I've been playing electric guitar on and off since the 60's. After selling my previous guitar (a Yamaha Pacifica), I went to Guitar Center and tried about 10 different guitars. My criteria was that I wanted at least 22 frets, I wanted humbucker pickups that had coil tapping so I could get both that "strat" sound and the full Les Paul sound, a whammy/trem bar, and a really playable neck with no buzzing or octave intonation problems. I tried LTD's, Ibanez, Fenders, PRS, BC Rich. Initially, I liked the Paul Reed Smith SE custom ($719), but then I tried the Schecter Hellraiser. The neck on this guitar was perfect. Thin, easy to hold and play. And 24 frets! However, the Hellraiser was around $800 and I had wanted to keep the price around $500. So I ordered the Schecter Omen 6 Extreme FR. It plays great, the neck feels just like the Hellraiser, it has Schecter humbucker pickups with coil tapping, and that amazing Floyd Rose locking whammy bar. I love this guitar. While I usually play rock and roll, I spent a couple of hours today just playing clean chords with no distortion. The sound is amazing on this guitar. Very rich, deep tone. And if you pull up on the tone control, the humbuckers go to single coil pickups and sound much like a strat. I am so impressed by the playability of this guitar. I have used the whammy bar over and over again, and the guitar just refuses to go out of tune. Compared to a regular bridge system, where if you bend notes too hard you have to retune, this stays in tune seemingly no matter how crazy you get with your bends-because the strings are locked at the bridge and locked down at the nut at the head of the guitar. Of course, if you crank up the gain on your amp, this thing will crunch with the best of them, and sustain even at fairly low volumes. The finish on the guitar is impeccable, and stunning, a deep red. Even the tech who replaced my strings for me (I wanted lower gauge strings) complimented the finish on the body of the guitar. I have not found a single problem or complaint with this guitar. It plays better than guitars costing twice as much. Highly recommended, especially for the price.
I own a vintage Gibson guitar and since I have started playing out again after several years, I decided I did not want to take it to the gigs and leave it during the breaks and take a chance on something happening to it. So I decided to look for a replacement in the $400.00 range. I needed it to sound good and look good too. So I took a trip to guitar center and played about 6 guitars in that range. I tried the Schecter and thought the neck was really nice and it was easy to play. The sound was great because with or without effects, I could get lots of different tones and great sustain. Plus, I wanted the trem bar because my Gibson has a Bigsby Shaker bar. But the best part is that after I made my decision to by this guitar, the first time a tried it for our rehearsal, I was so impressed at how much more I could do with this thing then I could even do with my Gibson. So now I am playing it in more songs then before and loving it. We play rock, soul, Motown, British rock and blues, and I can make it fit perfectly into each of these styles. Schecter makes great guitars and this is one of them. Thanks.
My first Schecter at a 15% discount: I love it. Some highlights of why I really like this guitar: ** WEIGHT ** This guitar is lighter than my Epi LP ** VERSATILITY/SOUND ** Both humbucking and coil splitting modes sound good. The sustain is better than my other guitars. ** PRICE ** Slightly less expensive than a MIM or Epi LP, but the playing feel (in my opinion) is better ** LOOKS ** I got the the black cherry, and this baby looks good. I like the guitar shape as well. ** PLAYABILITY ** Right out to the box, the guitar was already in tune and playable. It just has the feel of a fast guitar. The action is slightly higher than I would like, but that can be taken care of later (via a proper setup) I give this a 4 and 1/2 stars because a 5 would imply perfection. I did find a couple of "imperfection" in the back of the guitar and the neck's finish. Not a big deal; this guitar is still a keeper for me. I also don't have much experience with a Floyd Rose and locking nut, and will need to spend some time with this to see how that experience factor into the rating. Given what I found out with this purchase, I would definitely recommend this guitar to beginners and intermediate players. But like everything else, you should try it for yourself before buying it.
Pros:Beautiful Sunburst finish, Outstanding slim neck, Stable Floyd rose bridge and locking nut, extemely versitile neck pickup, awesome Vector inlays, convienient pull-pull circutry, Perfect weight, sweet quilted maple top with binding Cons: Bridge pickup is slightly sloppy and makes finger tapping sound bad, i recommend replacing it. Overall, this is a good guitar for intermidiate players. it plays like a dream and looks awesome too.
I bought this guitar for son's 18th birthday, 5 days before a live gig. The guitar (black cherry finish) is beautiful. My son tuned it in 5 minutes (he is very experienced). He sounded amazing on stage. Of the 6 songs they played, he played 5 with his Schecter and 1 with his Laguna (also purchased from Guitar Center). He and his band, Fresh Forecast, love it!
when i went to buy a guitar , i didn't plan to get this one, i just had in my mind that , i need one Floyd rose with 24 frets.so i start plugging couple of guitars, but when i took this in my hand , i felt something is different , and i just keep playing this one, the neck is rounded so fits hand nicely , excellent finish , intonation was perfect. after purchasing i haven't change the string but still going good, stays in tune perfectly, i couldn't believe this quality guitar with low price!! the pick up is an excellent high output pickup. i did some shows with it, it never lets me down.becomes my good friend. just get this guitar guys , schecter is awsome!! an equal exchange between money and the guitar. worth every penny.
This guitar is the bomb. From my point of view there is nothing bad about it. Looks good and plays good, what more do you want. With all the more expensive guitars you dont get what you pay for usually, but this guitar is great. Its definately worth the cost of it.
Okay the finish was flawless(black cherry). The Diamond Plus 'buckers are pretty hot, I think the neck pickup is a bit treble friendly, i compensated with my boost pedals eq, no issues anymore. I don't use the coil taping but my friend said he liked it, he went to a music school for guitar. This was my first Floyd Rose and I'm still learning but haven't had any issues. The neck is a bit beefy but that is what I like. It's a 5 in my book!
So i went to my local Guitar Center and i picked up this beauty, and the feel of the neck perfect and for what u get with price its awesome. GET THIS GUITAR
