass, it is very comfortable to play and the tone is great. The pictures do not do this bass justice, this is easily the best looking instrument I have ever seen. I would recommend this bass to anyone, truly a great instrument.

    Amazing bass...how sweet the sound.

    By Josh Evans

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

This is one amazing, versatile bass. I use it for many genres such as in my youth praise band, my progressive metal band, classic rock (deep purple, the police, pink floyd), metal (metallica, opeth, tool), and just anything that requires a thick and punchy tone with plenty of sustain and clarity. The pickups can be full but also sharp and punchy. The neck is satin smooth and fast. The body is aesthetically pleasing and beautiful! (vampyre red) The mahogany growls and gives a deep tone and the quilted maple is a wonderful accent for the red finish. The tones i use for it include a full, punchy, bassy/low midded tone, a hi mid boost for sparkling harmonics, and a grindy mid scoop tone for metal and Tool songs. It is overall a very versatile and multipurpose bass and is good for any genre from classic rock to fusion to heavy metal. Great basssss!

Fantastic sound, perfect look for about a week.

    By Gavin W.

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

I love this bass guitar. The pickups are great, the bass is one of the lightest I have ever used, and it is very easy to play. However, I bought this bass, not only because of the fact that I love schecters, but also because of it's looks. However I'm very clumsy when it comes to my instruments, and I often bump into things, drop things, etc, but I was very careful after buying this bass. But even when I was careful, i still manage to bump things from time to time. I got the natural finish, and every little tap on a wall, bookshelf, or door frame leaves a very noticeable dent in the wood. I have had it for a few months now and already I have probably 6 or 7 highly noticeable dents, and scratches which dramatically damages the appearance. If you are planning to buy this bass for mainly the appearance, and if you ever bump or scratch instruments, you are going to be very upset. You WILL get dents. I wish I would have known this before I purchased it.

    it's price is a steal

    By Nikk Gallows

    from Durham Maine

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

First off this bass is beautiful, (especially in natural) I can't express how often I get comments on the appearence of my bass, and the sound for that matter. What's so sick about it is it's super versatile. Why put down at least 1.6k on a jazz bass when you can get all the pop and twang of a fender on your schecter and still hit those bonecrushing growling tones. Every time I go to GC and play the wicked expensive j and p basses I noticed that their just not as nice as my shecter. This bass is crafted beautifully and it almost seems like the fenders are awkward and ugly compaired to this. The bridge is sick, the tuners could be better, pickups are beastly and the overall weight is nice and light. So why buy fender when you can get the same tone and a wider range on a nicer looking bass for less then a fraction of the price. just make sure you hook it up with a set of ernie ball hybrids

    Best I've played

    By Jenny

    from St. Louis, MO

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

I've owned my Natural Satin Schecter Stilleto Custom-4 for about a year now, and it's a joy to play every time I pick it up. It's lightweight, looks amazing, and sounds even better. When I went to Guitar Center to pick out a new bass, I went in with an open mind...I didn't have a specific instrument already picked out in my head, I just wanted to play and see which sounded the best (within reason on the price). I tried 6 or 7 different basses, and this one was it. The lows make your chest rumble, but they aren't muddy at all, you can clearly hear every note you play. The highs sing. When I brought it to practice the first time, my bandmates went nuts. They love the look and sound of it too. It's a great bass for the price, I wouldn't trade it for anything!

    Amazing!!

    By Zack

    from Peoria, Il

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

Ive been playing bass for 6 years now, I have owned Fenders, B.C. Rich's, and a Samick, and have play many more in stores and people I know. But none of them have ever been like this one. The tones from this thing are incredible. I play metal and tune down to drop C. This bass with DR DDT strings is a perfect match for metal music. Not to mention the wood grain finsih is beautiful. Im not a fan of gold but the satin gold knobs just make this thing look even better. After this bass I know I will always be sticking with Schecter.

    Sick action and beautiful sound

    By Keith

    from Harrisburg, PA

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Custom-4 Bass:

I just bought the Stiletto Custom two days ago. I actually wasn't even planning to buy a new bass at the time since I was just going in to buy a portible recorder and guitar stand. But as soon as I starting playing it, hearing is sing and feeling at wicked sweet action, I fell in love. I got the natural satin, which looks absolutely stunning. With the low action and narrow neck you'll find yourself wanting to do bass solos every time you pick it up. To those here who says it's not for beginners, I beg to differ. I have only been seriously playing bass for a little less then a year and I can tell that for someone such as myself who has smaller-then-avery hand, this bass is perfect. Just a word of advice for those beginners. If you can, practice on a bass with a standard-size neck. If you have more then one then don't use this as the bass to do your excercises on.
