I have only had this guitar for about 3 weeks and I bought it so that I could drop tune it if I want to because my Jackson has a Floyd Rose tremolo which I don't like to mess with as far as changing the tuning. First I would like to say that I did not receive the guitar that is advertised on the GC website as the Omen Extreme 6. The one I received actually has an extra volume pot so that each pickup has its own vol control (which is an awesome feature) and the head stock is painted to match the sunburst on the body of the guitar which I really don't know if I like. I think I would of wanted it to be black because it looks a little cheap but its not terrible. I have to say that I really like this instrument overall. It feels really solid like a tank and it sounds excellent. The finish is outstanding and looks even better than the pictures, so shiny and clean and not a blemish on it. The back of the guitar has a dark stained wood finish which looks really nice. With the 2 volume pots and the tone pot with the push pull single coil splitting this thing can produce a lot of different sounds without even touching my amp to adjust. The blues sounds I get out of this are excellent, I can hear Jimi. The neck is a C shape and is what I would consider thick compared to my Jackson, and I thought I was not going to like it but I like it a lot after playing it quite a bit, not to mention the back of the neck is unfinished which makes my thumb slide along nice and easy. Now for the bad (and its not really that bad)... The 3 way switch seems to be made out of more plastic than metal and feels a bit on the cheap side but only time will tell if it will hold up. The volume pots seem solid but the push/pull coil split tone control feels a little loose like it may not hold up to a lot of use, once again, time will tell. Same goes for the tuners, they seem like they may not hold up overtime and I have noticed that they are not holding tune as well as they should but its possible that the strings that came with the guitar are to blame. I just restrung with a new set of Boomers last night so maybe they will hold tune better than the Ernie Balls that came installed on it. If tuning problems persist I am thinking of buying some locking tuners to go on anyway. Overall, I really like this guitar and if the hardware felt as solid as the guitar itself I would of given this guitar 5 stars. The sound that comes out of it is awesome! For the price, nice guitar.
Folks you just can't get a better guitar at this price range. I just wish people would stop calling this guitar a beginners guitar. Sure it's a gteat first guitar because of the price but it's also a great guitar at the pro level! It's also the first guitar I've ever bought that does NOT need to be set-up. It comes with perfect action and intonation right out of the box. Frets are perfect, pickups are aggressive, sustain is like a Les Paul and it's light in weight. Buy It!
I have a Strat and a Les Paul, this one fits right inbetween, leaning more towards the LP because of the Mahogany body. But, with the coil-tap, you can change the humbuckers into single coil pickups, giving it more of the Strat sound. It appears to be very well build, the finish(Black Cherry Quilt-Maple) is beautiful!!! I recommend this guitar!
This is a good quality guitar. I prefer it for beginner to intermediate musicians. I have had this guitar for over 5 years and nothing has broken and it sounds just as good as the first day I got it. The only sign of wear after five years is that the tuning pegs dont keep the guitar in tune for as long as they should. But overall great guitar. If you are looking for a guitar that sounds great and will last a long time, buy this one.
First of all, I saved up for this guitar for a months and I'm so pleased by what the money got me. I'm in a metal/rock band and we just sound so much better with this guitar. The distortion sounds the best while the clean tone is right up next in line with quality. I have a VOX amp and it just sounds amazing. When you actually get the guitar, it looks so much better than in the picture they give you. I recommend this guitar to any musician with any style of play. Especially metal!!!
