i got this bass for christmas, its tone is amazing, it has nice sturdy pick-ups, it has a nice balance, the headstock is perfect to balance the body out, and the neck has a nice shape, the bass is perect for playing alternative, metal and funk, if your looking to play jazz, swing and blues i would change the strings to fender jazz strings,

Nice Sound

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Raiden Special-4 Electric Bass Guitar:

The Raiden Special is a nice playing bass. Keep in mind that it is a lower priced bass and so it won't play as smoothly as an expensive instrument, but this guy will get the job done. The really neat thing about this bass is the tone. If you find single coils too thin sounding and normal humbuckers too thick and muddy sounding, then you should try this bass out. The tone is a nice compromise between the two. The downside: This bass should have a coil splitter to switch the two pickups into single coil mode. But I feel that any humbucker pickups without that feature is a waist of potential.

Awsome tones!

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Raiden Special-4 Electric Bass Guitar:

I actually got this bass from a Music and Arts retailer. First of all, this bass has a sick finish on the front and back. The feel is great. The tone knob, which when pushed down the p-ups are Humbucking, and when pulled up are Single Coil is really cool and I've found it very useful. For the most part I like the humbucking because it's real heavy, great for playing metal or hard rock. But sometimes it's just too muddy, especially for my school's jazz band I'm in. The tones you can get are great, it can be trebley or warm and muddy with a couple knob turns. The p-ups are really nice, lots of output, especially with the humbucking on. It stays in tune farly well. The only PROBLEMS are with the knobs, some spin easier or harder than others, that might be able to be fixed, (but it hasn't been really annoyed me at all). Also, After a couple of weeks I noticed a little extra feedback. It gets way worse when I have it on Single Coil for some reason. If i stand 4-5 feet away from the amp, it goes away on most amps, but it can be really annoying with a big amp. Hopefully it can be fixed, (but I could deal with it anyways because I like it enough.) If it wasn't for that I'd give this bass 5 stars. I did play it in a store before I bought it, but the setup was great without any changes. It is surely worth the money, if you want a major step up from a begginner or low intermediate level bass, (not stepping up to pro bass like 800-1500 dollars) this is for you.

best bass for the price

By Larry Young

from Monroe, WI

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Raiden Special-4 Electric Bass Guitar:

I did a lot of research before purchasing this bass. I recently sold my high-end Carvin fretless bass because I'm playing mostly guitar these days. I still wanted to have a bass available if the need should ever arise. I wanted decent quality, passive pickups, and a good feeling neck, but wanted to keep it under $400. I got that and more with this bass. Features: 24-fret neck, coil-tappable pickups(!), string-thru-body bridge, no batteries needed. Quality & Reliability: quality seems great for the price I paid. I've only owned a short time so reliability will have to wait, but it does come with a limited lifetime warranty. Look & Feel: it looks great in the black cherry quilted top, the neck was a bit "grabby" at first, but I took some 2000-grit sandpaper to it and now its as slick as can be. Summary: I went to the store looking for this exact bass (based upon my online research). I played it, liked it a lot and bought it. GC priced it less than any online retailer I checked out (they were running a special during Memorial Day weekend). For just a hair over $300, I couldn't be happier! The neck and intonation were right on the money, no adjustments needed at all. Thanks GC!

Good start, fail to finish

By Glenn Weatherspoon

from Arvada, CO

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Raiden Special-4 Electric Bass Guitar:

Pros: Great sound (when it works, see below). Nice looking quilted top. String-through body. Tapped humbuckers provide a good selection of tones. Light weight at 8.7 lbs. Cons: Fret ends need finishing, suitable for cheese grating right out of the box. Electronics are intermittent and crackle/cut out and/or buzz. The "chrome-black" hardware looks like my grandmother's silver: hopelessly and permanently tarnished. Bridge is entry level. Ditto for the tuners. Conclusions: My 2012 Washburn SHB40, which sells at the same price point, is an active bass with 2-band EQ, has beautiful "hot-dog" finished frets and reliable electronics as well as superior inlays. A much better buy, IMHO. If this is truly "Setup in the USA" as Schecter claims, their techs need a refresher course.
